Asian Women’s Volleyball Updates, Events and Discussions

  • Creamline Cool Smashers and Petro Gazz Angels will represent the Philippines in the upcoming Asian Champions League. They can send 2 teams as a host.

The ongoing league though is All Filipino Conference so there are no foreign players. I don’t know if they’ll sign one just for the tournament 😅

Petro Gazz, in paper, has signed "foreign players" already (FilAms who haven't transferred federations yet: Van Sickle and Phillips), while Creamline can sign up Erica Staunton again (Erica played with them in the Reinforced Conference) considering she's just finished her stint in the Indonesian league.

  • Bich Tuyen will be quite controversial considering the Korean's attitude towards anything "scandalous" in nature. Rooting for Solomon! She has tough competition of Tall Ops but hopefully she impresses a team. She needs to be less error prone though.

  • Both Japan and Indonesia will not have teams in the upcoming AVC Champions League because the schedule is in conflict with their league. I'm not sure about the schedule of KOVO but Korea will not field a team as well.

ugh my excitement for this competition went down by a lot.:aww: To complete the 12 teams, Philippines was granted a 3rd slot so PLDT High Speed Hitters will be able to join.

The results of the draw lots are here:

  • The absence of teams from Korea and Japan is gonna reduce interest in this event. If the event's dates clash with SV league's QF, SM & F, they could've given the chance to a team (not likely) to be involved there, idk :/

  • Korea hates joining competitions like this (even though their standard of players currently suffer). Does this provide FIVB points, coz if it does they should have joined.

It’s a club competition so no points to Countries. It’s just for qualification for World Club Championship.

I think they've given the AVC club event a miss for the last few years. It's interesting that last year their clubs have joined some events organised by AVC members, and have done well there too. Red Sparks winning both the Shanghai Future Star C'ships and Taichung Bank Invitational and Expressway getting Bronze in VTV Ferroli.

  • Unfortunately, Alyssa Solomon (PHI NT starting OPP) had to withdraw at KOVO Draft because of the Collegiate League rule in the Philippines prohibiting players to be part of Draft for Professional League while still playing in the collegiate league :aww: The draft schedule will still fall within the collegiate league competition which ends in May, so she'll lose her amateur status and will affect her eligibility here if she participates ;(

Why she's still in the college?

Rules differ from country to country, I guess they have their reasons to implement them. But I do feel Solomon should've been given a chance....good for herself, good for the NT, and for her many fans. Make an exception, please 🙏
