2025 FIVB Women's World Championship

  • Is Helena heading straight to Thailand?

    btw how is Kisy doing?

  • Wanted to watch Junior Pan American Games but YT got it geoblocked, I think I need to watch it live so as not to be geoblocked.

  • According to the latest announcement from the 🇻🇳 Vietnam Volleyball Federation, star opposite hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen has withdrawn from the World Championship roster due to personal reasons. With her last-minute withdrawal, Vietnam will compete with only 13 players.

Worth to mention, here are Bich reasons:

The reason for this decision is not due to a lack of desire to compete, but because of new requirements from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) regarding athletes’ eligibility to compete. For me, sports are not only about competition but also about respect and fairness. I feel that these new regulations lack transparency and the fairness necessary for athletes. I believe every athlete deserves to compete in an environment that is respectful and equal.

To protect my integrity and avoid unnecessary risks for the team, I have decided to withdraw. I will use this time to focus on training and preparing for future competitions. I believe that with proper preparation, the Vietnam team will continue to give their best and achieve new successes.”

  • New requirements.. yeah terrible fivb doesn’t let men participate in Women’s WCH, how they could do sth like that.. sorry guys, I know that the last time that topic created some drama, but let’s be honest, that’s ridiculous! Believe me that I don’t have anything agains trans people, I’m also gay, but men can’t compete alongside women! Vietnam should be ashamed of their practices, they probably wouldn’t even compete at the WCH without Nguyen presence over the last years.

If she has nothing to hide, where is the problem?

Assuming she is a trans, FIVB is open to trans people as long as their ormons stay within some levels. Tifanny can compete with women for example.

Again the only one to blame is FIVB for sleeping about it for like 3/4 years...

I don't think that's it. I think she is intersex and because it is such a wide variety of diffrent conditions sometimes there is a wide gray area

That would be an easier path for her to clean her position. Isn't it?

Hiding is not gonna fix anything. She could be out of NT for good. And I think she won't be ever able to play abroad. A pity.

I really hope I don't offend anybody, but that's exactly what I don't quite understand. Tiffany has gone through the whole transition process, has literally physically turned into a women, with the help of hormones of course, but her body matches her identity. For the Vietnam players this is quite the opposite in my eyes, they do look like boys/men, so it's hard to imagine them being transgender. And yes, I know, some women want to look like that and it's perfectly fine, but in the whole context of things, I fail to get a cohesive picture of the Vietnamese players in question :|

One of the most well-known cases in this area is Caster Semenya. The South African track and field athlete has female sexual characteristics, but a Y chromosome. The difference from Tifanny Abreu, mentioned above, is that she didn't acquire her female sexual characteristics through surgery. Caster Semenya's was due to a disorder causing the SRY gene to malfunction. For this reason, she never knew she wasn't biologically female. Caster Semenya is therefore not a transgender athlete like Tifanny Abreu, but rather a DSD (differences in sex development) athlete.

Why is there criticism of both transgender and DSD athletes? This is because both "mostly" experience male puberty. This gives them a performance advantage over biologically female athletes.

Finally, a final plea: We currently know far too little about these cases. As the Casper Semenya case shows, even if the Vietnamese athletes have a Y chromosome, it doesn't necessarily mean they are "men." Because they could be intergender athletes, like Casper Semenya, who previously identified as women and whose world is now collapsing due to these tests.

Not necessarily and especially in current political climat. I don't know her case so it's also hard to get into any detail however intersex people often share sexual characteristics of both sexes at birth and their identity gets chosen by the doctors or parents. So I can imagine a situation where she has lived her entire life as a women and at the same time because of her condition she can have XY chromosones and could never pass a test if FIVB conducts it (if she has one because once again we don't have any details). If that's the case I can see how she can feel uncomfortable after living her entire life as a women and having her gender be questioned. Also I would encourage everyone to have a little more tact when it comes to such cases. Majority of people don't know much about these topics and it's easy to jump to conclusions

  • I find it also strange that the other girls had nothing against with sharing locker room with such persons if they really are men...

I'm not a girl but I can't imagine them getting naked in front of each other like boys do when taking their shirts off and stuff. I mean locker rooms have cubicles for a reason
