Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2023-2024

  • Some of you remember Angry Fu, the 187cm Chinese MB who dropped out of college to chase her dream of playing with Haruka Miyashita and signed with Okayama Seagulls a couple years ago. She was weirdly, seemingly ostracized from the team at the end of last season. She's signed with V2 GSS Tokyo Sunbeams now. It's tragic, and saddens me. Something happened and we'll never know what it was

  • Himeji is the first women's team to apply and be accepted to the SV.League starting 2024/25. Two men's team have also been accepted: Panasonic and Suntory

My prediction is that two V1 teams will not make it and four V2 teams will: Hamamatsu, Brilliant Aries, Gunma Bank, and Himeji

  • Shibata is wearing #8 for Himeji in this Empress Cup thing

  • Remember the occasional discussion of whether the best high school teams are better than the best university teams?

Kinrankai HS just beat the two best university teams from the Kansai Region to advance to the Final Round of the Empress Cup (to be held in December during V.League break)

Ryukoku U is undefeated in the current Kansai Autumn League Tournament, and Kobe Shinwa are the reigning Spring League Champions (where they went undefeated)

Granted, the best Kansai teams would struggle to qualify for the Kanto League, but still ... it quite the accomplishment for the Kinrankai girls. Beastly Anna Uemura is back from injury and appears healthy. That helps

  • Captain Fukudome

The irony of Saga's 2 representatives not being Hisamitsu original members. Nobody associates these 2 to Hisamitsu Springs also neither are good for marketing. Nothing against Ohtake but she's running it thin as captain. She'll probably retire this season.

  • the most "who?" introduction to this season's sv league. look at toray, they're reduced to 2 unknown girls 1 is the captain and the other a nobody who has done nothing for toray.

another thing i noticed is that kurogo isn't even back yet. will she skip this season again?

The season hasn't opened yet there's still time for her to appear. She disappeared right after they announced her transfer which is so odd and if she opted to skip it could result in her being fined by V League and/or Saitama for violating her contract for this season.

she doesn't even train with ageo while all of them including the b team reps do. is she just gonna appear by the time it opens without ever training with the team? lol is she egonu now

  • Whoever runs Saitama's IG probably ain't a big fan of her lol

    So yeah

I lost interest in Nishimura. She will probably continue to do well. She has to. Saga made her a thing.

Iwasawa/Kobata/Toe and that JT libero nobody knows that's not Meguro >>>> Nishimura

  • Kojima and Fukudome are two liberos who seem to get better as the competition got tougher, ie., the big leagues. Fukudome is just fast. Kojima had that "fuck you, try hitting one past me. I dare you" attitude, which is rare

Iwasawa remains to be seen but it would be cool if she became "Japan's libero". She has great intuition of where loose balls are going to end up. I've never seen her talk or anything. I just assume she's charming/funny and don't want to be disappointed

I like Iwasawa, she's the Tasmanian Devil for Ageo, here, there and everywhere. Jaja and Iwasawa was a great team on the court.
