"Let's wait and see if Wait is going to have to carry the weight of the team"

I hope so
She's one of the best coaches in the country (Kirsten Bernthal Booth). She took over the university in like 2002 after they went like 2-23 the season before she arrived (and they were never good prior to that) to one of the top 25 schools in the country now.

she will though. Their setters last year were so poor.
-
I was wondering, hasn't Civita graduated yet? Feels like she's been overseas for quite some time now

Nope. She's finishing graduate school. She'll be done this year.

Aaaah ok, so she's taking the extra time allowed due to the pandemy I guess? I was just going through past italian underage championship, and remembered her playing with Bosio/Mingardi/Angelina, and she was very good back then! I'm glad she at least found a good team. BTW do you know where Cucco is going to play? Feels like the only decent imports from Italy are liberos

That, and injury. I believe she's torn both of her ACL's so she hasn't played a ton. She is really good... I hope she wins Wisconsin's libero spot (but i doubt it, even though I think she's better)
and no... I've been digging for that (cause I'm nosey ) and I couldn't find it... Busto or her agent said it was a top NCAA team.... so I have a feeling im going to be disappointed... they exaggerate who is "the best" sometimes.

Oh, didn't know she had so many issues with injuries, poor girl Clearly among italian liberos on her age group the competition is (very) stiff for the NT, but she could still be a good libero for a middle/high team in A1 I believe.
Cucco is not as good as her imo, I doubt is an actual top team, even though it's hard for me to tell what's the level of NCAA liberos not following much and having so little exports overseas

Actually it's worse than I thought... 3 ACL injuries But one of them was in Italy, before the NCAA. I hope she gets the starting spot for Wisconsin... she didn't last year because she was still rehabbing... it would be shame to transfer and only play DS. I hope she returns to go pro in Italy... but I wonder if the injuries will turn her away from that.
Yea, it is hard to gauge. I tried looking again just now and I couldn't find anything. The agency she is working with (Sportlinx360) seems to have a good awareness of the NCAA... so I have hopes its actually a top team... that would be fun. My biggest pet peeve is when Americans go overseas saying they played for a "top team" when in reality... it wasn't

Speaking of Italian liberos... Chiara Bosetti is using her extra covid-season at American University.

Wait is she actually playing as libero? I know she's even shorter than Lucia, but i remember her only playing as OH over here

She hit for her first college (Polk State College) then she transferred to American, which she hit in a couple matches in 2019, but was mostly DS. In 2020 she was libero every match.

Yeah, I feel like when an italian goes to NCAA is mostly because she's not particularly interested to play pro (or maybe she realizes she wouldn't be getting an actual top spot) and is just a mean to get free education and a new life experience, I remember an interview from Rastelli where she basically said that and that she doesn't think she will go back to play in Italy, and I guess with Chiara is the same. Still think Civita could find a nice spot if she manges to stay injury free

BTW since we're talking about Chiara her parents always said one day they would like to go coach in the USA, I guess one team is going to luck out in the next future with them lol (they're among the best and most winning coaches on youth level in Italy and now they're coaching Vakifbank youth team)

That would be interesting. Finding a team to take a chance on them might be hard. Most of the top teams might not want to do that risk. A lot of the work in the NCAA is recruiting players to join their school.

Oh I guessed having already some international recognition would make it easier for them to get a good team. I mean in Italy on youth team there's also a huge work of scouting/recruiting, even though i guess the whole process it's very different

Yea, most colleges here probably have no idea who they are
Their biggest disadvantage would be they dont know the American youth system... and the school would have to pay for visas/international stuff. But, someone with their success at the youth level could very well try to persuade administrators.

So there's some big drama happening here...
Texas and Oklahoma are all but about officially making a move to the SEC, leaving the Big 12 conference.
Texas, Kentucky, and Florida in one conference

I actually will like that! Better competition for both Texas and Kentucky/ Florida
