2022 Women's Volleyball Nations League

  • Am i the only one wishing that VNL has another winner other than USA and Brazil? It's always been between those two ONLY since what... 2006?

we need more excitement in this tournament.

blame china for not bringing the A-team last year

or blame them for beating NED from 2-2 10-14 down in 2017 to keep brazil alive

    idk

  • Or those euro teams that used to think that VNL was some kind of U-tournament... Take it seriously, and you might win it

  • I'm not trying to bait anyone.. it's true tho... Most of them are taking it seriously this time, but that wasn't always the case

I do think Italy might win it all though. Serbia seems to still not play Bosko. Russia is banned, and Turkiye is hosting so it's hard to judge their play. Looked messy at times though.

Not much more competitive european teams that could win VNL.

Bošković asked Santrelli for the rest. She’s had a long long 2 years.

  • The other 33-34y/o Korean players should've done the same instead of retiring completely from the NT

Feel bad for the young players getting pummeled

Do you think KVF is gonna ask them to return for WCH?

but then in my eyes only KYK matters with regards to helping the young players...

Yang Hyojin would be helpful too - imo at least, she was MVP of v-league last season

Pre-Lavarini her center attacks were very effective for Korea, but Lavarini didn't want Korea using the center as much (height? block height? not sure)

KVA might try asking but who knows if they'd accept. KYK's only goal is an Olympic medal and that's in 2024, will she return just to help her juniors in NT since an Olympics medal is (pretty much) definitely out of the picture? I don't know how likely

Setter Lee Hyohee returned to NT multiple times at 38-39y/o to help the NT out when younger setters were injured (AVC, Olympic Qualifiers, etc) even though she was fully retired

  • KYK might have to be a coach earlier than she planned

  • updated:

So Canada and Japan had the easiest schedules, which can explain their overachievement in the ranking.

Moreover Both Bulgaria and Belgium could have a shot to be in top 8 instead of being in the bottom of table if they would have played against Korea. This shows that not playing every team really creates injustice 🤦

I'm wishing Brazil wins this as they haven't won VNL. And their new cycle players are all good. Esp. Lorrayna, Kisy, Julia K, Julia B, Ana Cristina. It's like 2004-2005 again where Sheilla, Mari, Paula, Fabiana, Thaisa all made the NT.

but they have won the previous edition many times. It's time others get a chance. Really hope anyone will win it other than those two

  • I want diversity as well but other teams need to step up their games, I wouldn't want to see a new champion just because USA or Brazil had a bad day. Based on what I have seen during the group stages, USA has a lot of depth, they can come up with maybe 3 different teams that would play for the gold. The problem here, however, will be they have played with different starting players almost every game and we'll see who are going to be the main starting players during the finals and if they'll be able to perform on top level every day. We also haven't seen many chances when they needed, they stuck with their teams and wanted them to solve their issues, which is good from a perspective. Brazil had their not so great performances but I believe they'll be better during the finals. As for Italy, it'll depend on whether they'll play with Malinov or Orro. Although Orro is not a top level setter or anything special, she is better than Malinov for sure. Pietrini is coming back from an injury so I am not sure if she'll be used. I believe they have some injuries or covid related issues on OH position and haven't found their best line up yet. As for MB, I feel like they should have experimented more.

As I have stated above, I am down with diversity but I also have to state that there have been great matches and finals in the previous editions. USA vs Brazil in 2019, Turkey vs USA in 2018, Brazil vs Italy in 2017, and Brazil vs USA in 2016 were great finals. And USA playing with main squad in the group stages only to bring their reserves in 2010-2012 editions and still end up as champions was pretty fun.
