2024 Paris Olympic Games

  • What is so funny you're laughing at the people all the time? And do not mislead my comment about VNL Unlike what you think, its totally on point. Not everyone shares your opinion in the world.

I mean it’s not just my opinion. If players cared about VNL that much. Boskovic, Egonu, and others wouldn’t take it off or take lots of weeks off or China wouldn’t send a B team to finals after qualifying…… etc. I was mostly agreeing with you. VNL isn’t important except for lesser teams getting ranking points off top teams sending their B players….

  • Anyone else watching the closing ceremony? Didn't see many players, just some of the Dutchies, beachers Kelly Cheng (USA) & Melissa Humana-Paredes (Canada). I was hoping to see one of the Italian girls be their flag bearer but I'm not sure if they made the show in time - or if they are (still) celebrating elsewhere

    Duda and Ana Patricia were flag bearers from Brazil;

I saw Julia B either. I had the impression of seen De Genaro

It's because it only matters to qualify for the final stage, it is too long and hectic to use all players every week and not affecting the final stage if you qualify, also since it's yearly some teams can choose what year they would like to prioritize VNL, it doesn't mean it's unimportant, last two OG gold medalists have been successful VNL teams as well. People used to say it doesn't mean anything or show anything about the level as well but we have stats showing the opposite, fiercely.

Its FIVBs most promoted tournament ofc it's tournament.

  • This feels like a freak show, am I missing something? Like I might as well be missing the whole point of this but it just feels weird and over the top like whole Olympic organization this year.

I know that wasn’t the topic haha but I had to comment on it since I’m watching this for half an hour and am totally confused.

Tbh my fave part was to see all the flag bearers enter (and try to recognize them), later also the athletes and see them have fun! And obviously the medal ceremony for the marathon :super: after that I kinda zoned out because it's slow, now I'm only waiting for the performance of H.E.R.

Our flag bearers are Femke Bol and Harrie Lavreysen, both with 3 medals :rose: (not Femke almost tripping over some cables and then the news outlet saying she almost missed the last hurdle lol)

  • This was such a good OG if you ask me btw, it was so much fun to watch (I mean the whole event besides volleyball) Paris did a good job and I will miss having so many watches all day 😭

I agree idk what to do anymore. I have one more week before I move into my new school but no work right now until then so the Olympics were filling in the time and now I have nothing to do this week lol. Can we get some post Olympic friendlies or something LOL

i want to point on my comment once again, in VNL participate 16 teams, next year 20, correct me if im wrong. And there are 5-6 Top teams, Olympic Canditaes etc. for them it could not be important maybe, but that`s not the whole world. When Japan could have won this year im sure it would mean very much to them. same goes for Germany, Thailand, Canada, Dominican Rep. etc. Next year for Sweden etc. I believe. So its still important for many.

Plus, it seemed to be really important for Brazil this year, or not? They fought so hard to get Gold in VNL in order to complete their collection.

    I second that.

I will miss those times watching volleyball at work. Of course, it had to be discreet, but I enjoyed how thrilling it was. It wasn't just volleyball; the entire Olympic Games were very interesting and fair. I particularly liked fencing, judo, beach volleyball, tennis, kayaking, and Taekwondo.

Go watch the U20 Euro Women's. Serbia isn't doing well though. It's currently ranked 5th and most likely won't make it to the semis but still. I like watching the U tournaments to see the emerging talent.

  • I'd like to add one thing about today: mad respect to the Americans girls, you don't see very often someone taking a tough loss like the Olympic final with such grace, class and gratefulness like them. Rettke and Plummer hugging Orro and Moki like teddybears, Washington trying to be the life of the party, all that really was a beautiful description of Olympic spirit. Maybe it's silly, but it just made the day even more special for me and probably even harder to cope with the fact that most of these girls won't be in our arenas delighting us with their plays and presence.

thought i was the only one who noticed this! the women's silver medalist took it with so much class compared to the men's silver medalists

  • Lol. It is so irrelevant that Boskovic's dream is to win the CL (besides from gold in OG). Winning a CL, I would argue, is more difficult. At NT you play with what you have whereas at a club level, these team, especially the big ones equipped themselves with the best of the best. Like that VB of 2021, with Rasic, Gabi, Haak, Gunes, MBH, etc. would possibly beat the crap out of any team rn.

Arguably wining CL is much easier. Guideti wouldn't win anything in his life if there is no rematches and second chances.

  • Why do I feel that volleySrb is actually Uzelac undercover. Like she said the exact same things about Italy. Like girl, before bashing teams and believing you're the best, put that time into getting better and improving.

What did she say wrong tbh?
“Italy didn’t play anything special” complitely true, Italy showrd great stability where no other team could sort themsleves together to show up for 2 sets in a row let alone 2 games in a row. Congrats for that, it was very dominant win for Italy and I’m sure she didn’t mean to take anythung away from them, but the former is also very true.

Ofc she is gonna say her team is the best, every athlete thinks that and she was just answering the simple questions for Serbian press. Many things got lost in translation or were intentionally taken out of context by toxic fans just in order to start twitter drama.

She didn’t say anything bad about Italy in interview, quite contrary. She’s a bit cocky sure but all of her recent interviews for Serbian media starting from that Brazilian incident and forward were just badly translated and lost true meaning for sake of starting drama and hate towards her by some toxic fans back in March.

This team is bad, they will not even play in the next WCH. Something go off after 2022, they started with weird choices in the daily bases. This time they did not call 2005 players, only 1 and she never played before. Still cannot figure out what is a goal, but i expect for all staff to be fired after this season in all categories.

  • Technically this isn't true. The whole reason why they weren't playing is because they played club season until the very last day, with both Milano and Conegliano playing in the CL finals. But Velasco was very clear since the beggining that the full squad was going to play since week 2, especially because the ticket for the OG was at stake (not really but they wanted to be is the best position possible ranking wise to qualify).

But one thing he didn't do is play players who were injured. But in the case of Turkey, given that the first week of VNL was there they love to make their stars play. Also the pressure of repeating the same success as last year's could've factored in. But honestly the whole season son the Turkish NT wasn't properly planned. Till this day I wonder why they took Ilkin if the girl was injured most of the time and barely played, when Tugba at least could've been helpful in some rotations.

IMO, I don’t think Turkiye lost because of Ilkin was chosen over Tugba, I doubted it would have made any difference. Whether Fahr and Egonu didn’t played because they played in CL finale or not wasn’t the point. My point was they were given a proper time to regenerate themself. On the other hand, Hande and specially Zehra came in to VNL with health issues. With the enormity of the OG coming up they should have given proper time to get better. I believe the reason the Turkish team failed of getting a medal in OG or VNL this year was because of their success last year, and the reason Italy was so successful and focused this year was because of their failure of last year.
