Japan - SV.League Women 2024-2025

  • Well that is sad, she's only 21 and my favourite young player, eventhough I didn't have a chance to see much of her this season. I hope she can recover fully and continue playing...

She didn't play at all this season, and really hasn't played much for a year or more. I remember Coach talking about her back about a year ago when he was deciding if he should teach her how to back attack (the irony). Apparently it has gotten worse

  • Why the need for captains? is it another red and white battle

  • Amika Saiki appears to be out for the season. Will have surgery next month on her lower back. I don't know of any others who have had this kind of problem but I won't be surprised if she is done with volleyball

Seems a fair number of HS players over the gold standard height of 173cm who tried to single-handedly win for their team crash, at least for a little while, when they hit V.League. Megumi Fukazawa, Manami Koyama, Rui Nonaka to a degree, Valdes to a degree,

Was she just diagnosed with that this year or like this season?

Didn't Miya Sato also have back/spinal problems?

  • I remember there was a discussion here awhile back or was it in the NT thread about how players arch their backs too much I'm pretty sure Wada was mentioned. It has something to do with their forms that the archier (is this a term) the back the cleaner the hit (for short players) I don't know if that's scientifically true though

  • Was she just diagnosed with that this year or like this season?

Didn't Miya Sato also have back/spinal problems?

yes, about Miya, but I've no idea what either specifically is

I read a couple Seagull Fan blogger dudes and they have mentioned it several times over the past year, and mentioning the Coach talking about it--in terms of PAIN more than poor conditioning. It's unknown stuff, tho, either congenital or that she went to a small HS who probably had no trainers and played a one man wrecking crew and messed herself up

She's one the scouts missed if it is a training issue

  • Melissa Valdes appears to be playing the reception line this year. 22% Discuss

  • Haruna Yamashita always seemed like an interim player to me. Didn't feel very Denso, but she's rock solid now. Smart player

is it something new for her or a new low for her? i dont know her previous stats

  • i saw a video of ameze looking way too proud of herself for her pom and that's nice but she could honestly show a much better performance not to mention consistency. also it was jt tackling okayama so it's not like a big deal for her to be even mildly gloating like that.

  • is it something new for her or a new low for her? i dont know her previous stats

New for her to be on the receiving line

There is something whack with the way they are doing stats for reception this year tho. 22% seems to be about average

  • I don’t think this is necessary for her. Seems kinda forced

Agree. Maybe it's only temporary because Miyu Kawazoe is out? Either way Kawasaki is a better receiver and Melissa is a better scoring OP, so not sure why they didn't make that flip ... unless, this is for Melissa's "growth"?

Hopefully there will be a vbm post match interview and the coach will explain it

PFU has too many OPs. An import OP was completely unnecessary for them

  • 4 new NEC Red Rockets players from University

    • Haruka Hosokawa (setter, 165cm, Kaetsu)
    • Natsumi Kodama (libero, 168cm, Juntendo)
    • Misuzu Takahashi (OH, 170cm, Aoyama)
    • Naka Hasebe (MB, 175cm, Nihon)

sitenoise is this your favorite Misuzu? You'll probably hate her signing for NEC's bench then :rolll:

3 new Aranmare Yamagata players from University

    • Mao Ogawa (OPP, 174cm, Niigata Univ of Health & Welfare)
    • Maho Tanaka (OH, 167cm, Kobe Shinwa)
    • Yuka Yoshimura (OH, 177cm, Juntendo)

  • Gawd, such a stupid system

I didn't watch Kaetsu enough to have much of an opinion on Hosokawa (she did bring a team of nobodies to Bronze, tho) but those NEC picks are top Uni players at their positions, going to a team that doesn't need them and won't play them :wall: Natsumi Kodama is my favorite libero. She might prove to be an improvement for you :) Great leadership and has that Fukumoto twisty thing going on. I wish she went to Himeji but I'm okay with her on NEC. I think she takes Daikuzono's spot

On the other hand, good picks for Aranmare. Don't know Mao Ogawa but the other two might give Donphon a run. They're way better than anyone else they have

  • is this your favorite Misuzu?

yes, btw. A good receiving OP, good southpaw sinker serve, good defense all over the court

She reminds me of an OP version of Miyu Kawazoe, but better at floor defense

I like this hiring as well. I remember liking Kodama from the East Asia tournament. She's probably the only one in these 4 who can have playing time immediately.

Hosokawa and Misuzu are not surprising picks, although not as starters. NEC needs another setter, since idk maybe Yuka will retire back soon, or even Shiori is generally at age where most of these players retire. Misuzu will be there to replace Chinami some time soon, since she's not playing anyway.

Getting an MB below 180cm is so not NEC though, so maybe, Naka Hasebe will be used in another position like what they are doing now with Harashima training as Opp. Although they only have 5 MBs now and Shimamura might retire soon. They always need at least 5 since Yamada is going to NT in off season

I'm curious if they will still have recruits coming from High School (they just haven't announced since there's Haruko still) or this is it

  • Haha, the luxury of having a B Team for when your starters go off to the NT :rolll:

I'm curious where a couple other Aoyamaians will go and how they will fare in the big pants. Karen back at MB was great. She can block and hit from anywhere, but that goofyfoot thing :/ and their Captain Kako Yajima. She doesn't have the guts of her sister, but I like her a lot. Super sweet. She's one who better switch to OP, which she played pretty well when Misuzu wasn't 100%

  • Julian Chow I just watched the NEC/Aranmare match (with its horribly bad frame rate jitter :wall: ) because Haruko Sasaki played and I noticed something. She has a similar quality to Miiku Iwasawa (Saitama libero) who I love, in that she meanders around the court like a toddler  little baby steps. It's weird and I can't think of anyone else who does it
