China NT 2023

  • You mean Asia has 2 spots even no Asian team gets in the OQT? Still 2 spots if either Japan or China qualifies directly in OQT and there is still 1 spot for Asia from world rankings?

The five remaining spots will be based on WR. But one spot will be allotted to the African team with the highest WR (i.e. Kenya) to safeguard Olympic motto, since no African team made it through the OQT. If the hearsay about the Russian team has some foundation then just three remaining spots based on WR. Believe the Chinese squad will still make it under the worst case scenario in this OQT. Japan too.

  • The defeat against CAN is truly a defeat, just no excuse, this is OQT, not the grand training tournament VNL! Since the London OG defeat in QF to JPN, this loss against a CAN team is the worst defeat to date, to my knowledge. Just correct me if I'm wrong.

The head coach had the most blame! WYL should not be played, she simply does not have the quality/capability/competency to face any serious team beyond the Asian Continent. Regardless all her efforts and hard works, sorry to say, forcing herself to play at the NT A facing strong European & American squads (yesterday CAN happened to place itself under this category, overall played well, thus it won) will just create sorrow and depressing situations, for all stakeholders incl. fans as well as her own self. It hurts so much to watch the main team be defeated by CAN, not a historically strong team with strong volleyball tradition. And resouces-wise the Chinese should have not lost on CAN, just put the right resources in the game!

One silly case the coach pull out Ding Xia at the last min (set 3) then DLY set to LYY at middle back row instead of WMJ at #4... a fateful choice. If Ding Xia, who already helped to turn the table remained there, she might have set the decisive ball to WMJ.

It's obvious that in facing an opponent that play well in overall, there can't be any weak element in the team, moreover a weak OH, the team will suffer the bad consequences. Watching WYL hit repeatedly just to be slowed down by the blocks were really painful... it's very obvious that WYL didn't possess the needed ingredient (whatever it was -- technical, physical, etc) to help the team.... she would merely pull down the team with her! A coach who was not able to identify this problem and made timely adjustment would bear the price!

Nothing personal here, but WYL just does not belong to the NT A, esp. when the team is facing strong teams outside Asian rivals! She is not a real NT A material!!! I hope all stakeholders learn the bitter lessons. Otherwise there's no good prospect for the team. Competitions are very tough, many teams are growing fast, to live or to die -- to remain competitive or be a grand loser -- there is no leniency here, life incl. competitive sport is very real and very harsh, very rough, and could be quite cruel!!

  • Turkey 2021 was worse. I bet cai will even start WYL again today.

  • WMJ replacing WYL ? I will believe it only when I see it in the OQs. Iirc, under CB, WYL has always been in the starting lineup... with WYL there are up and down moments, more down than up. CB is slow in replacing WYL when things aren’t going right. For instance, when the team trails 8 or 10 points he’ll send Wang Yizhu in (VNL 2022) or Zhong Hui (VNL 2023) ... and when the team has fallen that much behind there is “scoreboard pressure” on the incoming player. WYL has been listed as having a touch height of 312cm. I find that hard to believe. One of the shocking results in this year’s VNL was a five set loss to DR, where their left handed OP Gonzalez scored more than 30 points. And who is standing across the net from her ? and btw DR is in the same OQ pool as us, I believe. WYL does have some strong points, she can serve well under pressure, so why not just let her do that ? if CB insist on keeping her in the team :/

A week ago I posted the above... now let’s see what happened in set 4. We were leading 21-13, WYL started to make all sorts of mistakes.... What did CB do? Nothing ! until Ned chased up to 22-19 I think, then he replaces WYL with Wu MJ. Wu is touching the ball the first time in the game and needed to settle down, 2 or 3 points were lost, and with it the set.

CB is simply the worst coach we have in the history of volleyball in China ! At least Gong, Yuan and Ding were Olympic champions, it’s looking like Wu MJ, Zhuang YS, Zhou Yetong and other deserving players wouldn’t even get a chance to play, all because CVA made a bad decision hiring CB.

Naw he's the worst coach in human history. He plays the same group of players every time, benches the rest, make some random double subs, and throw in a serve sub that is not even known for serving, and call it a day. If the players aren't playing well, it's game over as he has not shown any capability to turn important matches around. I think he just sucks at developing younger prospects so he won't select any of them or give them any playing time if selected. As an example, he chose Wang Weiyi, the worst libero by far, over his own club player Ni Feifan. I think he has a knack for choosing the worst of everything. Anyway just hope the higher ranking teams above China qualify because I don't think China can win the remaining 2 matches after this blunder.

  • Honestly, WYL was good today. But she can’t be the main player though can be a reserve over ZH. Also maybe it was fate / destiny. If the Dutch team wins again, then 🇨🇳 won’t get the ticket from OQT? I think CB can let LYY rest as well as GXY as there is no point of letting these two crucially players get hurt and exhausted.

No, our fate is in our own hands, as long as we beat DR and SRB.

Not that we are going to, the morning match was pretty high-level, but theoretically there is a chance.

  • Cai Bin is an absolute embarrassment! How can the Chinese team who’s been playing well enough to lead by 21-14 lose the third set?
Absolutely unnecessary substitutions at the wrong time destroying the rhythm and confidence of the team!

We have been screaming for Wyl to be substituted but WHY substitute her when she’s going to serve??? She has one of the most effective service in the team!!
Why make that double substitution when they’re leading 24-22???

They should never have lost that third set!!
All his poor coaching is exposed in front of a full panel of current chinese coaches from all over China!!!!
He should just resign now and save further embarrassment!!

Those 2 matches (against Canada and Netherlands) they had chances to win these matches and unexpectedly/ unexplainable they couldn’t win. There are times we cannot have total control of the outcome. I do believe there are unforeseen forces at work. The 2016 Olympics, 🇨🇳🏐WNT wasn’t doing well in the early on, but ended as the champion.
