Eurovolley 2023 (men)

  • Congratulations to Poland, a nearly perfect machine right now. Powerful hitters, tidy and smart setting, amazing focus on fundamentals, they have everything to win in Paris too next year.

Looking at us, it's not nice to lose a final at home being swept, but sometimes this is how things go. I still believe this team has a great potential and with some more work we can be in the mix too.

  • This is by no mean a comparison to the Generazione di fenomeni, but the path this group has taken is disturbingly similar: European title in 1989/2021, World Championship in 1990/2022, continental runners-up in 1991/2023. Should I be worried for the Olympics? :sos:

italians will cry hard to see another cuban as mvp lol.

Why? Maybe Janusz and to some extent Huber would have been a more deserving choice, but León was good.

  • Just take a look at the stats. Italy had a little bit better reception, but Janusz played 20 balls to the middles (Italy just 9). Not to mention Janusz had to set almost the whole match from pos. 6. And he was amazing: not just the quality of the sets, but also the tachtical choices. I repeat myself: this guy is the most underrated setter of this era of volleyball.

  • they were so nasty in the comments on social media after italy-turkey game and they lynched vargas(always calling her cuban) and ebrar.

About the game, I still don't get it how Gianelli got outplayed by Janusz.

Oh, please! It's just a few users - not even italians - ruining the atmosphere on the forum and few idiots on the social media.

I don't recall if you're the same user, but as I said in other occasions you guys really pay too much attention to social media and give importance to people whom just want to start a beef.

About Giannelli, part of the explanation was given by VBdiamond: while passing was generally bad, Janusz was able to set better and smarter, involving the MB much more. On the other hand, we rarely had the opportunity to involve either Galassi or Russo and even though we still managed to attack at 55% with a mediocre 33% positive reception, we struggled to find effective solutions to get out of some difficult rotations.

Poland served way better than us too: the errors were basically the same, but we got aced 11 times.

  • congratulations to Poland, good job guys!

Leon got MVP, do you know anything about other individual awards?

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • Ok, hope that we won't have any weird choices then

  • If I was Sbertoli I will seriously thinking to leave from NT. He is a really high level setter and matches like this yesterday show that his only chance to play is if Gianelli got injured . This is very derogatory for a player like him.

    and do what?

  • individual awards' voting has ended, so we have following results

    S: Janusz

    OPP: Kaczmarek

    OH: Leon, Lavia

    MB: Huber, Bülbül

    L: Zatorski

Yes, Janusz was pretty solid these two seasons. He's better than Fabian for sure. Janusz has some amazing soft touch while passing tough balls, which makes it easy for wing spikers.
