Chinese women's NT 2024

  • Best wishes for the Chinese team, wish the team will redeem its total failure in Tokyo OG, and overcome the Turkish team, now reinforced by Melissa Vargas! I hope Zhu is fine. I also wish Serbia will overcome Italy as it did many times. If Chinese team advances into SF, better to face Serbia than Italy. I don't care about Cai Bin but care for the Chinese team! At least I hope the team will be on podium, also a sweet medal farewell to Zhu in Olympics.

Cai Bin probably has the easiest job in women's volleyball. Even I can do the subs he is making and what he is saying in the timeouts

  • 李盈莹:“我可能没有下一届了。”

Li Ying-ying said, "I could not participate in LA 2028."

The reason might be that her injury is too heavy now.

My favourite roster of Chinese (in 2022)
    male NT:
    S - Yu Yao-chen, Chen Lei-yang
OP - Jiang Chuan, Dai Qing-yao
    OH - Zhang Jing-yin, Yu Yuan-tai, Liu Li-bin, Fu Hou-wen
    MB - Zhang Zhe-jia, Peng Shi-kun, Li Yong-zhen, Jiang Zhen-yang
    L - Yang Yi-ming, Yang Tian-yuan

    female NT:
    S - Yao Di, Diao Lin-yu
    OP - Gong Xiang-yu, Sun Xiao-xuan
    OH - Li Ying-ying, Wang Yi-fan, Wu Meng-jie, Zhuang Yu-shan
MB - Yuan Xin-yue, Wang Yuan-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Liu Yu
    L - Ni Fei-fan, Xu Jia-nan

  • Having a good coach would have made the difference.

  • What's her injury?:teach:

LYY picked up knee injuries in mid 2023 iirc and needed treatment, but Cai Bin got her to continue playing so the injury became worse. It got so bad that LYY needed help to get down from the rostrum during the Asian Games award ceremony. She never fully recovered, so that's why she holds back with her jumps and couldn't bend lower to receive some balls.

She should put her health as #1 priority.

At least she has WCH bronze, WC gold, VNL silver...

  • Anyone know what squad China is sending to the 2024 Women's Asia East Regional Championships that starts next week?

I don't have any link to it because it's AVC :white:

Japan is sending Uni Squad, so at volleybox I'm calling it U23

  • lol this is a thing?

I know, lol, but it's kinda cool. One of a very few chances to see North Korea. Taipei has won this thing a few times, I think. But I forget what kind of squads (or even clubs) get sent there. Hasn't been held since 2018 (it's a biannual thing)

  • Wow - two consecutive Olympics without making quarterfinals… can’t believe it.

China made the quarterfinals this time. You mean two consecutive Olympics without medaling?

China best chance of getting to the podium was Tokyo Olympics. Too bad a handful of the core NT players were injured especially ZT. If All were healthy, there was a big possibility 🇨🇳 could win. This Paris Olympics, the players were not as good as they were perhaps most have past their peak and they are not physically injured free.

  • Does LYY gotten offers to play in the Turkish or Italian league. I hope the 🇨🇳🏐 association or her Tianjin club release her and let her play abroad. It will be a nice gift to her for her service to the country. Let her shine abroad as well as she deserves a big paycheck from foreign club. She is a elite athlete who should be given recognition outside of her country. Plus she will be taken care of better physically unlike in the domestic league she got to play all the matches even if the opponents are weak.

I doubt it will be more than what she gets in Tianjin

CVA management ruined the best generation of Chinese players in my opinion. Tokyo should have benched Zhu because she was too injured to be effective in any way. Playing her might have exacerbated her wrist injury. Paris already ended before they started because they kept a bird brain coach who have not shown anything this cycle. Zhang Changning might be the most under utilized talented player in history. I just felt bad for the players because they deserved better.

so sad to see ZT playing through pain. All those funny faces while playing Turkey is likely pain from her wrist when she hits/blocks and Vargas is hammering it hard every time.
CB just ruined the entire tournament. Ironically being in the top of the pool got them Turkey and US got Poland. (Not that Poland is a bad team but China might have gone into SF based on their track record)

Like why bring ZCN when you don’t trust her to play. Bringing her on as a serve sub???? What a waste! Considering her service reception, which China really needed in that game, he could have let her sub in for ZT. Not only the game against Turkey, but France and Serbia. I hope to not see CB near the NT again.
do all those assistant coaches and trainer on the benches not a have say in any of the decision making during the game? Is it all CB and whoever he’s taking directions from?

I guess it’s probably best to stop here and not proceed any further to save more of their players from injury. I doubt they had any chance against Italy anyways.
I hope Wu MJ will continue her quest for the next Olympics as I think everyone else seems to be retiring since they will be considered “old” for the next one.

They need to get rid of Cai Bin first. He's the type of coach that can only hurt the team. He plays the same group of players to death even with injuries like what he did to Li Yingying. He played Gong with ankle injury at the World Championships. Knee and ankle injuries are potential career ending injuries if they don't get treated right away. If Cai Bin keeps his job, then we all know something is wrong in upper level management.
