Blengini's challenges

Wo dering if S. Nikolov will do a Nimir in the future and be converted to Opp.

Bulgaria

First time I've seen this team play. I see now why the Nikolov brothers are getting so much hype. They're so good. Crazy turn around toward the end of the tiebreak. Slovenia was leading for the most part and looked like they're going to win it but that crazy challenge from Blengini and an ace on Mujanovic turned things around
-
two comebacks after being 5+ points down to win the first two sets, more aces than errors in the second set and Ahyi being effective at clutch moments. Have we finally hired a sport psychologist or have Plak and Jorna just taken that roll on lol
Who is this team

Keemink is so used to Nimir-ball that his connection with MBs is worse than Berkhout's. Especially with having decent passing OHs he should use this more! Luckily today it was enough to win

-
This is definitely a combination of fatigue for Japan and other teams figuring them out.
Now they are eliminated, I believe that the fans will now pivot to the Bulgarian team. Moni and Alex are getting super popular.
Filipinos are fans of Brazil, Italy and USA.
-
I do not understand why Robinson in on the bench.

Was thinking the same! He is already scoring like 10 points per game. He is such a threat for opponent block even as a setter
-
Frankly outside of Ishikawa, Japan is such an incompetent team but their setters are especially the worst with Sekita gone. I don't think having Nishida there would've made a difference because Miyaura himself can sometimes surpass Nishida at scoring. The most overrated however is ran and people believing he's some kind of all rounder wonder boy like gabi is truly comical. His 15 mins are probably over

it's karma after vbw called miaura the french slayer
nobody milks mediocrity quite like vbw when it comes male japanese players -

I used to follow her and I'm actually surprised vbw took her in and she actually works with them now considering her knowledge of volleyball outside of Haikyu is non-existent. If you had to ask her a year ago she wouldn't even be able to name 10 vb players that aren't Japanese.

The fact that he is powerful nd she scores when he understands that the opposite block is vulnerable, hardly does it means that he will become OPP.
Despite this fact Nikolov is alreadly top level ( especially for his age) in his main duty. He has no reason to change position. Nimir could not play in the highest level as setter. That's why he changed.
-
Why would they change him position?
He's a younger version of Giannelli with incredible personality, power, blocking reach, setting reach; hands could be better and pure setting is not as good as legends like Ball, Grbic, Vullo and so on, but the rest is out of this world. He has way bigger potential than Giannelli. I was surprised italian clubs didn't try to sign him this summer and he ended up in Russia. Expecially when his brother already plays for a top club.

Gianelli, Sbertoli, Porro and Boninfante. Unfortunately ( for the foreigns) as long as Italy has so many good local setters the opportunities for foreigns in Italian top clubs will be limited. Then it's the money. Probably he received offers but money are also important.

Bulgaria is such a delight to watch. Moni is changing the game, even if he makes some silly mistakes every now and then. He is unpredictable at the net; to think this bloke is still a teenager. He could become one of the greatest. Alex Nikolov is one of the best OH in the world at the moment, in the same tier as Ale and Fornal. He is so clutch, doing so much work at pos 4 at the net and pos 1 in backrow, cleaning up messes but still expected to receive and defend. It’s obvious these brothers have a unique connection. Petkov and the captain are doing great work at the net. If this team can learn a little more resilience, I can see them winning a medal this WCH. Oh and one of the hidden figures at the centre of this Bulgarian success is Blengini - the coach every team deserves!

Of course it doesn't mean he will 🤦 we are talking about that he might take the same route. He is like orro, doing everything else than setting in a very top level. His fingers aren't as precise as any of top setters but he contributes the game so much in other elements that he could be monster as Opp. But it is just a wishful thinking. I personally think he could be even a better Opp than a setter.
By the way nimir was already playing at high level as setter in good clubs. Their situations are very comparable

Nikolov with Orro???? Not even close. Nikolov is high level in everything and in setting. Mostly in setting.
-
Oh and Japan, wtf. Three observations:
1. Japan misses Sekita - this backup setter was awful in VNL and even trashier in WCH2. Miyaura shares only two things with Nishida - left-handed and Japanese. But Nishida brought the team to another level
3. Ran should spend less time worrying about his hair colour and checking it during the match and more time on volleyball.

No he isn't, his setting is worst skill unfortunately. I'm not saying he is a bad setter but particularly setting is not his strongest suit

Sekita's role is underrated on this japanese team. I can't believe there are people saying that setter isn't the problem of Japan for this disappointing result🤦
