USA - LOVB 2025 (League One Volleyball 2025)

  • 15 seems a bit average.

Plus there's a few players per team who... probably wont play at all lol

(the real answer is they didnt plan well lol)

I mean I get that and all but what's the point of signing 3 liberos or 5 MB's, it just all seems like a waste of good players, especially since we're struggling over here in Europe:whistle:

    oh lol

yea thats the bad planning. why would they sign Iga if they knew two NCAA players were coming (meanwhile austin and omaha only have three middles)

    mess!

  • What’s this anxiety about LOVB that I am reading lately on many threads. Some people think it is going to end the volleyball in Europe. Well, here is my two cents on this subject. It is awesome to have a league here at home. There is a big momentum at the moment for the women league, but I am cautiously optimistic about it. I think it is like a double edge, yes, it is good that some of the collage graduates can finally have a league to go here, but we may end up having a league like Brazilian where every year they go to WCC and lose against a European team (no disrespect intended). Look at players currently we have. Let me put it this way, currently the best Opp in the league, I believe is JT. Who could be considered as best an inconsistent player, who played for FB, Milano, Ezacibasi and VB. She had some real good games but also, she had many mediocre games. We don’t need Anna Haak but instead we should get Isabel Haak. Fabiano are you serious? Isn’t she retired long time ago? (Again, no disrespect intended) Looks like we have very young right out of college who could be a talented player, but also players that are old, and reaching their end of carriers type players.

It will affect in a bad way leagues like Polish or German leagues, but it will not affect Turkish league at all, on the contrary it will help the Turkish league because now any good player who plays for Polish, or German (etc.) leagues, they have to go to Turkish league. There are enough good players from Serbia, Russia or Bulgaria to play in Turkish league. I think it will solidify the Turkish league; in fact, it may even hurt US players because the US league may not be on the same level as Turkish or Italian leagues, as it is currently. So, I wouldn’t be so gloomy about top European leagues like the Italian or the Turkish leagues at all.

  • To be fair I think Polish and German league could try to look further than the US when it comes to players at a good level. There are many players who are unnoticed because they play in smaller league. I hope it will force teams to actually find those hidden gems (I hope but I don't get my hopes up)

You expect them to challenge leagues that have much longer histories in their first year? Their base pay alone is good enough. Any player will choose it than the Brazilian league for the pay alone.

What's worrisome is if it sells in the american market.

Espn just started showing NCAA volleyball and the viewership is awesome sp far. I hope that will carry over with the league.

  • What would the internet be without doom and gloom lol

We do not know how it will affect anything. I don’t think the top three teams in either league will care too much. They can buy whoever they want to.

I think it will have an effect on the depth of the leagues though. I mean the foreigners in the mid-low level of both Italy and Turkey are….. not good (looking at you Hilary Howe). Most of the LOVB players would be assets to these teams. It will make them be more creative or invest in young talent.

This is the hottest take to say on here but the level of the teams not named (insert top three/four teams from each league) is so over rated. The presence of good coaching staffs is so much more important. Athletes are spending much more time with them than they would playing against the best in the world. LOVBs coaches (minus Omaha’s… but let’s be honest it’ll be Larson coaching anyways lol) are all well credentialed (even more so than most of the coaches in Turkey/Italy besides the obvious).

the top Americans are still overseas. Skinner and Plummer being there is the most important right now (although, Ferhat tax). And it’s not like they all can’t fluctuate between the two, depending on if LOVB even survives.

this is a LA2028 end game for USA. Anything before that (WCH25/27) is just house money. Getting good training positions for Olivia Babcock, Kennedy Martin, and Logan Lednicky will be of the most importance.

I think it was only the finals were played on ABC and the ESPN; most other games were on ESPN+. And currently only ESPN+ will show the LOVB games. In a couple of years where LOVB has enough teams and if they could get big ticket players while they’re on their prime then it could affect the Turkish or Italian leagues as well. That is why I am cautiously optimistic. Let see where it’s going to go.

the ncaa finals were only on ABC. The R16/QF/SF were all on espn.

LOVB will have matches on TV on ESPN, the playoffs will all be on tv. But yes they’ll have ESPN+ games too

  • I am not sure even it will affect the low-level teams as well, since they could easily replace a mid-level player from other countries because they also have enough money to get those type players. However, I hope player like Olivia Babcock who I consider as the future of volleyball, will be on a very short list for the teams like Ezacibasi, VB, or Imoco.

  • They're playing with some adjusted international rules (which Kelsey isn't thrilled about)

You get 8 subs per set. Re-entry will be allowed.

Doubles aren't being called unless its the contact going over the net.

And then they'll have some "silly" rules for the cup tournament.

  • I know this is a bit out of topic but i dont know where to ask this. Where can i watch the LOVB matches if I live in Asia?

SPOTV will broadcast in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Macau.

If you're not there, LOVB Live (their website) will stream the all the matches? I think.
