Brazil - Women's Superliga 2021/2022

    Minas' lack of training is definitely showing.. Thaisinha is playing them like a fiddle... They are playing tons of games in advance to be "ready" for the World Championship but without proper training how will they succeed? They are practically giving up the Superliga to finish bottom in WCCh anyway. I watch volleyball because it's fun, but watching Minas lately hasn't been fun, at all

    I never heard anything. I don't think she has many offers, if any, she has been really popular in Brazil for ages but just recently the international community discovered her. And Brazilian setters always have place in Superliga and she's super comfortable in Minas. I don't think she's going anywhere.

    I was waiting for the next round trying to keep this thread organized with the stats, but it'll only end on the 10th and in the meantime we already had 3 games, so I'll post about them and leave it disorganized, the way Superliga intended

    IMHO, Nia Reed is so far the best player of the league, let's see if she will sustain, but for now, she is carrying Bauru, Nyeme played a solid game too, best performance for Adenizia in ages. Drussyla still the weak link, she is not getting there, I don't know, maybe a 1 year break away from volleyball should've been the best choice.


    Minas was a joke last night, I don't like Nicola and this won't change even if he end up winning the trophy. Macris + Gattaz aren't that special anymore, but Pri Daroit + Neriman + Cuttino are dragging Minas down, deeply.

    I didn't even comment, cause I didn't want to seem like a grumpy old man, but since you guys are grumpy too, I'll jump to the bandwagon. ^^

    Yeah, I caught the game from the 4th set on, but from what I've seen... I still find Minas messy as hell and I'm not at all sold into Bauru, though it seems Thaisinha improved their balance. In general, I don't like the level of our clubs... The rosters weren't well built (bla, bla, I always say that... :lol:) and now there's only so much it can be done. I still think that, except for Praia, the best volleyball I've seen this season in Brazil was presented by Barueri in the Paulista semifinals.

    Having said that, the season is long. Hopefully the teams will improve. (But apparently Nicola's decision of keeping Cuttino in the starter team is set in stone. :aww:)

    Since you open up the bottle: I'm not liking this season of Superliga, the level of teams has dropped (thankfully not much as the Male version, which became a ghost of herself), but they look unbalanced. I hope they get better in the second half of the season, because so far, for me, has been really boring to watch.

    I haven’t been able to follow much of Superliga this year, but I am trying to watch some games here and there.


    I have to be honest and say that I am not surprised at all that Minas has been underperforming. Last season the team almost lost the title because Pri Daroit couldn’t receive alongside Megan. And then the team’s solution was to bring Neriman. Basically we had the same structure in reception: Leia, an average receiver (Daroit) and a really bad one (Neriman). On top of that, we kept Cuttino who have had many ups and downs last season.

    Also, I understand what has been said about Gattaz. But to be honest I think she’s playing okay… not as great as in the past, but not bad either. The problem for me is still reception, which has been so poor that Macris became predictable: when she has the chance, she has sets the middles, otherwise they wouldn’t have many other opportunities to attack during the game. Because of that, Thaísa and Gattaz are attacking against two blockers almost every time they get a set.

    Ok, I get that. I didn't really watch last season, pretty much only the playoffs. With Minas' campaign in the regular phase and the comments I heard, I thought Pri Daroit had had a stellar season, and people were hyping her to make the Olympic team. Watching only the playoffs, and specially the finals, I had the impression that the team struggled a lot and that Praia was outplaying them, but then Praia did what Praia does and Minas was able to get their shit together and benefit from their overall superior collective game. I knew Minas had liabilities this season, but I guess I expected Daroit to be a lot better cause I bought into the hype. I also thought Nicola would be smarter with his backup players. Otherwise, I agree with everything you said about the MB's.


    About the others, it seems that SESC is weaker, Osasco is weaker, Bauru is weaker, Barueri should be about the same, but so far it seems to have gone backwards and Praia traded Fernanda Garay for Kasiely and surprisingly just became a lot stronger. Go figure that.

    Having the same roster for several years helps Praia being stronger, but the reality is that the other teams are weaker and that's what's counting the most now. Pri Daroit had probably 1 great season in the beginning of her career in Minas and that's it. She had major injuries and was never able to go back to her former shape. It looks like she was shining last season because of her teammates. Wanting Pri Daroit in Tokyo is just another delusion from Brazilian fans.

    I think Daroit works just fine for Superliga when she doesn’t have to be the specialist in reception. She is a great blocker and overall a balanced OH… but she ain’t no Jaque to play alongside other OH who can barely do a proper bagher, which is the case of both Megan and Neriman.


    And last season Daroit had good performances, but Kasiely played many matches as starter alongside her (and replaced Megan in several occasions as well).
