Japan Women's NT 2022

  • I get the frustration but on the other hand they did really well coming into this tournament. Even though I for one doubted them after the match with China but eventually they proved everyone wrong.

I still think the liberos could be better, neither did it for me personally. Manabe wants to make Uchiseto happen so bad but she's just not it. Sato was also terrible all through out. They should also rethink Airi's role and maybe amplify it.

Next stage for Koga should be an overseas experience.

I expected more from Koga in this match though but didn't happen.

I was wondering why Koga can't go abroad. Acharaporn and Chachu on are on their wnd year in Turkey so why not her.

  • Koga going abroad is a huge risk (culturally) and some players are not willing to do it and fail. What if I make a mistake speaking? Will it hurt me with the national team.

under the last manager, it basically killed players national team careers. Manabe will probably encourage players to go abroad, but teams need add interpreters for the players because their English/other language skills to get them up to speed. Plus what will the players want to be paid? For teams in Italy, Poland the amount of money needed may not be worth it if they are near the mid to bottom of the table.

  • I believe it was announced the AVC Cup will be annual for NON-VNL teams. I remember thinking Japan's first ever victory had a bittersweet quality in that it would also be their last ... unless they get booted from VNL. I could be wrong

dude they're not gonna boot Japan from VNL lol

Pretty sure they will be better paid in EU than the JVL league?

  • Because foreign players don't have Japan contracts? I've read somewhere that the Japanese players are like employees. some of them even have office loads off game.

This requires more detailed explanation from some senior V-league fans but it's true that some local player are like employees of the big companies. Their salary and treatment is not like the foreign player. I do remember when some player retire from volleyball, they just work in that big companies - their title sponsers.

  • Watching the first couple sets I missed yesterday and I hear Clayton Lucas say Satomi Fukudome is the best libero in the tournament. That's all that matters :S

  • The following video is the ending video from TBS for the tournament. It is normal for TBS to do this to show the individual players and big moments for each of them, while going through the tournament. Erika Araki posted this link on her Instagram page.

also it will tie into the Tsunagi Kizuna song, also common for this type of montages with TBS.

you must have a Japanese VPN to see it.

  • I still can't get over the fact that JPN lost after leading 2 sets to nil ;(. Yet, love how Yamada got 7 kill blocks in front of anyone but Carol. Unable to remember when was the last time a JPN MB dominated that much on the net :flower:.

It's about time Japan got in on the MB action. A lot of teams no ...most teams have strong middles that everyone are well aware of. In Japan the only middle with clout is Araki. It's game on for Yamada (and Shimamura)

  • Japan announced today that they will aim to host the men's and women's world championship 2026. For the first time might be a 32 team in the competition.

Kawai said "We aim to hold both men and women in 2026." He also considering co-organizing events with the Philippines and China.

Kawai aims to host WCH2026 both men and women

WCH 2026 in Japan? It will be 32 teams!

  • imagine China and Japan co-hosting the women's world championship

You will get teams like Thailand, Korea, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Philippines fighting for the four AVC spots.

  • Still wondering why Japan don't block like this when matching up against taller teams.

Gabi is as tall as Koga, Inoue, Kurogo, and Ishii (180 cm).

Carol has around the same height as Shimamura and Yamada.

blocking is the least predictable scoring thing in volleyball, just due to the timing of the jump and the contact of the hands.

Opposing Players are hitting over their hands.

Japan tries to deflect balls to use for offense due to the middle and outsides height disadvantage.

Japan probably gets a ton of balls hitting off their block in matches or they are stuck 1-on-1 on the pins.

  • I don't see he mentioned China in that articl. Did I miss anything?
