2024 Paris Olympic Games

  • 7 matches in 9 days! That’s tough, even though 4 out of 7 are relatively “easy” for the contenders. And surprisingly Japan puts both most difficult opponents on the last two consecutive days for themselves, didn’t they always arrange the schedule that would be most favorable to themselves when they’re the host in the past?

pretty sure host (seeded #1) has to play from lowest ranked to highest ranked. (#8 -> #2)

  • Such rule would always make the host have the toughest schedule, no country will bribe bid to be the host then lol

well in the IOQTs in 2019 China played the lowest Czechs, then the 3rd ranked Germany, then the 2nd ranked Turkey team. pretty sure those are the rules.

  • With African Women’s Champs completed, Kenya has a 27 point advantage over Cameroon for the best ranked African team and the Qualifiers are probably the last place that either team can gain or lose points as they will not be in 2024 VNL

  • I was wondering if teams can take their usual 14p-squad, or is it only 12 because it's for Olympics? (I can't find anything on the FIVB website while using my phone, these links to rosters/schedule also don't work )

I think is 14, after all is 7 games in 9 days.

12 is for Olympics, but this is not volleyball issue, its about olympic village budgets and staffs.

  • Ah thanks! I always wondered why it was 12:lol:

Looking at ECH/Norceca, I think the group of NL will have a lot of competitors who are currently in shape. DR beat USA, NL beat Italy, Ukraine and Czech Republic have also challenged some top teams at ECH, Canada has lots of talent & China and Serbia have the experience of finals to always bring a high level (I have no idea how Mexico NT is currently performing). Also with NL, DR and Canada being 9th-11th on world ranking atm, this will for sure give some tense matches :cheesy: I can't wait to be nervous again all week

Big teams or teams who are sure spot for the OG can drop this olympic qualifier 🤝. I want poland, ND and Japanese to make it.

    Quote

The MVP of the Volleyball Nations League 2022, Paola Egonu will also be back in an Italian uniform during the Olympic Qualifiers. The superstar opposite missed the VNL 2023, but has been back with the team during the European Championship and will be a significant addition to the Europeans.

    💀

  • I don't have one thing clear...

Once the three qualifying rounds are closed, the five remaining Olympic spots will be decided using the FIVB rankings as of June 17, 2024 (after June 16, 2024 when the group stage of the VNL 2024 ends ), giving priority to countries on continents that do not yet have teams qualified for the Olympic tournament: right?

Once the list of 12 participants has been compiled, the draw for the three groups of four teams will be made: for this draw, only the FIVB ranking on 17 June will be taken into account to determine the seedings or there will be a prize criterion for those who is qualified in advance?

If there were no award criterion, all teams would be forced to play the VNL 2024 at full capacity, in order not to lose positions in the ranking and have an unfavorable draw...

So Africa, will have Kenya as its representative as highest ranking team.

for the pools, FIVB can slot hosts into Pool A. The. Pool B, ranking 1, Pool C ranking 2.

So it would look like this

    A B C

    host 1 2

    5 4 3

    6 7 8

    11 10 9

Teams will still have say a 24 player roster list for full year to choose from. Have to choose final 12 before tournament. VNL will be the 24 player roster.

  • I prefer the old system 2 pools of six. Much more fair in playoffs
