Eurovolley 2023

  • Do you guys think VNL or EuroVolley is more prestigious? I personally think VNL is more prestigious but in Wikipedia of some teams, in the honour section EuroVolley is shown before VNL🤔

VNL should be more important in theory and is pushed bt FIVB but Eurovolley is more prestigious

  • for european teams of course eurovolley is more important since majority of the top teams are from EU. I have to say they're the most competitive federation. Asian and the Americas only have two teams dominating the enitre thing.

I would love to see VNL topping Eurovolley someday. It would mean that other countries stepped up.

Definitely VNL! I said it before ECh as well and people thought it was because Turkey won gold medal in VNL. Now Turkey won also ECh gold so there is no reason for me to be biased. 3 arguments:

    1. VNL gives more world ranking points:

It doesn't matter some people like it or not, at the end of the day world rankings count and vnl games have big impact on world ranking, which directly effecting a team's chance to qualify to Olympics or not

    2. Stronger teams attend to VNL:

ECh was a joke this year with 24 teams. 80% of participating teams are weak. Competition till semi Finals were pointless with the exception of poland-turkey game in quarters. On the other hand, VNL has all these top teams of ECH + USA, BRA, CHN, JPN, DOM, CAN, THA with their strongest roster more or less. Some VNL teams missed a few key players but even those teams put most of their A players on court for 1-2 weeks (for example Italy had half of their starting 7 players from ech also played in VNL with most of back up players too.

    3. VNL is a long-running tournament. It requires a good bench to be able to rotate during several weeks to keep every players rested but also in shape. Ech lasts way less and top teams can rest their starters literally till semifinals and still win the tournament.

All in all, vnl is way more important tournament than ECh. Although ech seems to be older historically, VNL basically is successor of world grand prix with a new make-up. Some eurocentric users here might have emotional attachment to ech but at the end of the day it is still a regional championship unlike vnl that's a worldwide competition

  • Total nonsense and from the next Olympic circle VNL will mean even less.

Top 3 team in ECH will be qualified for WCH, so 5 continental competition this is 15 spots, rest teams that need rankings to enter WCH dont even play VNL.

Also winners of continental champs(and ECH is one of them) going to Olympics(5 spots plus host=6), after that TOP3 teams form WCH that not qualified yet will also have Olympic tickets. So all important teams will have their tickets.

Winner of VNL dont have anything besides money, so this is just commercial competition.

Also most of teams can go 6-6 in VNL and after that just recycle ranking points in ECH or WCH and stay in top 10 or even 5 if we talk of top teams.

  • VNL is heavily promoted by FIVB, so for sure it's more beneficial to play well there from some 'global' perspective.

But that doesn't mean being 'prestigious'.

European Championship is easily more prestigious, I don't think that I've seen teams playing with their B rosters at the ECH and with their A-level rosters in VNL, while in reverse it happens all the time (e.g. Italy this year or Serbia playing without Boskovic for majority of VNL).

VNL is easily more prestigious than other continental championships though.

  • Everyone have their own POV. And for me European Champs lost it's prestige in a few years back.

When there were times when Euro champion was promoted to play in World Cup, it had some meaning. In that unfair Olympic qualification system all European teams had to fight for their chance. Now it's better to play good in more pointed tournament. So points wins at VNL are much more important.

But I think that Euro 2026 can take back it's prestige as the Champion will qualify to the OG. So there will be a lot of interesting fight.

  • Historically it is ECH, no doubt.

But right now, with all the effort FIVB put on the tournament, it's VNL.

Next year, with the fact that the VNL will be fundamental for the FIVB ranking in terms of qualification and Olympic draws, it will be a truly important tournament, which some Top Teams will have to play in a very strong manner...

Ohh yes! Next season of VNL will be like WCH:rolll: Each team will foght for important ranking points:box: it will be so excited:cheesy:

  • Cansu made the dream team ? Lmfao what a stupid system. She was the fourth best setter who played in the final….

  • The fans selected

    S: Cansu

    O: Vargas

    OH: Ebrar-Stysiak

    MB: Zehra-Lubian

    L: Gizem

Kudos to Cev for making the most senseless pools of voting. As usual :read:

In my head it would have looked sth like

    S: Van Aalen

    O: Bosko

    OH: Ebrar-Nika

MB: Zehra-Baijens (but I wouldn't object to Eda or Lohuis in it)

    L: Gizem

    (And Vargas MVP ofc)

  • So not a single representative from the bronze or silver team? And they gave best outside to a player who played opposite the whole tournament and was horrible in the qf? If we are just disregarding positions completely then why didn’t Boskovic get best outside hitter lmfaoo I have to laugh. It’s funny that if the match was 2 points different in the 5th that entire team would be completely different lol

  • Cev literally made the OH1 pool with Stysiak, Cazaute, Mljenkova and Ungureanu...

And OH2 with Ebrar, Stigrot, Milenko and Sylla.

They put Wolosz instread of Van Aalen for setters and the only dutch selectable was Baijens. I blame it on Cev rather than fans...

Busa not even being an option is so stupid

Obviously the names of Stysiak (incomprehensible) and Lubian (WTF!) came up because in their group there was no Turkish athlete to vote for...

  • Ebrar, my baby.
