2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship

  • Now that France is out I’m looking for a new favourite team that’s gonna win the World Champs. Poland? USA? Any suggestions?

Toniutti, Ngapeth and Le Goff announced their retirement from NT.

I’ll miss Toniutti and Le Goff 😢 it was to be expected from Toniutti, he rarely played anymore and sometimes was only brought in for 1 point per set. Won’t miss Ngapeth, haven’t missed him in ages. His skills aren’t what used to be.

  • WCH should be every 4 years + 6 teams per pool.

  • I think that 25x11 set for Brazil vs Czechia will matter on who gets to the next round

  • I'm not following the tournament very closely but all these results are just crazy :white:

IMO this tournament shows even more than women's tournament how mad and flowed this formula is. Basically every match is like a final, one bad match and you can be eliminated. That's not what a World Championship should be like

I was going to say the same. In some ways, it has an advantage for players because it's less exhausting and lower ranked teams are able to participate but like you said, teams can't afford to lose matches leaving no room for teams to grow during the course of the tournament. But I prefer the old formula because teams get to play with more teams compared to the current one.

  • May I suggest rooting for an underdog, this way you can never be disappointed and they can use some extra love  Belgium and Turkiye are up there for sure!

This WCH is the tournament of the underdogs!

Group stage is not bad, the only problem is that host is seeded as #1 and elimination round is not balanced.

Elimination round is a really bad system.

This WCH shows that the competition in men’s vbll is wide open.

  • The only thing I like about this crazy WCH every 2 seasons is the new formula of the tournament. All games matter.

Hopefully they can go back to play every 4 years with this formula. The post-Olympic WCH will always be this crazy otherwise.

In women's Olympic games we've had several times 4th ranked teams from preliminary pools winning Olympic gold IIRC. With such a formula as in WCH this would be completely impossible. Usually teams would improve throughout a tournament to be in best shape in the final matches, but now they need to be in best shape in their first match and might be completely worn out by the finals.

  • I lol'ed at the WebVolei article saying Brazil has the easiest path among the pools. okay bye!^^

  • Yikes. Too many contenders dropping like flies! It's the craziest WCH I've ever watched. Japan, Germany, France, and Brazil all not making the next round. It's so unthinkable for such results to happen. :white: All of them are big disappointments but I think Brazil is the biggest one because they're a permanent fixture at the semis for ages but now, they're already eliminated at just the first round.

  • Ughh, sucks for Brazil. Matheus Pinta who is better than Judson and Flavio did not get to play. Lucarelli needs to take his time off the NT starting next year.

Edit: Poland vs USA it is for the finals for me.

  • TBH, I'm fine with it - if people want consistency, you'll get the Women's WCH and people are also not happy with that.

It just so happened that this is by far the most unpredictable championship in a while with 4 out of the Top 10 teams making it (POL, USA, SLO, ARG) with some of the tightest and loosest pools (Pool A with two below 20 teams, and a lot of Pot 2 (TUN, TUR, BUL, POR) and even a Pot 3 Quarterfinalist (TUN) teams rising to the occasion). It is fun in its own special way lol.
