Japan - SV.League Women 2024-2025

  • Julian Chow I just watched the NEC/Aranmare match (with its horribly bad frame rate jitter :wall: ) because Haruko Sasaki played and I noticed something. She has a similar quality to Miiku Iwasawa (Saitama libero) who I love, in that she meanders around the court like a toddler  little baby steps. It's weird and I can't think of anyone else who does it

Send me link, pronto... Can't wait to see this

It's all at volleyball world TV ... I just upped to the annual rate of 58 bux which is 5 bux/month and gets a ton of stuff (most of which I don't care about but you might) including past tournaments, so I'm good to go through all the summer U Squad/VNL/Club champs and the beginning of next SV.League season

Haruko has such a childlike innocence. I think during one of the timeouts when it was time to go she handed her towel to Yamada :rolll: can't be sure, but Yamada had a look :what:

  • Hitachi's translator has great rhythm. She's the best :teach:

  • Top Attackers (attack%) among JAPANESE OH/OPP as of December 01 games

    filter: 300+ attempts

    • Ai Kurogo (Saitama) - 42.3%
    • Saki Tanaka (Himeji) - 41.2%
    • Kotona Hayashi (Osaka) - 39.8%
    • Yukiko Wada (NEC) - 39.5%
    • Yoshino Sato (NEC) - 38.3%
    • Aki Meguro (Saitama) - 38.2%
    • Akane Ukishima (Kurobe) - 37.8%
    • Arisa Inoue (Himeji) - 37.7%
    • Haruna Yamashita (Denso) - 36.9%
    • Megumi Fukazawa (Saga) - 36.0%

Not included in the list, given fewer attempts but with high attack%:

    • Rui Nonaka - 42.0% (241 attempts)
    • Nanami Masaki - 41.1% (241)
    • Ruriko Uesaka - 41.0% (239)
    • Melissa Valdes - 41.0% (227)
    • Airi Furukawa - 37.5% (232)
    • Sae Nakajima - 36.9% (287)
  • I didn’t notice that the league had shifted to having more terminating local OPs. It used to be support/defensive role, except for Nagaoka. Now, they have Kurogo (sometimes), Wada, Furukawa, Valdes, Nonaka (sometimes), Hawi, Tanaka, and Yoshitake. Akimoto and Chuganji are next in line. I have a feeling that Akimoto will go to JT.

On the flipside, there’s now a shortage of young, tall, and “complete” OHs.

But if you're only going by attack rate without knowing their efficiency, that's not a surplus. No one wants fillers and Japan needs at least 2 beasts in the long run.

i.e. Nishida has a 56% attack rate with only 257 swings so a 40 with over 300 swings is error upon error upon error. ****I purposely included Nishida because if I had to use Antropova or Haak as an example it would be devastatingly low in comparison.

There has to be better options.

  • Amika Saiki appears to be out for the season. Will have surgery next month on her lower back.

I’m still really sad about this. Saiki is one of my favorites in the league. I haven’t been watching Okayama with her out. Saiki-Nakamoto young OH tandem was so good before. I hope she recover well and be back!

Why error upon error? Are you counting being dug as an error? Maybe I don't get what efficiency is. Kurogo made 13 errors on 319 swings. Rosamaria made 33 errors on 793 swings. That's about the same %. Van Hecke made 33 errors on 569 swings

Nishida made 17 errors on 382 swings ... that's about in line with Kurogo

  • Position Movement through 12 matches (max 16 played)

Denso and Osaka Marvelous are basically tied on wins (if Osaka wins 3-0), points, and sets ratio. Denso is basically 50 points ahead on points ratio. So Denso should still be leading after 15 matches.

Saitama is one point behind Osaka.

  • Gunma Green Wings with 5 new players from University

    • Mizuki Arai (OH, Kokushikan)
    • Moka Otomo (S, Kokushikan)
    • Riko Sato (MB, Juntendo)
    • Yasuha Nakano (OH (OP?), NSSU)
    • Koto Monta (OH (OP?), Tsukuba)

I don't know the Kokushikan girls but the others are pretty good. You know I love Koto. Both her and Yashua are solid receiving OPs but shorties  That's 25 players for Gunma, tho. They haven't figured out what to do with the ones they already have

Koto is the only one I know among these players, and she's a fun addition to the team :dance6: Maybe, some will go to Div 2 eventually in the next seasons.

  • Toray Coach keeps giving Manami Koyama a chance to have Okawa's spot and she keeps failing :white:

Rosa-Ball is unfortunate when it rears it's ugly head but it's not all the time like Sylvia-ball and Rosa can pass pretty well and doesn't jump into offense mode before the defense is finished. That's two big smooches from me :*

  • Himeji doesn't have the defensive thing going on at all. They're slow and uncommitted
