Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2023-2024

  • It might be time for Sakai to step down he's been there long enough.

This was a huge upset for Saga getting snatched by Toyota lmao?!? I get it they were so close. Sakae might even retire after this judging by the river she cried in the last game of the regular season. Mandai was all haha hehe which I didn't understand considering her tosses were low impact and showed nothing you go girl:S

Congratulations to Toyota this the strongest they've been in years. Did someone say dark horse?

    Semifinals:

    NEC v Toyota

    JT v Saitama

  • Nakagawa is underdeveloped at Saga or maybe she's done progressing. She completely ruined the flow. Please throw her to Toray or somewhere she can play as starter and maybe refresh herself the way Kurogo is doing maybe she'll have a better chance. I don't understand where all the favoritism for Nakagawa is coming from keeping her in Saga and letting her into the NT is just reinforcing the mediocrity.

They had plenty of time to prepare god. Nakajima played badly even when she had to dig it was just wtf the whole time but she'll be fine. She's not Mayu but she has potential to be better in the future but she's nowhere near the next ace of anything.

Kitamado is their best bet for next season. Hopefully a new coach too

  • You know me with data. In a 5 set match, the winning team should outscore their opponent. And Toyota did that against the Springs.

    Saga should blowout Denso tomorrow.

Can Toyota do it against NEC, no.

JT versus Saitama should be fun, but JT should cruise.

  • It was a weird day for Saga. This is the first time they lost to Toyota. Saga still beat them during their pandemic fall from grace (2019 til 2021 season) when ishii was having an existential crisis. Toyota is a very different team now almost unrecognizable. I wasn't a fan of Arisa Nagano but she outshined Saga's middles in the match so you guys should know her by now.

I think it may be different with the help of Araki who is injured twice this season which is a new low for her that doesn't happen at all. Hanai who was initially in bad shape until she got injured and required surgery which again is another bad juju for the team. Mandai/Nakagawa/Yoshitake all flop subs.

But I think what really blew up in their faces was Sakae's biased tosses to Nagaoka. I read her article that she wanted to win, to dedicate a win for the 2 of them but unlike in her prime, Nagaoka is no longer the fastest nor the sharpest spiker especially when exhausted. She's been heavy with feints so as to preserve her condition throughout this entire season. It's clear that neutralizing her was Toyota's priority. Another is Nakajima being unable to dig leaving all the burden to Nishimura who was already overwhelmed.

All that said I think this will ultimately go down with JT and NEC. No more surprises.

  • the worst that could happen to saga is not make the top 4. theyve been hyping themselves up only to be beaten by toyota. vleague fans don't particularly care how great toyota's improvement is that's simply unacceptable. a lot of people will be complaining if ever any of the saga girls get into the nt and we all know which ones are likely to make it

I wouldn't sweat it. NT fans are a far bigger crowd whose sole focus is the players performance in the nt and if they play overseas in a major league. They're a different breed of rabid and toxic ideals. Fortunately they don't give a fuck about V League or any other local activities post-Haruko. Only a few Japanese boomers and some hardcore individual fans i.e. Miyashita's unhinged loyalists that see other players as a threat will be loud but that's nothing new.

regardless of how different the audience is, the announcement of selected players this year is sure to draw huge criticism/backlash. the girls haven't qualified yet so that's 1. 2 is if manabe puts his victorina girls in the roster and 3 is if nagaoka is selected she's a threat to hayashi and wada 5 would be seki but she's going overseas which for nt fans is good news so toray flopping no longer has anything to do with her 4 if nakagawa makes it again despite her role being a bystander for most of this season

Well....I mean I'd be mad too so I share that negativity lol.

Sitenoise said he wants saga to lose and they did if you want something just let it out. You might have jinxed some those names mentioned ;)

nagaoka has played in literally every match so far. she hasn't missed a single one and is still the top attacker in the league. failure to make the finals isn't her fault. its frustrating they were cut short yes but not the end of the world the bigger picture is still the olympics. obviously her presence means she's still a threat but nothing can be done about that since no one else has managed to surpass her. she's not the one below expectations unlike the rest of the names mentioned. seki did decent for a team with mostly young fillers sans-nwakalor but she's also done her part just fine this season. i dont get why you guys aren't as supportive of her as you were with momii or miyashita.

  • i dont get why you guys aren't as supportive of her as you were with momii or miyashita.

I don't even hate her or anything but she's as robotic as they come. I've also never seen her make wise decisions during the most crucial moments or bring out a better tempo to utilize the best combinations within the team when they're already sinking. That's what setters are supposed to do. Her distribution is all too predictable.

  • Quick question regarding the S.V. League since it has no relegation or promotion, what will happen to the V2 and V3 teams that aren't registered to S.V.? And does that mean the weakest teams get to stay within that circle forever? what if an unregistered team is making better progress or wants to challenge a weak team in the S.V.? I don't understand the hierarchy system for that? And when will it take effect?

  • Toyota payback for 2019/20 when Hisamitsu beat Toyota in the Final Round Group match or somewhere, for no reason, eliminating them from advancing and allowing Okayama to proceed :box:

I don't fully understand it but there was a recent kerfuffle where some V2/3 teams were going to split out and form some new league with teams that aren't currently in V.League like The Yamanashi Chuo Bank Sporting Bears and Toyota's other team, etc.

Some of the V2/3 teams don't want to, or are incapable of meeting the Licensing requirements of the new, or what was going to be the new V.League (below the SV.League)

Now the JVL is switching things up again. There will be three categories:

    1. A club that aims to be the world's best in terms of competitiveness, business strength, and governance strength in the SV.LEAGUE
    2. Clubs that aim to solidify their footing and join the SV.LEAGUE in the future (SV associate member clubs)
    3. Clubs not aimed at commercialization/Clubs aimed at corporate welfare

I don't believe there will be relegation, per se. I imagine the only way a #1 League team would drop out would be because of financial problems

Teams in #2, like, say, Brilliant Aries, Gunma, and sadly probably Prestige Aranmare, can try and promote to SV.League until it has 16 teams (there was talk that if it grows beyond that of splitting into two SV.League conferences).

Teams in #3 like GSS Sunbeams, Forest Leaves, and the teams we only see in the National 6 person tournaments will just have fun playing volleyball

No idea about promotion/relegation between #2 and #3, or where teams like Artemis Hokkaido and the two Fukuoka teams (who have aspirations), and maybe Himeji's spun-off Farm team will end up and work their way through the system

  • Essentially the SVL is going to be separate from the currently V.League. Teams in V2 and V3 will essentially be promoted if they want continue in the current version of the V.League.

To get promoted to SVL teams will have to meet all of the requirements. But also where will the numbers of team stop in top level. 16 teams in the top tier of SVL is the highest number that I have seen.

  • JVL did it again, like they did 5 years ago with the "New Vision" V.League. They cooked up some scenario without talking to teams about what they might be willing or able to do. That's why there was Mutiny Talk from some V2/3 teams

To Metro Volleyball 's inquiry ... there will not be any way to "win" your way up the ladder. It's all about money and licensing requirements and HOME Arenas

SV.League will be separate from the two lower categories, except for those "SV associate member clubs" however they might define them. We know who they will be, but I don't see more than about 6-8 teams MAX in that category. They will be teams that can meet licensing requirements--not who the best teams are. For example, Viale Hyogo might make it, while GSS Tokyo and Chiba Angel Cross might not, likely will not

The real question is that grey area between #2 and #3. When a team like Tokyo Cerisier says "Our goal is V.League" ... what does that even mean any more?

there will eventually be pro-rel as teams meet the new standards.
