S.Korea - 2021-2022 V-League (Women)

  • News Update:

PSB AI Peppers yesterday announced the departure of No.1 CHOI Min-Ji [MB] which was kind of surprising. The thing I am unsure of is if Min-Ji is staying with AI Peppers to become a "power analyst" (statistician??).

Staying with PSB AI Peppers, they have confirmed today that former GS Caltex player KIM Hae-Bin [Li] has joined them and she will be wearing number 19.

  • wtf. I've heard about the crazy working environment of Japan but this one sounds even sadder. Some of their top players deserve to play somewhere. I'm sure Korea's salary cap for imports would still be better for them.

Didn't you say that KYK cut her salary in half because her team lack the budget to pay their players? that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I had to look it up and found that mydaily article and nothing there indicated she had cut her salary in half. But then you went on to post a whole thesis about COREa that was TLDR and missed out on the sarcasm about core Africa.

    So many lies

Do you or do you not understand what a salary cap is? She definitely cut her own salary when she returned to the twins' team. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again also.

  • They didn't say cap. They said cut her salary less than what she's supposed to be paid.

the reality is that there is a cap, and if you pay KYK a certain amount it necessarily implies other players get paid less.

Also for foreigners, the salary is fixed for the first year at around 200k euro

I didn't say anything about KYK cutting her salary. Go back and read.

i quoted the idea about core teams from an Italian coach.

🤦‍♀️ if you're going to call out anyone, atleast make sure the thread you're reading is accurate

The original commenter didn't even say she cur her salary IN HALF. He/she said KYK took a lower amount because there is a salary cap.

You got trigger happy. Anyway, are you sure you read all of the comments? ☺🤤

This is getting OT so feel free to shift this if necessary

Yes it is due to salary cap but just to clarify she didn't "cut" her own salary, and it won't happen again.

Bluntly put, it was just a very nice way of phrasing it in news that she "chose to cut her salary for her juniors". She could've informed PS of her decision to return to Korea much earlier before June, or simply played overseas at full salary and waited till the next season to return.

Every club had already signed their players and "settled on their rosters" well before she decided to return to Korea and join the club after that. There was simply not enough salary cap when she returned and it was either the club renegotiate with their remaining players to lower their pay or cut them so as to accommodate her.

This season, Pink Spiders set her as priority and did not sign any other Free Agents and set aside that amount just to sign KYK if she decided to return. It's a very risky move because if KYK decided to play overseas instead, PS would be significantly weaker than the other clubs considering they under-utilized their salary cap. (700million krw is almost 30% of a club's max salary cap at 2.3billion krw) This happened to them in 2021/22 season.

It won't happen again since next year she will be FA and clubs will actively contact her well in advance and set signing her as priority over their other players.
