2025 FIVB Women's World Championship

  • the level will be lower with such amount of teams

  • Can someone explain why this championship is held 3 years after the last one? Shouldn't it be in 2026?

  • Can someone explain why this championship is held 3 years after the last one? Shouldn't it be in 2026?

FIVB decided that WCH will be held every two years and they didn't want to do it on Olympic years.

So we're going to have WCH 2025, 2027, 2029 etc

  • What about Continental ones, do they still every 4 years? We are going to have almost every year VNL + a Championship? Oh god this is getting exhausting. I think making it like every 2 years makes it lesser valuable like VNL somehow.

btw thank you for the answer

  • It seems that the schedule is exhausting, but there won't be qualifications tournaments for WCH and Olympic Games, plus World Cup tournament was cancelled for good, so most of the teams will play less games than currently.

Continental championships will be held every two years starting 2026.

  • I don't know, I don't like the idea of having the ECH then WCH next year, and then ECH again and again, it sounds like Boring to me i can`t hype about it. I hope Im wrong.

  • Judging by this format it seems likely that all the top teams will to make it to the round of 16 which is where the actual tournament begins, obviously barring any upsets

If we assume all the big teams will be top seeded in the 8 pools there will be 1 good team like DOM/NED/THA in each pool and the other 2 will be significantly weaker teams.

  • Is HK bidding as HK or as China? The HK team is pretty bad...

Not 100% sure but I'd assume it's Hong Kong independently as China is not mentioned in any sources. The PNVF president named Thailand, Hong Kong and Vietnam as bidders after they withdrew their bid in March (after they secured to host the men's tournament). Indonesia also submitted a bid to co-host it.

He also mentioned that the host would be announced at April 2024 but nothing was announced. Thailand is the biggest favourite to host it (as a single host) thus far but we could also have multiple countries hosting it.

  • Do I understand correctly that under: “There is also an unnamed country already tasked to host both 2027 championships.” the meaning is that the one country will host both, men’s and women’s WCH?

Yea. Philippines wanted to host both men’s and women’s tournament for 2025 but had to pull out from women’s due to ‘many changes and procedures’ as quoted by their federation president.

    Ok.

It was already announced by Polish Prime Minister in Sept 2023 that Poland will host Men's WCH 2027 so...

  • Apparently Vietnam has pulled out of the organization of the 2025 women world championships...

According to what was declared by the president of the Thai volleyball federation, AVC would like Thailand to organize the event...

The Thai federation has given its availability, subordinating it to the resolution of the internal political problems that the country is going through...

  • So vietnam is qualified? :win:

    IDK...

it will all depend on the FIVB ranking... If I'm not talking nonsense it should be the ranking of today 30 August 2024...

If I'm not mistaken, the remaining 16 teams that must qualify earn their place through the FIVB world ranking at the end of the FIVB season national team in the year preceding the World Championship, therefore: TODAY...

    Edit:

you're right... With Thailand being the organizing country and "official" qualified, Vietnam ranked 4th at the Asian championships, should be qualified regardless of the FIVB ranking...
