Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2023/24

  • That would be nice, but there are reasons (on both sides) to doubt it will happen. The Chinese season is short but intense and, let's be honest, lucrative. Scholten doesn't need to play the end of the German season and may prefer not to. And Münster are very, very happy with Mutiri, and after such an expensive prior season due to all the injuries, they may well have other uses for the money.

She's actually looking for a club to spend the rest of the season. No clubs are mentioned but of course it could be somewhere in Germany

  • It looks like Meghan Bathel is looking for a better club again. Hopefully she finds one. Although I currently have no problem with her helping the Neuseenland Volleys get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, her performance level is of course far too high for the league, which means that she is not being challenged.

  • Considering that Schwerin still hasn't signed another OH despite getting a very good libero and buying a decent OPP out of her contract in the meantime, my guess is that they already have an agreement with Romy Jatzko to join them once Chinese league is over.

There are rumors that Romy Jatzko is going to Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri.

I think that wouldn't be good for her, she'd be 4th OH there and due to foreign player limit wouldn't get to play much. Chieri has to bench one of Weitzel/Zakchaoui in order to play with both Kingdon and Skinner, but they won't bench a foreign middle for Jatzko when they have a good Italian option with Omoruyi. Schwerin is in desperate need of a serious alternative to Marring and Emonts and they couldn't get anyone who became free in the last weeks :white:

As expected, Vilsbiburg's Anna Spanou tore her ACL last weekend vs Dresden ;( So Vilsbiburg also very urgently needs another OH because Vazquez also isn't fit and Lopez won't do as starter.

Ah, I am unsure if you might be missing a fact. Romy would replace Valeria Papa with Chieri, who will probably go to the PVF.

  • The European week was quite successful for the German teams, even if they were hoping for a "higher" result in two games, at least from a German perspective. The German teams were able to achieve the following results:

    Champions League

    • Allianz MTV Stuttgart vs. PGE Rysice Rzeszów 3:2 (21:25, 20:25, 25:19, 25:14, 15:9)
    • SC Potsdam vs. Grot Budowlani Łódź 3:1 (20:25, 25:16, 26:24, 25:18)

    CEV Cup

    • Viteos Neuchâtel UC vs. Dresdner SC 2:3 (25:21, 20:25, 25:18, 18:25, 11:15)

    Challenge Cup

    • AC PAOK Thessaloniki vs. VC Wiesbaden 0:3 (18:25, 22:25, 14:25)

Because the last matchday of the group stage of the Champions League is coming up next week, it will certainly be interesting for those who are not particularly concerned with the Champions League to see what the German teams' chances of progressing are. SC Potsdam has everything in its own hands. If they win against Calcit Kamnik, they will be second in the group and therefore in the knockout round. But SC Potsdam shouldn't underestimate Calcit Kamnik's winless team because they only narrowly won 3:2 in the first leg.

The starting position for Allianz MTV Stuttgart is a little more difficult because they no longer have it in their own hands. It will be important for the Stuttgart team that they clearly win their final game against the winless and pointless Asterix Avo Beveren 3_1 or better 3:0. If A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano performs like in the other games and beats PGE Rysice Rzeszów with 3:1 or 3:0, then the table duel between the team from Stuttgart and the team from Rzeszów will come down to the set quotient and as a result, Stuttgart can then overtake Rzeszów into second place. Stuttgart also had the chance to survive the group phase as the best-placed third-place team.

  • Stuttgart will pay Neuwied's travel expenses for tomorrow's game. They will also receive free food from a Stuttgart sponsor after the game.

That's really nice, because we all know, that Neuwied will be just prey for the defending champion and current leader of the league. I expect Stuttgart to play with Hart as opposite, Vanjak and Miroslavjevic as OHs, Glaab as setter, Schwerdtner(Petter) as libera and Kayla Hanline as one middle, maybe changing the other two, to rest the most loaded players. (Bets are impossible for Stuttgart and 21 (!) for Neuwied, a value so high rarely seen)

  • TV match today 17:00 CET Vilsbiburg vs Aachen stream

Probably won't be the highest level match ever but could be balanced. According to Vilsbiburg's press release Vazquez is back with the team after her knee issues but I hope they don't rush anything because of Spanou's injury. Aachen needs every point to improve their playoff chances and today's match certainly can be a chance for them.

  • Today the VBL officially announced that VC Neuwied will not take part in the intermediate round. And that's why the new game mode in intermediate group B was announced. Accordingly, Group B will only have 4 teams, so there will now be a double round.

Very good news for teams of Group B!

  • Very good news for teams of Group B!

I wouldn't necessarily sign it like that. It does mean that all teams definitely have three home games, but compared to Group A it means that you have one more game in the same period. You can interpret that as meaning that they have an even worse starting position for the playoffs due to the additional workload.

But because they will be out of the playoffs earlier than the top five group this doesn't matter much.
