USA - LOVB 2025 (League One Volleyball 2025)

  • A'ja Wilson owns a Bugatti and a Pagani Huayra how is that not much? Breanna Stewart has a huge deal with Puma. Even Angel Reese makes more money than some of her male counterparts.

You only knowing Clark is the extent of your knowledge but everyone has a better payout than you think they do. These women thrive and their bank accounts loaded.

I'm talking about their main salaries in the sport. and did you mention Angel Reese? the one who said she can't afford her rent due her salary being less than 80k? my point is their top salaries are paid to bench players in volleyball. which i expected more for basketball. and those people you mentioned do not represent the majority of the players. those with sponsorship deals are the FEW ones on top.

because it’s a league with a salary cap. Same with NWSL. They’re here to make money.

the only volleyball league (that I’m aware of) with similar rules is PVF. And they just overpaying and running at a loss for the time being. Same with LOVB.

most of the wnba players earn their money overseas. Or if you’re really good, via endorsements.

it’s the nature of the business. They don’t have organizations or governments or whoever shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to run at a loss via “sponsorships” like European volleyball clubs do (with the exception of maybe Conegliano who seems savvy enough)

They also don’t shell out a ton of money to rookies in a way to protect their franchises from busts. That’s why Caitlin, angel, whoever aren’t making that from the league. That’s the grind and business model they signed up for.

I see. although I've read somewhere that WNBA has always been at a loss? Will the USA volleyball leagues implement a WNBA-like style in the future?

There are a lot of sports teams that operate at a loss on a yearly basis. Several of them include NBA and MLB teams. MLS as a league was hardly profitable... they were kept afloat by two billionaires until recently.

Operating at a loss for a certain period of time is fine as long as there are signs of growth that will eventually turn into dollar signs (which is the path the WNBA is on)

LOVB is a whole different story. Their salary structure is already different (its more). They don't have near the publicity the WNBA had at any point of their lifecycle. They're injecting a ton of money into a product to then try to sell the product to investors (to buy individual teams) within 2-3 years. That's how LOVB will make their money in the short term, assuming it hits off.

But that's how start ups work here. Inject a lot of money into it, hope for a break... if it gets the break, good deal. if it doesnt, then the investors coup what they can and go find something else to work on.

LOVB doesnt have a big brother (NBA/MLS/etc) to lean on for publicity and financial comfort... But they do own and operate a ton of youth clubs that do provide financial stability on their other side of their business (LOVB Pro and LOVB Youth Clubs are distinct.... but LOVB Pro can run at a loss for a period of time (I think the CEO said five years) given LOVB Youth is successful)

I don't think they'll look to the WNBA as their model. NWSL is more likely, or perhaps the women's hockey league if they find success as well.

  • I thought AUB will fold after a year yet it's still going. so hopefully it's a good sign for the two other leagues. how does LOVB youth work, parents pay for their kids to play?

AUVB is a passion project run by a billionaire. its never going to make money. It's probably a tax write off for them.

Yea. It's the USA youth club system.

They pay dues/fees to clubs in order to compete in youth tournaments.

LOVB bought the clubs that the fees are paid to. So now LOVB Youth runs these clubs (which will be a stream of revenue). They share facilities with the pro teams (in the cities that also has a pro team).

  • Sophie Fischer is going to LOVB Salt Lake

Onye Ofoegbu is going to LOVB Atlanta. (dont ask me why they need another middle)

    Mruzik is going to Houston.

That leaves Franklin (Madison?) and Rodriguez (sending her to Omaha with JWO would be tragic)... plus whoever the sixth is.

I think sending Rodriguez to Madison (they dont need Medved or Wang) and Franklin to Omaha/Austin would be best case scenario.

  • Do you think they will keep XL rosters or someone is gonna end up in PVF or LVSF?

Stalzer was announced in PR by Cangrejeras de Santurce. Valeria Vazquez was drafted by Omaha Supernovas, but she has a deal with Criollas de Caguas.

    They're (LOVB) not cutting anyone.

I would like to see some players moved around.... like Atlanta has too many middles, Austin too many opposites... but it seems unlikely.

I dont think VVG will make Omaha's roster. They have Cooper/Nuneviller/Mirosavljevic (sp.) are their OHs... they'll keep Batenhorst for PR reasons. I guess she could make their "practice" squad thing but I find that dumb. Who wants to be here in the winter when they could be in PR lol

  • PVF coaches dont know what they're doing.

I think LOVB wants to make a concentrated effort to not have player burnout. They can rotate their players more easily than other leagues can.

But their season is not that long. And I suspect the coaches would rotate and not waste every player, that's impossible, every coach will have their start squad.

They'll have weekends with less than 24 hours between games. They'll have plenty of rotation. Kelsey didnt sign up to play the Japanese league schedule again :rolll::rolll: we'll get more vlogs about her knee pain lol

  • Lexi Rodriguez joining Omaha, waste of talent ;(
