Can someone explain this whole marriage dilemma for Japanese athletes? I doubt IOC has that kind of policy. I've never heard of it until now and it boggles my mind why it would be an issue to stay active together when they are representing their country and are also unifying their sports you would think that's a plus
It's not the IOC but JOC. Japan just like Korea has an extremely austere marriage culture for public figures.
I don't even know where to start with this topic but I figured JVA must've dragged this on for as long as possible so Koga can still play until this Olympics. When Koga stated that she wanted to retire after Tokyo ultimately due to their tragic circumstances but also because her and Nishida were already planning on marrying each other is an indication that their status could've been a huge problem had they not come out publicly.
