S.Korea - 2023-2024 V-League (Women)

  • Here are our FA players for the upcoming season:

Underlined players are part/may play in NT

Hyundai Hillstate - Jeong Ji Yun (OH), Na Hyun Soo (OPP, MB), and Kim Ju Hyang (OH)

Pink Spiders - Kim Mi Yeon (OPP, OH), Lee Wonjeong (S), Lee Juah (MB)

Red Sparks - Lee Soyoung (OH), No Ran (Lib), Park Eunjin (MB), Park Hyemin (OH)

GS Caltex - Han Suji (MB), Choi Eunji (OH), Han Da Hye (Lib), Kang Sohwi (OH)

IBK - Kim Hakyung (S), Kim Hyeong Jung (MB)

Hi-Pass - Go Eui Jeong (OH, OPP)

    Peppers - Kim Haebin (Lib)

Red Sparks may lose 1 of their OHs, either Lee Soyoung or Park Hyemin (high probability it is Hyemin since they have a foreign OH). But unless Lee Soyoung gets injured again, probably not since Hyemin is a good receiver.

GS Caltex needs an MB bad. Pink Spiders and Red Sparks each have NT players with FA status, they can try and get 1 of them.

IBK may not re-sign Pornpun since they need a foreign OH/OPP. Thus Hakyung is necessary.

Hyundai will try to keep everyone since they've been consistently high-ranking. However, Na Hyunsoo or Kim Juhyang can be traded in the event they want a better player than them or they cannot match the salary of existing players (they are already maxed I think).

Hi-Pass needs an OH and Setter, while Peppers needs a bit of everyone lol, especially a Libero.

  • Jeong Ji-Yun

    ... but where is Kim Da-in :(

  • Isn't KYK also a Free Agent this year? She only signed a 1-year contract with Pink Spiders for 2023/24

Articles state she wants to take a break before deciding whether she plans to continue, but her name should be in this list too no?

    I just saw this:

It seems KYK may retire this year. This activity is for the National Team retirement but it seems if she is also FA now, it may also mean that in this event, she will retire playing volleyball as well. :what:

Ah sorry, scratch that - KYK does not qualify for Free Agency even if she continues playing

If she wants to continue playing she will have to sign with Pink Spiders again, but her contract terms can be changed/different from 23/24 season

She needs to complete 3 seasons before qualifying for FA again

Since she already completed her first season after FA with Pink Spiders, it is possible she can be traded/rented to other teams for the next 2 seasons before she qualifies as FA again (but I doubt PS would allow that)

  • KYK confirmed she will continue another year with Pink Spiders and won't be retiring (source)

Hearsay from some Koreans that people in the volleyball world all knows that she has no plans at all to retire in the next couple of years

Not sure why she does it 1 year at a time and confirms at the end of each season that she will continue the next year if so though

Maybe she's undecided whether she should retire on a high and have a good legacy or continue on? or perhaps scarcity concept?

  • I think Kim’s continued presence can help to maintain/increase interest in the V League, among overseas fans, including those from Southeast Asia... :/

  • I think she wants to retire on a high. It is a great way to cap off one's career. Honestly, she doesn't really need to play volleyball if money is concerned since she is already a variety star in Korea.

Variety shows pay very little actually, the real money maker are brand endorsements - which usually one'd need to be in the news/active to receive.

I trust my source though, so gonna guess that she'd be staying in the league for a lot longer than expected before actually retiring

  • Lee So young joining IBK for 700 million korean won annual salary..if she can keep herself fit and injury free...then IBK can have more attacking options

    Oh wow. :O

She's definitely a loss for Red Sparks... but for 700 million won? Girl barely plays straight in the league due to constant injuries. If this is the case, Red Sparks will definitely renew Gia and keep Hyemin.
