Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2024/25

  • 3 games from Second league pro will have another result. Vilsbiburg Freisen and Starubing have to much foreign players on the court.

Did the teams know about this rule before season start?

I am especially asking about Freisen because they have 7 foreigners.

  • So I just checked Freisen's match in question. In their starting seven they have a German setter, German OH and German libero. In the first set against BBSC Berlin, they replaced the German OH with a foreign player for the last few points of the set. Apparently the rules posted above don't apply for starting six plus libero but for actual "players on court" which is probably what broke their neck. If the libero hadn't left the court while the foreign OH was on, nothing would have happened, but now it seems they'll lose the match because of that :white:

OTOH Vilsbiburg and Straubing in their respective matches played large parts of the match with 5 foreigners out of 7 players and libero being one of two German players, so whenever the libero was off they didn't have two German players on court. I guess this rule is worth discussing in general, I think all leagues that use foreign player limits use starting six plus libero as base.

  • I think all leagues that use foreign player limits use starting six plus libero as base.

No. Polish leagues use the rule of 3 foreigners on court. So there might be a team which has 2 foreign middles and libero and it counts as 2, because they are never on the court at the same time.

Speaking of Freisen, I believe that they started doing the transfers pretty early for lower division teams. For example, it was announced in April that Monika Gorzka will join a team in 2. Bundesliga, maybe they weren't aware of foreigners limits at that time or the rules were under discussion.

  • Just not possible to go through ads for fullscreen and sound, but at least I can see my Dutch babies in action:heart: (if anyone knows how to avoid the ads and get sound with it pls send help)

In firefox, wait minute or two and this will show up

  • Thanks for the tip! My choices of browser are either Chrome (which I'm currently using) or Safari though.. but maybe this sign shows up there as well. Can you get the sound on or also not?

    Yes, sound is ON.

    Btw firefox is the best.

  • Yes, sound is ON.

    Btw firefox is the best.

Omg you're a lifesaver :flower: I downloaded Firefox and not only can I avoid the ads through this fullscreen button, but also sound button is visible and pause/fast forward option available. If only I had known this 10 years ago already :rolll:

OT: LIB looks good with Hyke as setter, she's trying to involve everyone and that second no-look ball to the back was something out of my own book, I love it :cheesy: Münster looks so messy and very dependent on their opposite, although they do keep fighting for every ball which is nice to see. Molenaar clearly needs to grow for this level but tbh being a starter in Bundesliga at age 19 is already more than I could've hoped for :rose:

Is there a source for the sanction imposed?

I have checked this. With the score at 20:24, the Freisen libera leaves the field and only one German player is left.

  • State of the second leagues, especially Pro: yesterday the 8 regional cup finals took place, and while in every region at least one second pro team was eligible to play, some of those cups were won by the second league north or south teams amateurs on league below anyway. The winners, with one exception, host the first league teams in first round of national DVV cup now. Here the overview:

Southeast/Bavaria: winner Rote Raben Vilsbiburg (now 2. pro), they defeated a less known team in the finals (there), after passing in even more local competitions before for example fellow team Dingolfing, I don't know what happened to Straubing anyway. They will now host Münster.

East/Saxonia and Thuringia: I don't know, what happened to Grimma (2. Pro), but the finals were won by Neuseenland Markkleenberg (2. South, quickly ascending through leagues the last years) against a lower ranked other team from Erfurt. They will now host Aachen.

Northeast/Berlin-Brandenburg: winner was BBSC Berlin(-Brandenburg) from 2. pro, playing at old Köpenick location usually (Hämmerlinghalle), defeating Cottbus and others. They will host now Potsdam.

North/Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: the Stralsunder Wildcats (by themselves relegated to 2. North) managed to defeat ETV Hamburg (2. pro) in four sets and will now face another team for the last berth in DVV cup:

Northwest/Lower Saxonia and Bremen: I don't know, where Oythe (Vechta), now 2. pro and still undefeated in that league, was, but the finals were won by SCU Emlichheim (2. north). So Oythe vs. Stralsund will determine the last team not decided yet, the winner will host Wiesbaden (I).

West/Northrhine Westfalia: DSHS SnowTrex Köln/Cologne, 2. pro, won the finals in Hörde, 2. north. I don't know, how the other teams of this big state fared, several 2. pro teams are in that zone too (Borken, Leverkusen...). They will now host Erfurt.

Southwest/Hesse, Rhineland-Pfalz, Saarland: Wiesbaden II (second south) made an upset of SSC Freisen (2. pro) in four sets in the finals, but you should now, that Wiesbaden II is dominating that second south league somewhat and would prefer 2. pro, but are not eligible for it (one league has to be in between first and second team always). They will now host Dresden.

South/Baden-Württemberg: as expected favorite Binder Blaubären Flacht (part of Weissach, region Stuttgart) from 2. pro won the finals, both semi and final in three sets, the latter against Karlsruhe-Beiertheim from second south. They will now host Stuttgart in a Württemberg derby, really close.

Sorry, I have not translated all state names correctly into English :) .

  • Schwerin has now 16 players registered for the league, but only 14 are allowed, obviously using two injury replacement berths to the max (setter and likely Marring too).
