Boring first round so far at German DVV Cup (as expected), the first five matches all ended in three sets for the favorite team, Dresden in Oythe (2. North), Stuttgart at home against Neuwied, Potsdam in Vilsbiburg, Erfurt at home against Straubing and Suhl at home against Münster. Let's wait for the quarterfinals draw, because last three matches are second league teams hosting first league teams...

Again so many players missing in almost all teams
Before the pandemic it also happened that sometimes players missed matches, but I don't remember it ever being as extreme as right now. Neuwied with just 8 players today, Vilsbiburg brought 4 players from their 2nd team to fill up the roster.

Interesting matches in the quarterfinals.
Considering how the teams have performed for now Schwerin, Stuttgart, Potsdam and Aachen should make it.
But it will be interesting to see how Suhl will do against Stuttgart.

Stuttgart won (too) easily the league match against Suhl, managing to keep them out of the match all the time. I don't expect it being so easy again, but still Stuttgart to win. Erfurt has good chances against Aachen IMHO, Aachen is playing really bad so far most of the time.

Suhl's president said in a TV interview that they are scouting the market in Europe, but also are looking at NCAA for a new backup OPP, so maybe they'll wait until NCAA season is over to make a transfer. I don't think they can afford Dambrink unless she accepts a quite low salary. OTOH I also have a hard time believing Dambrink could go to Vilsbiburg because I think they want to use Arbos as receiving OPP in order to free Thompson from reception duties as an alternative to the normal system with Segovia as OPP. It worked very well in the first match of the season vs Wiesbaden...

Short clip from TV news
On Saturday we'll have Stuttgart vs Schwerin as TV match. Schwerin wants to compete for titles this season, so this match might give us a first idea about how realistic this could be.
-
Stream (free but with registration) for Stuttgart-Schwerin, today 18.00 CET.
Josepha Bock is now playing in 2nd league for BBSC Berlin. I'm glad she didn't completely retire, but I really wonder if no team from 1st league made her an offer (which is hard to imagine considering e.g. Münster's MB situation) or if she didn't want to play professionally anymore.
-
Schwerin without Pogany and White (both sick). Stuttgart starting with Segura instead of Künzler today...hoping for an interesting match
-
-
First 2 sets Schwerin performed on a good level! I think with Pogany and White they atleast would have won 1 set...
Stuttgart looks messy a lot of times, because their ball control in defense is pretty bad. Luckily for them, they have good out of system hitters.

Rene Sain suffers from mononucleosis, so she'll be out for a while. I guess for the time being Wiesbaden will continue with Guilliams as libero, it worked well in the last two matches.
