Haleigh was talking about how young Americans get slotted into one position (in her case being a middle) and aren’t taught the basics of the game (defense/serving/setting) because a “middle doesn’t do that” (American volleyball has more subs than intl volleyball so they sub them out to serve)
it goes back to increasing participation and stuff to earn more money for clubs (if there’s more subs, there’s more participants, more money)
we’ll see a problem with American setters cause they’re all playing a two setter system in their youth teams (heck even Plummer used to be a setter) -

Karch' found his new Murphy's in Washington and Poulter. No matter how unimpressive they've been since post OG he just cant take them out of his lineup.

watching the match yesterday after it had finished (work commitments)
never seen so many off the block shots between two teams
outside of Kelsey’s run in the third set, USA outsides didn’t do much.
the double switches did not do much either.
USA serve errors always seemed to be at the wrong time. Targeted Busa, but should have really aimed at Loso/Brankica.
defense had many chances to dig balls but couldn’t, Poulter with 7 misses on 14 attempts.
chiaka did better than Washington in the middle, but seemed to be behind Stevanovic and Popovic. Popovic played well in Tokyo 2021, and was what they needed in set 4.
I would say that this team is decent but not great, but needs something more in a number of spots. Not saying the USA does not have depth, it does, but it was going to be first year of a generation switch. Backups previously are now starting and new players entering the group. -
poulter was off yesterday and so the middles

I think Poulter made the middles off. Setting them in very strange moments ESPECIALLY in the first set. Setting ogbogu low and tight into a double block. Outside of that, I thought the middles did fine. The pins outside of Kelsey struggled
