Chinese women's NT 2024

  • In fact, Fan Po-ning is always the substitute one of Wang Yin-di.

Even Fan played the match as a MB for many times...

OP - Jiang Chuan, Dai Qing-yao
    OH - Zhang Jing-yin, Yu Yuan-tai, Liu Li-bin, Fu Hou-wen
    MB - Zhang Zhe-jia, Peng Shi-kun, Li Yong-zhen, Jiang Zhen-yang

  • I may sound cynical but why do I feel this u17 team could've done better than the senior team at the Olympics ?

Easy explanation, major volleyball countries do not focus so much on the age group competitions unlike China and Japan, and perhaps Italy, Turkiye are still paying some attention. Where are Serbia, USA, Poland, Netherlands here? There are many strong senior European teams, but much less visible in this age group, prolly they just ignored the U17 🤔

Btw VBTV Girl's U17 World Championship Replay video are just available for some matches, I hope it's just technical matter that they have not completed the whole upload, the replay now covers the end part, from final to QF to some group matches. No CHN v TUR replay, yet.

I read some sport news about the Chinese Olympic delegation being received by President Xi, it shortly mentioned that Cai Bin would get some award or appreciation from the Shanghai Sports authority among a dozen or so players and coaches, which incl. Fan Zhendong, swimmer Qin Haiyang, and so on 😛😅 I wish a better NT coach but have no idea on who's that person could be. Deep in my thought... why not call Lang Ping to return to guide the team for one more cycle or so while at the same time preparing the next head coach? Unless Lang really refuses for very strong personal reasons, it should be tried. Lang is just 63 yo, Roberto is 70. The private sector wastes so much money for football and basketball, why not some rich allocates a portion for the volleyball incl. some bonus for the coach? After all the 2021 Tokyo fiasco is a fateful virus fiasco, once in a lifetime, possibly once in many centuries.

One more time, Dong Yuhan (2) made an impact when she came to the court, substituted Guo Xiangling (5) in the set 2, overturned the table, from trailing to leading.

From then on Dong played throughout the match. This scene is a just like the déjà vu of the Gold Medal Match of China vs Japan at the 22nd Asian Women's U20 Volleyball Championship not long ago.

The starters: both Wang Aoqian (11) and Li Chenxuan (4) remained outstanding as in their preceding continental tournament; Fan Boning (1) also contributed a lot.

The Japanese team, as usual, showed a strong defensive play, not easy to kill their balls, presented an interesting match, entertaining for viewers.

Btw, the volleyball court is located in the Lu Mall, not the usual court for volleyball, the bigger one for hosting the VNL match in HK.

  • CHINA 🇨🇳: FIRST GIRLS' #FIVBU17 CHAMPIONS 🏆

History was made for 🇨🇳 as they won 🥇 in the inaugural edition of the Girls’ U17 World Championships. They dominated the tournament, dropping only one set 🔥. Captain Shuming Yang led the team with 20 points in their 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) over Japan 🇯🇵 in the final. Italy 🇮🇹 secured the bronze medal.

  • It's quite an achievement for the youngsters

The team is strong overall and imo, has great potentials with proper nurturing and management.

    Some of my observations:

Reception has improved. In the finals they were able to partially neutralize the Japanese servers who were so effective against the Italians in the SF.

Setting - Zhang has been outstanding but there's still room for improvement. I noticed her back sets to position 2 often came up short. Luckily OP Yang was able to deal with most of it. Speaking of whom, it's been a long while since they had such an effective opposite.

The serves also made an impact... well placed floats, dippers or powerful jump serves like those of no.4 Sun. The wing spikers were impressive, hitting hard with quick arm movements and capable of backrow attack. I only wish they'll do away with the nonsense about selecting only hitters who're 190cm or over.

The bench has players specially picked for specific duties. Reserve OH no.16 Chang, a capable replacement for no.10 Huang when she needed a rest, MB no.3 Si and Setter no.15 Wang, both terrific servers, and defensive specialist no.14 Feng who played a crucial role in that tight set 3 against Turkiye.

With players capable of multiple roles... Feng OH/Libero, Wang Setter/OP, it looked like a team with more than 12 players, all effective in their positions ^^

  • Both the head coaches of the Junior squads Kuang Qi and Zhao Yong could be a better and more effective choice for the senior NT team than the present one.

Here's a player list of the U17 team in Lima, Peru for archive purpose, couldn't find a better, more informative list with embedded player pics.

Btw, there were many Chinese supporters in the final match in Lima, looked like a huge Chinese society in Peru, seemed to be exceeding even the local Japanese descent supporters there, a country whereas Alberto Fujimori once be its president.

Here's a 4K footage of 35 minutes of the final match, differs from the VBVT one
