Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2023-2024

  • I just watched Haruko for the first time in YEAAARS and I'm only going by their jersey number since I don't know anyone in particular nor do I stan any schools. Anyway I forgot just how great their energy is compared to the regular V League and they also generally have more energetic commentators than the monotone and almost depressing female commentators they get at V League. The girls still have their bullish confidence not the usual all out smile but they shed that when they finally go pro

  • it is miya or mia whichever variant since the katakana for maya is マヤ. her surname could either be yemon or yeamon or if turned into japanese would probably start with an i in the way they pronounce every syllable

I haven't seen Miya's interviews so idk if she speaks Japanese but when Valdes was interviewed in the past spring high she already spoke Japanese

From as best as I can find, she has a Myanmar father and a Japanese mom and grew up in Tokyo after leaving Myanmar. I think the closest that I can guess is Miya Yaemon would be her name.

  • It's weird because just looking at Araki you'd think she has one of the most solidly built bodies you could imagine

If you think about it sans-Nagaoka all the girls from Hisamitsu's golden era never did any surgeries. They did suffer minor injuries except Ishii, Sakae and Toe the worst was probably Kano during her idle benched era. But when Saga+Sakai happened Hammy, Nakagawa, Hanai, Araki have all undergone at least 1 surgery. They have the highest count of injured players every season.

Edit: No wait Sakae got injured in 2020 when Misaki Inoue had to be main setter

Lucky SAGA probably has one of the best rehab systems in the League?

But that's interesting. Do you think it's just the players, or the training system run amok?

  • I'm getting some feels for Prestige tonight :box:

  • I thought Moeka Kinoe might just fade into oblivion like Tsukuba team mate Hina Kawakami, but she's slowly walked into the starting lineup and is doing ok :rose:

I won't repost for the 11th time how awesome she was at Tsukuba with Mandai feeding her

  • Koga's back attacks really are beautiful

On the other side of the net :: Saki Ishikura :super:

  • I was going to post that Prestige was gonna do it again. Staying even until 17 or so, the 17–20

    ... but then 20–20

    I got the feels :rose:

... but let's see what happens

    [-] oh well 24–26 ... better than 20–25

  • After set 1 It looked like a Denso obituary was forthcoming, but this has turned into a pretty good match

    Denso 1–1 NEC

    9-9 set 2

  • Saki Ishikura did well! :box:

She looks good, but kinda trailed off at the end, as did everything about Denso in set 4

  • JT running scared against Kurobe. Bringing in Hayashi :rolll:

  • Ameze Miyabe in now too :) :box::):box:

  • Kurobe obviously didn't get the memo to never beat JT in Set 1 :rolll:

Pimpichaya is not dressed. Akane Ukishima did pretty well in her stead (5/11) She's a pretty solid big swingin' southpaw OP. Rarely gets the chance to play, though
