2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship

  • Now that France is out I’m looking for a new favourite team that’s gonna win the World Champs. Poland? USA? Any suggestions?

I’ll miss Toniutti and Le Goff 😢 it was to be expected from Toniutti, he rarely played anymore and sometimes was only brought in for 1 point per set. Won’t miss Ngapeth, haven’t missed him in ages. His skills aren’t what used to be.

I see several formidable dark horses worthy of wagering some bets:

Belgium looks strong and they are peaking at the right moment, with leadership by Reggers, support from Deroo and Rotty and excellent libero work.

Bulgaria is a delight to watch with Moni changing the game. And the best outside hitter in the tournament, his brother Alex scoring in situations where he has no right to score. Also with strong mids!

Poland didn’t fall victim to the same fate as the other top teams… but Fornal doesn’t seem healthy and I wonder how long Kurek can maintain this form.

Türkiye is playing incredibly well, seem much more disciplined than in VNL and are THE dark horse of the tournament.

    I am hoping for a Belgium-Bulgaria final!

  • Now will WCH comeback to Manila in the future? lol

  • I can’t believe Serbia made it but not France or Brazil lol

  • In women's Olympic games we've had several times 4th ranked teams from preliminary pools winning Olympic gold IIRC. With such a formula as in WCH this would be completely impossible. Usually teams would improve throughout a tournament to be in best shape in the final matches, but now they need to be in best shape in their first match and might be completely worn out by the finals.

That's because we have less pools in the OGs, usually 2 pools of 6 teams (3 in the last edition).
In the WCH we have 8 pools of 4 teams, which means we have 8 tier I (1-8 seeds), 8 tier II teams (9-16 seeds) and so on... those 4th ranked team in the OG pools would be 1st or 2nd ranked in teams in the WCH pools.

For my very personal taste, this formula is better. Way more crucial games and fun. In the OG pool phase you already know 3 of 4 eliminated teams...

Brazil, France, Japan and Germany have a different opinion :gone: Brazil lost one match and are out of top 16 in WCH, for me this is just not a fair formula.

  • Even in Dreams such Final wont happen.

  • Embarrasing for Brazil. They have went onto the finals of WCH since the 80s.

  • Same fate for Brazil Senior and U21.

Both men’s teams were eliminated in group stage while both women’s teams got a chance for gold but settler for bronze

  • unpopular opinion perhaps but countries who aren't in the top 10 in the world ranking shouldn't host. ph can't gloat about "fans" anymore when ticket sales plummeted and their expected revenue didn't even meet even half of what fivb projected

Womens volleyball is more popular here in the Philippines than Men’s but our womens team sucks.

Cebu City will be one of the hosts for Women’s VNL in 2026-2027

  • Yes, if everything goes this way, you’re right. But every match is different, and an outstanding performance in the preliminary round doesn’t guarantee the same performance in the knockout stage

Isnt Thailand Women’s not in the Top 10? But a lot of fans showed for the Women.

  • Congrats to all the top dogs and underdogs making it through! :box: I love how 3/4 matches of the 1/16th round could have been QF worthy but NL - TUR, TUN - CZE, BEL - FIN and BUL - POR will surely guarantee us some nice surprise quarterfinalists! Also these results have already made me watch more MWCH than I was planning to :cheesy:

  • Giving top seed for weak team is problem, not number of fans

    which weak team?

  • Thailand and Philippines are latest examples

well based on Philippines' performance they arent weak.
