Brazil - Superliga 2021/2022

  • Adriano is out of tonight's match because... he twisted his ankle... walking down the street...

That might leave him out of the rest of the league entirely lol

It's looking like SESI will close it in 3. If that's the case, Renata needs to pray for Adriano to come back in the last match, cause it seems like there ain't much they can do without him. What a big blow for them! :aww:

  • The fact that Darlan ended the second set with 17/19 (89%) in attack is just wild lol Renata were barely even trying tonight...

ETA: 24/30 (80%) in the end. Wild.

  • I saw only the third set, but Campinas' service game was pretty awful, seeing the stats it seems it looked like that a whole game.

Perhaps Darlan will give us some reasons to revise the opinion that he hasn't improved that much this year if he's able to lead Sesi to SFs with performances like that. Another great game by Leo as well.

Darlan hás só mucho Power. If he controle the error ... Damn what a player.

They were awful and lost without Adriano. Plus their backup setter is very weak and Demian Gonzalez is on quite a big downfall this season, so it was yikes all around..

  • This Kelvi (MB) guy from Minas seems surprisingly good. Everytime he enters the court he does better than Juninho, who's just... weak unfortunately.

  • Both Minas and Natal wearing white uniforms is killing me. How does this even happen jfc

I know! My dad, who's mainly a soccer fan and only have glimpses at volleyball when I'm watching it, commented something "It doesn't matter, cause they're opposite each other, so it's not like you're gonna mix them up". I was all like "Grl, please, what the heck? This ain't no soccer, Goddammit." Someone screwed up big time there. Those are the moments when the Superliga seems like an amateur league. Thank goodness there was no leak during these playoffs.

What I don't understand is what would be the issue with changing the uniforms before the match? Each team has to carry all 2 or 3 options with them at all times anyway, so this is just bizarre.

  • Guarulhos is in the semis for the first time in history! Not convincingly though, but Franco-ball worked and Blumenau once again couldn't figure out a starter and consistent lineup. Also props to Deivid for coming in during the 4th set and choosing violence, he was clutch for their win in the end. I'd be shocked if Minas (even without Vissotto) didn't run over them in the semis though.

  • Pureza is the sweetest! Getting the MVP award and giving a shoutout to his boyfriend and even his therapist lmao

imo he should be in the NT instead of Thales, but...

  • Campinas needs a major overhaul tbh. Evandro needs to retire, Barreto (MB) doesn't belong to a top team, Gonzalez is not the same anymore... how Adriano underperformed in this team after such a spectacular season last year also speaks volumes.

  • We've discussed potential NT-call ups like a week ago and I want to believe that Sesi succeeding that much (3rd place in regular season, semifinals in the playoffs) can influence Renan's choices. I saw only 2/3 of the game because I had awful stream, but besides series of errors from Victor in a 2nd, it was really flawless performance of Sesi, I guess Anderson deserves some credit for this as well. I don't think that Darlan is ready-ready, but he's definitely ready in terms of relation of actual level/potential over every Brazilian OPP but Alan. Leo again highly efficient offensively as well.

It was quite funny to watch this game, because Campinas played like it was a female volleyball, in this sense that they wanted to minimize errors on a service line, and even though they made only 8, Sesi was receiving pretty great, so it wasn't too beneficial to give these easy balls when Sesi played on 65% spike percentage. On the other hand, Sesi made much more errors (18), but the benefits clearly exceeded the amount of points given by unforced errors.

Lucao is way too good for this mess, that's the only negative of this outcome.

I wouldn't be surprised if the entire starting lineup from SESI gets called to at least a wide list lol

But yeah, I think Darlan is ready to at least start getting experience he needs within the adult NT. It's still gonna be a few years until he's more mature and ready to possibly carry the team though.

Also it's a good thing Lucão is moving to Sada. He doesn't deserve to be in a mess like this tbh.

  • Minas won 3-0.

I saw fragments of Sada-Sesi game and it was so interesting, with Sada choking in 2nd set (and a bit in 4th as well), and then Sesi losing tiebreak from 6-1. It would've been really interesting if Sesi had won, perhaps it was this game they should've won if they dream about getting to the finals. I hope in their hall, service game of Sesi will be much more efficient. As big progress as Victor has made after this failure in Vibo Valentia, he's still decent reception away from being international-level player.

  • The finals of the B league between Suzano and Araguari are currently taking place, even though both teams are already qualified for the Superliga next season.

Suzano has a few older a more experienced guys like Riad and Alberto (both MBs) coupled with some young ones like Nathan (OH) and Angellus (OPP), both bronze medalists at the 2019 U21 WCH. Meanwhile, Araguari features a bunch of guys from Sada's youth team with recent history with the youth NTs: Maicon (that 215cm OH), Carlos Henrique (OH), Pietro (MB), Tomasi (L), setters Pedrinho and Ramon and others. What's interesting is that both of these were the setters of the last U19 NT, with Ramon being the starter then, but now Pedrinho's taken his place and if his performance these last few matches are any indication, he's a lock for a starter spot in the U21 NT next year -- he's really good for his age (17)!
