2024 Women’s Volleyball Nations League

  • I am frustrated though because I do think we maybe could have beat DR and be more competitive with China if Uzelac and Lazovic were available like they were supposed to be

  • I watched a bit of TR-ITA after arriving home.

I'm not a huge fan of the game of the girls rn but then again I guess it's still too early to draw conclusions. However I'm happy Tuğba is at least showing she is pretty important for this team (especially if Ebrar also is going to be used as OH)

    Ebrar-Hande-Ilkin-Tuğba-Vargas

Makes sense in this moment I think. The big problem for me thus far is energy, the girls are not giving. Also still hope to see some Derya action.

  • I think Kurtagic needs to be selected for Paris. Her blocking is just too good. Imagine her blocking along side Boskovic as well

Agree, right now she is more reliable than popovic and stevanovic. Her only problem is weak attack, but with aleksic, kurtgaic-aleksic is good MB duo.

I am thinking if serbia should go with this lineup to OG:

    Bošković

    Maja-Drča

    Aleksić-Popović-Stevanović-Kurtagić

    Buša-Uzelac-Lozo?

    Popović-Jegdić

I am choosing Popović over Pušić because she had some good defenses and maybe she can step in as defensive specialist, while Jegdić is libero

  • her attack isn’t great yet for sure but potential is there. She can sometimes hammer the ball if it is set in front. With maja I think she could improve attack. I don’t like her being set slides though lol

True, better setter will for sure make difference. Then she can go fast through middle and aleksić on slide. Or if they want to run slide stevanović.

I don’t love Aleksic slide either but luckily with Boskovic slide hitting isn’t as important and Aleksic slide isn’t the worst thing ever it’s just not as dynamic and good as like a Julia K or a Rettke slide

I didn't really watch popovic in russian league. Has she been any good? I think Serbia will go with 3 MBs to OG, but i really want Hena to go. Could Hena maybe go instead popovic?

I think she had a good season offensively? She won best middle blocker. I can’t imagine she was good blocking though. Her and maja have insane connection and she can absolutely crush the ball but she is liability blocking and I’d rather play Kurtagic but popovic has the experience and she was good in Tokyo at least. If Mina is going to start then I want her getting set a LOT to make up for the lack of blocking she provides

Hena still makes much more sense for me, because for middle attack you need perfect pass. If the pass is not good she will not be used anyway so blocks are more worth.

  • Absolutely agree with you about Tuğba.

On the other hand, I cannot blame anyone but maybe Santa a bit, since he made the subs late. Back to back receivings problems, especially in the 2nd set by Hande and Ebrar, really dropped the mood of the team. It is absolutely normal to have such ups and downs and both names were not productive at all.

After a successfull game by İlkin, I tried to understand why she was not in starting 6 and noticed once again, that damn bandage on her leg as she was wearing last year in some matches. Probably due to such energetic, compulsive and pushy game against Nederlands, she had some muscle pain. That is also why she was not forced to attack. She was in, just to cover Hande's place, at least to increase the receiving performance. Maybe Santa should prefer Derya, instead of İlkin, since while Tuğba was at the back, all attack load was on Vargas. Beyza also added some energy but that was not good enough to turn the match. It was again a late move.

The last point was, yes we should admit that, Italy played very well both at attack and defence, put all their energy and spirit in the court. Very well deserved win for them and all I can say, Congrats Italy. Especially, Degradi was really great.

  • Today huge victory of Italy B team!!! :olympia::olympia::olympia::obey::obey::obey::woohoo::dance4:

I thought Italy was only missing Fahr and maybe Lubian in the middle but the middles did a great job today, and besides that, there is a big debate between Antropova vs. Egonu, (I think Egonu has a higher ceiling but she is more error prone) and except for the end of the first set the setter did a very good job. I thought Italian coaches studied this game very well. I think the problem is within the Turkish team, they need to focus they need to play with energy. I think losing this early to Japan and Italy is the best thing happened to them. I am hoping tomorrow France can push them hard so that they will learn and at the end of the third week they will be playing like a well-oiled machine. You see I am looking like this, this is an Olympic year you want your opponent to play as hard as possible against you, that is the only way you could get better. Italy and Japan did that this week and hopefully next week will be even harder.
