S.Korea - 2023-2024 V-League (Women)

  • KGC and Hi-Pass made a 2:2 trade today:

Park Eunji (S) and Go Hwi Jung (OH) to Hi-Pass

Ahn Yerim (S) and Kim Sein (OH) to KGC

Hi-Pass gets a better setter, while KGC gets a better OH (in my opinion). Ahn Yerim is our tallest setter in the league but she's not creative nor stable. Hwi Jung is better offensively, while Kim Sein is better defensively. Park Eunji has great potential; she was doing really well when Yeum wasn't stable and she's got a mean serve same with her sister Park Eunseo. She's quite young so there's a lot of growing to be had still.

  • Here's our draft list for the rookies this upcoming season, which will happen on September 10, 2023:

Notable rookies: Without a doubt, Kim Sebin will be the first pick (U19 MB). Kwak Seon OK (OH) or Yu Garam (L) will probably be the 2nd and 3rd draft picks; both also played last U19. Shin Eunji, their opposite last U19 as well, will definitely be drafted.

My personal favorite is Choi Hosun, another opposite. She was great when I saw her at the AVC Cup (when Korea allowed high schoolers to play in an international competition :wall:). She also got a mean lefty jump serve like Shin Eunji.

Unfortunately, most of these players will be benched until their 2nd or 3rd year once they play in clubs. Yet players like Han Songyi will still get playing time.

  • Lolsss Choi Hosun is also my favourite...in fact she’s the only one I’m familiar with, not that I can read Hangul (but sometimes I wish I can :)). I am guessing she’s either second from the bottom on the left list, or bottom on the right because she’s quite tall.

She's the one on the 2nd slide, middle left, at 180.7cm height 😀 I remember you also went to watch the competition live. :super:

  • It seems that KGC has changed its club name to JungKwanJang Red Sparks.

Their logo looks like a NCAA / Collegiate Volleyball Team. Not really a fan, because I kind of dig their knight's emblem logo (maybe a more modern recreation so it's not a complete overhaul).

We need cute logos like those in Japan (or make it like Victorina Himeji's lol)

I suppose my opinion the exact opposite of yours:lol:

I found their previous name & emblem the most outdated of all the clubs, and find this a much needed branding change (Hipass needs one too)

JungKwanJang is a weird name to a sports club, but its the name of the brand which they are promoting, and at least they also used a more modern/English name - Red Sparks which is one of the nicest in the league now

It reminds me of NCAA like you said and the red/black volleyball court - and I like it a lot haha

Biggest problem is the colour red they have chosen clashes entirely with AI Pepper, red black white.... :gone:

  • I think Red Sparks is a good name, but it clashes with AI Peppers' branding. Also, I like their color scheme before which is kind of maroon/purple (I remember Diouf used to play in that color).

  • KOVO Draft Pick Order - Pepper, KGC (Red Sparks), IBK, GS Caltex, Pink Spiders, Hyundai, and last Hi-Pass. But it seems Pepper's first pick goes to Hi-Pass, while Pink Spiders' vote will go to GS Caltex.

Hi-pass got really lucky, they picked Kim Sebin! (And really bad luck for Peppers).

  • So... the V-League is gonna start this Saturday, but KOVO hasn't yet updated many of their player lists so we can't really put them yet here lol (I know it's available somewhere but I like just grabbing their data in the site lol).

The first match will start with Hi-Pass vs. Pink Spiders.

Here are our Asian quarter players:
