China NT 2022

  • Chinese coaches need to develop their younger players with more proper skills

and athleticism and not focus on just height.

The likes of Carol and Gabi are the best examples!
Even though WYL performed better during this tournament it does not change the fact that her spiking actions are faulty and it does not matter how much weight she loses, there will not be much improvement in her!!
Of the younger brigade, I like Zhuang YS, she’s has a good spiking action, is aggressive and has an attitude!!! One to bring on for the future but alas she’s only 183 cm, and as my good friend and volleyball teammate, Julian Chow say, she’ll won’t get a look in!!

I also like Zhuang Yushan. She's got a fighting spirit which is nice to see in a young player.

She may not be popular like Wu Mengjie, but she's got the same potential not to mention has not had any serious injury problems. It concerns me that Wu Mengjie for such a young player is already in a knee brace similar to Zhang. And with China's overworking players she might have a short career if her injury isn't well taken care of.

  • I doubt ZCN will ever be a TOP player again.. looks like her leg injury in 2018 really affected her vertical. 😢 I also like Zhuang and Wang YF. I would love to see them playing in the A-Team… fighting spirit is as much important as strong spikes and good reception 👍🏻

  • Let's hope some individual or some collective team who supervise sports incl. volleyball will look into the issues comprehensively and urgently.., seeking inputs as necessary to improve the situation, making changes as necessary that will benefit the team and volleyball sustainable development, if not this cycle then the next one, from the early stage like talent scouting to club to potential player management to the NT coaching team and the NT player recruitment, and to learn the world competitiveness at the highest level. Perhaps a younger and better head coach. Brazil and Serbia are good references on how quickly they orbit their new players into the NT, in particular Brazil is quite impressive. It's unthinkable that in a popular branch with high prestige like the women's volleyball China can't identify young and suitable new players to grow. It is more a matter of focus incl. perhaps the funding. If needed just switch some portion of funding from football and basketball industries to volleyball. In short China needs some sort of Liu Guoliang and his solid coaching team in volleyball. Just need some top guy (having the necessary authority) with knowledge to this sport to improve the overall ecosystem, from A to Z. For years China relied much on Lang and Zhu et al, now after Lang not in position,.. and Zhu and Zhang are out due to injury... many issues are coming to the team started from the total failure in the Tokyo OG! Aside from the Top-4 the team is still competitive, but just not good enough to compete at the topmost level. Let's hope it's a transitory issue and the ecosystem will improve itself. Let's see.

She was pretty good in 2019. Granted its much easier to play when Zhu is your other outside hitter.

  • I think lots of Chinese fans hate Cai Bin because first overusing injured player (GXY), bringing substitute players and hardly letting them play and not choosing younger promising players instead chose matured (older) ones. The Chinese fans are concerned and aware that it is not ok to overuse injured players causing irreparable damage to their health or career ending injuries. They have seen lots of good players prematurely retire because of injuries that were not taken care early / immediately.

Another reason why Gong should have the CVL season off since she wasn't allowed to rest during WCH.

Next season we might have Zhu back, but if Gong doesn't get the recovery she needs and plays through injury again then we might not have her at all which also changes the dynamic of the team since she has no real substitute.

Jiangsu should use Zhou Yetong or Xu Luyao while Gong rests.

  • Zhu Ting says a few words at the end (?) of the final game against Firenze (I think) in the Scandicci City Trophy Tournament. I’m veryyyyy new to the Italian league so please correct me if I’m wrong! I THINK this is a pre-season game.

Lovely to see Zhu make an appearance, she says, “First, I’m very happy [to be here], after being here I think everyone’s been very warm, the players as well as the administrative staff have been very helpful. I am also hoping that I will be able to return to peak performance.”

Incredibly excited to see her first press conference very soon!

  • Finally got around to watching the QFs against Italy (3rd set only, because-)

I seriously missed Ding Xia's fun and animated moves and celebrations on the court :drink:
