2024 Paris Olympic Games

  • So judging by Turkeys training photos Meliha has returned to the squad.

Interesting to see who will be cut if Meliha makes it into the roster…

    If it’s like this:

    Cansu/Elif

    Vargas

    Eda/Zehra/Asli

    Hande/Ebrar/Meliha/Ilkin
    Gizem

There will only be 1 place left for one of Derya, Tugba, Ayca, Simge, Beyza

  • Nice decision. Meliha will be useful. In my opinion her choice means that they will not have to take a libero as a back row sub because she can play his role. So I think that the next player will be Tugba.

Meliha isnt that reliable as receiver. Her attack doesn’t really add anything new. I hope she is only there to please the fans

Really? I always seen her as the best Turkish receiver. Sometime I watch back Tokyo 2020 games and she was really good then. She was also good last season in Fener. My impression is that she was not in Santa conception from the beginning but this year injuries and unstable shape of some receivers forced him to finally call her. I think she can contribute a lot.

In general she’s a good passer, but it’s also not rare to see her shank her passes when she was used as back row sub instead of starter, especially after or close to 20 pts.

But when neither Simge nor Ayca is an excellent passer that can excel the job as back row sub, I’m not against the idea of bringing Meliha instead of them. (I still remember how Simge shanked consecutive passes when she was supposed to come in to stabilize the reception in one of the matches in this VNL lol)

  • I’m surprised that Lorenne is in, hardly remember she was given any chance to play in VNL.

Lorenne didn't get to play the VNL because she had a mild ankle sprain. It wasn't a coaching decision.

She is 100% fit now, though (and probably outperforming Kisy in trainings, considering she was chosen over her).

  • Also Diana is really lucky that Julia Kudiess got injured because Julia would 100% go to Olympics instead

Tbh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. I like Julia's game better personally and her being a natural slider sets her apart from Diana, but their stats after week 1 were pretty much identical and Diana was really good every time we needed her in 2023. They were both very deserving of the spot.

I think we probably would've gone with 4 MBs if Julia was fit.

I mean trusting someone who, yeah has saved Brazil's ass in a few important occasions in the last two years but hasn't played an offcial NT match this season, is bold from ZR, even if she's doing better at trainings against the Brazilian Superliga MVP (for second year in a row I believe and she was the starting OPP in every major competition up until that).

The problem would be what would happen if neither Julia nor AC aren't performing. Trusting Tainara in position 4 (with Rosa as starting OPP) is ballsy given that her passing is bad. And it's not a far-fetched scenario given that AC had a down in performance in the last part of the competition and not sure how reliable Julia is even if she was sort of good against Japan.

  • It's not like Kisy and Daroit has played that much neither, and worst, when they were needed didn't contribute, so I guess is reasonable bring another OPP in a context were this is the most unstable position. Is questionable Lorenne over Kisy, but it's not absurd, and tbh, Lorenne had better moments in NT overall than Kisy, who always has been given the chance in the starting 6 and finished every single competition on bench. Daroit was simple bad during SL and whenever she came in at VNL were a disaster, this cut was expected. With less games at the Olympic competition, Gabi won't see the bench even against Kenya, if needed Julia is there and Ana it's not two time Turkish champion passing with Arina by chance, Tainara or Rosamaria would be the 4th option here.
