Japan Women's NT 2022

  • No one's talking about Yamanaka? she's vigilant not to mention fast, even better than Hammy. I didn't care for her or knew anything about her til AVC.

I'm all over Yamanaka. One of my Uni faves. She started the AVC almost invisible but has bloomed pretty well. I think by virtue of playing time

I finally got to watch the SF VIE match and she started Set 2 with two blocks, a kill, and then an ace. The first 4 outta 5 points of the set. I watched it on a repeat loop for a while :rose:

I wasn't able to catch their earlier matches the ones that started in the morning.

Aside from being quick, she stands out for her energy too like she really enjoys being there which to me is already a winning factor. I'm sure she'll do well at Ageo.

she is one of those “up with people” people, which is great but may hold her back. Sweet middle blockers don’t get far. It’s going to be tough for her with Saitama. I think Jaja and Kyōko are better than her at this point, but Kyōko is getting on in years

  • No but honestly why would they give it to Shibata. Nishikawa deserves that award

Never know if they give the award strictly for the Final (and Bronze) or look at the whole Tournament. Nishikawa certainly deserved it overall but she got Nanami Hirose'd in the 3rd set and never came back. Shibata also got sat down, tho, and didn't play the 4th set, so who knows

  • Nice for Japan to win the AVC Cup in their Swan Song (their only win in the history of the tournament).

The AVC Cup will be for Non-VNL teams to qualify for the FIVB Challengers Cup starting next year, or something like that, so this was Japan's last appearance

According to regulation, Best 6 must be selected from Top 4 teams and MVP must be from the champion.

    Quote

The individual awards shall include: one Most Valuable Player, two Best Outside Spikers, two Best Middle Blockers, one Best Opposite, one Best Setter and one Best Libero. All individual awards shall be chosen within the top 4 teams and awarded by the criteria of the VIS statistical data, with a final decision to be made by the AVC Control Committee. And the MVP may be selected from the winner of the championship. The individual awards must be prepared by the Organizer.

Kinda figured that, but what I'm unclear about is when they choose an MVP from the Champion Team, if they just look at their performance in the Final Match or if they look at their performance over the course of the Tournament

Some times, like when Mayu Ishikawa stole the MVP from YOLO in the 2019 U20 WCh, it was simply based on high scorer of the Final Match. I call

  • In honor of Mizuki Tanaka I post this video of the All Japan High School Championship 2013/14 between Kyushu Bunka (Tanaka) and Higashi (LoveBunny & the Starlets):

Tanaka was MVP and best OH and gave one of the most beastly performances in a HS Championship of the modern era, mostly from the back row

    Set 5

Tanaka is #6 in the dark uniform. Scroll to 14 or 15 minutes in if you are in a hurry

  • Shouldn't they be going to France first? for a friendly match

  • TBS headline says Hayashi is Manabe's fave as she should be

"Hayashi is the one hiding behind the two aces. A good defender, and also a good player popular with the general public. Everyone please pay attention to Hayashi" - Manabe

In a survey of the players before the World Volleyball Tournament, more than half of them selected Hayashi as their favorite player in Manabe Japan, showing that she has the trust of her teammates. Koga said of Hayashi, "She is the best in Japan, both in terms of play and visuals! Koga said of Hayashi. Libero Manami Kojima also commented, "She really is a craftsman! She always delivers a high performance, and that's just too good."

  • By 2 aces does that mean Koga and Inoue? What do they mean by visuals?

I don't think Hayashi is popular (yet) but I'm glad people noticed that she was the one saving Japan's ass with Koga while Manabe basically left her out during the VNL QF match with Brazil.

  • this sounds like an interesting event. Aren't the OG test tournaments usually held a year before instead of 2 years before though?

France Women's team is not qualified for the World Championship and the VNL so probably they wanted the opportunity to train their team also. Here's the event poster on their website: FFVolley
