Polish NT 2024

  • Bit random but i just love this topics, mentioning Lena, Liktoras, Podolec, bringing such a lovely memories to me. One of the earliest matches that i clearly remember was epic Poland vs Serbia 5 setter at World Cup 2007 (Podolec was amazing with crazy performance), also Top Volley torunament and matches between Volero Zurich (serbian colony), Winiary Kalisz (Lena) and Pinheiros.

So sad Podolec was playing so good for one season only. In 2008 she was destroyed by the injury already and after the surgery never came back to a such level. I think she had the same as Samuel Fuchs.
Also Lena was destroyed so much by missing the Olympic roster and Mirek with her prime sitting at home. It’s the first time I have such positive feeling about our NT after that times.

  • I fall in love with Podolec after that match so hard, she was so dominant, internet wasn't such a thing, so from the perspective of 10yo boy she was one of the best players in the world .

The current team is probably better overall, better composition and well balanced, but i'm still admiring that team (whole era) the most, like Kasya, Glinka, Podolec, Lena, Liktoras, Zenik, Baranska bit later,.....,oh i'm still loving that team and always had impression that they could do more than they did.

Now i will stop with this sentimental outbursts and let you guys talk about the current team :drink:.

comparing both teams I would like to say that in the past (after 2005 year) we had very good players, but not a TEAM till now, we have good players but they are a real team. Thats a different in my opinion. Lavarini unite them. Pity that we didn`t had big success in world stage with such a good roster. I miss stars like Glinka, Skowrońska ect, but its nice to see how right now new stars are becoming:heart:

  • well I think in that time 2007-2008 it was mostly a problem with the Bonitta, he couldn´t take the best out of that team, remember how girls were playing in Halle in Olympic qualification, the 5 set match with Russia in the finals, the Russians were lucky to win it when Liuba woke up in the tiebreak..if Lavarini was coach then, I think he would make Skorupa the first setter and I think the game would look completely different...Olympic quarterfinal was not unreachable for the girls

  • I`m sure that with coach like Lavarini we could be much better then. We were rich in good players. Pity that it didn`t work well...

  • the potential of Poles was not worse than for example Serbians ..ok they had Maja, but Zenik was not worse than Cebic, Glinka than Nikolic, Skowronska than Brako/ Djera, Liktoras than Citakovic...

Agreed, Poland wasted so many good generations without medals just because of bad coaches🤦 werblinska was one of my favorite players at that time. She could have a great club career if she would have gone abroad. I miss her explosive jump serves:rose:

  • that time Serbia had Terzic which knows his players so well and could build strong team prepared for big tournaments:cup:

if I`m not wrong, Eczacibasi wanted Werblinska, but when she refuse their offer, club contract with Larson.

  • Yes I think that playing with 3 OPP at the same time was the main reason for bad OG performance. Rosner was already after her best times but certainly Werblinska or Mirek or Jagielo could have been starters. Okay Glinka was maybe half OH but Podolec never played as OH and I really don’t know what was Bonitta thinking.
Even with this crazy setting they were close to beating Japan and USA and took a set of strong China and Cuba but certainly they could have done much more than this.

  • We talking about past and now I have a question about future. I see that in u18 team there is a player Natasza Ornoch. She is 187 cm high and her position is OutsideHitter. I read some infos that she is very talented and can be future for Polich NT. Any more infos and opinions about this girl? She is talented like for example Czyrna?

  • The few times I got a chance to see Podoba (Mirek), she was outstanding. I wish I could see more of her, because when she was in Firenze there wasn't the current effort to show all games; it was just one game each week on television, no streaming at all.

yeah yeah, she was a great player with character, pity that she didn´t develop her career more (specially club career)

  • I also leave it here.

Today was the worst Wolosz’s match I ever seen since 2012 (Olympic qualies against Serbia) but despite that we won. I think she was nervous, maybe I’m wrong. She didn’t have problem with choices but with accuracy.
And here we talked with some users why we would wait for Czyrna until the 1st game at the Olympics. She clarified it for the next time why and today in an important game.

  • I don’t think that anyone here was saying that we should not take healthy and in form Czyrna to the Olympics. It was more that if she was neither of those things she shouldn’t go lol.

Good to see her healthy though she will be a huge asset to our squad. I think Lavarini used this VNL mostly well when it comes to see how each OH can perform at the moment (outside of Górecka maybe, whose defensive skills could be helpful). Łukasik - Czyrniańska - Mędrzyk - Różański should be our 4 OHs but tbh I think it would make more sense to bring Szygłowska as 4th OH instead of Różański (and Różański as 13th player). Olympics are max 6 matches and there definitely will be more times when we will struggle at reception and use 2nd libero than times when our both main OHs suck so badly that they need to be changed (since Czyrniańska/Mędrzyk are going to be always a preferred sub option than Różański).

Wolosz is so experienced and won so much in her career that I don’t believe she was nervous in QF game of even not the most important tournament this year. She is probably just tired and in bad shape but for sure she can play better after a few weeks without intense schedule

But I think Wenerska fits better to the system and plays with better accuracy, especially with Korneluk. She should enter the court much often and earlier. Maybe tomorrow she will get more chances same as Malwina. This double sub is so strong

Korneluk said that since Wolosz joined they were not training much because all they did was matches all the time maybe she needs to practice with girls more in a training environment.

Pinderska is 195 cm high. She was the best OPP and the best scorer Polish Championships U18 2023/24.

    Ornoch is most like Łukasik.
