Japan Women's NT 2024

  • The best defense is a good offense.

No one ever said best offense is a good defense because that strategy is for losers and that's exactly the only thing Japan abides by. Good for the men's team because they have Ishikawa who not once has ever played for a local league in Japan. But what now for the girls

they have nishida too and the girls doesnt have that because they have 12 allrounders who cant do shit

  • Mayu Hayashi and what's the name of the other one that scored 30+ that one time? those girls are definitely not mass-produced that's talent but like Shinnabe they're all extremely short. If they had to choose a different sport like maybe tennis that too would fuck them up because they're dumplings. They can't have more shinnabes in their roster.

Naomi Osaka is already 180cm why would Japanese volleyball players be shorter than her when the sport itself requires height. This is not some highschool haikyu dream. The little giant is a myth.

Blame their federation's scouts and development division because there's no way they haven't found someone as tall or taller than Saori Kurihara Araki Otomo etc. in this era where the generation has gotten so much taller than millennials. There should be absolutely no excuse that they're still relying on a lineup made up of girls the height of middleschoolers

  • Nah, the problem is the middle game, and ultimately the setter's game. Tominaga improved both Mayu and Sarina with better sets but she was a disappointment with the middle game. And she knew it. She'd meet with Seki and ask how to get better at it (some vbm article I'm not going to look up), but nothing happened. She's got what she's got

All this fantasy talk about mysterious 195cm Japanese girls wandering around Japan being ignored by scouts is plain weird

All the young 180+ players are on NT trainer teams and they get trashed here in the forum, and don't play much. Yeah, let's put them on the NT because they are taller

  • This term "allrounder" used to be kind of a compliment meaning little more than you're an OH who can pass. Now it's term of derision. I know the social medias like to jump on namecalls for shorthand but .... "allrounders who can't do shit". How does that even make sense?

  • The setter problem is bleak. The only one in the pipeline is Niina and she will come with the Tsukuba Curse :)

  • She could've coached JT considering all the yapping she did about the women's team but she probably thinks she's above SV League anyway. She made a choice not to be part of the "downfall". Sour candyass move.

The JVA sealed their fate with her as a child.

They basically told her to not go to college. Her mom was the head coach at Waseda University, one of the best school's in the country, and also where I went as an exchange student for a year 30 years ago. She basically wanted to play for Hitachi, essentially the national team back in the day, and the head coach said, don't go to college and you'll be on the national team.

She said no, I am going to college. Coach basically blackballed her with the federation because she wanted to do what was her choice. So, she never gets the call to the national team.

Because of having an American father, she goes for the national team tryout that is open to all college students. She gets on the USA team, and continues to show the JVA that is can bleep itself.

Not really significant but I wonder if her father is actually Swedish

  • I guess the guy's active because she doesn't publicize him

Guy is an ordinary citizen. Nomoto calls him "Keito-san" but under law Ishii is not allowed to make any of his details public just like Yanagida cannot discuss his wife and cannot be seen with her during his official activities. Since Ishii just retired in 2022 (this is the basis) there has to be a minimum of 10 years together with or without children before he can appear with her on social media or be seen in public with her during major events. There are heavy consequences if they break any of these rules which the IOC implemented for "the safety of spouses/family members who are not in the public eye"

10 years?? IOC rules? you mean Japan rules? no wonder they're having less babies. this is unhinged.

My bad, yeah JOC not IOC. Japanese Olympic Committee. Same goes for celebrities or basically any public figures in general unless their partners are also public figures.

I don't know China's rules but in South Korea more or less it's the same thing. Restrictions are in place in order to protect their loved ones from overly possessive fans and avoid serious complications like stalking, evasion of privacy, harassment, child endangerment, theft, trespassing, paparazzi flocking their family members and many other illegal activities.

  • Mayu for Novac Corporation (construction company)

CM was shot in Himeji prior to her going to Italy

I think this is her first solo CM. I don't know if her ambassador contract with Mizuno will be renewed by Feb but she has no solo ads with them post-Olympics.
