  • Last Year's Top 4:

  • Will all the players have the same hair style like the high school girls? :mirror:

No, Uni is when they start experimenting with

The coverage sux big time tho, except for a gym or two where it only sux little time. Until the QFs. One stationary end court camera, so if you don't know the players you won't learn any very much. It's a tragedy. No faces whatsoever

  • Uh oh, for one thing UNIVAS will only start broadcasting at the 3rd Round. For another thing, it may be that it is no longer free, gotta do Plus

    放送はJ SPORTSにて12月1日の男女3位決定戦および決勝の模様を生中継。配信に関しては、3回戦よりUNIVAS Plus(ユニバスプラス)で配信される予定となっている

The men's and women's third-place playoffs and finals will be broadcast live on J SPORTS on December 1.The third-round matches will be streamed on UNIVAS Plus

    Fuck :cursing:

    getsu

  • Starts tomorrow. First two rounds are not being broadcast :cursing:

UNIVAS will pick up the 3rd round and quarterfinals. It's unclear what will happen for the SF and Final because JSports got them. I imagine they will be vod after the match on UNIVAS, but don't know if they will be free

So if Tsukuba doesn't make it to the 3rd round then I won't be seeing my Niina Kumagai in action? :cursing:

  • So if Tsukuba doesn't make it to the 3rd round then I won't be seeing my Niina Kumagai in action? :cursing:

Correct, and what's weird is they play the team they played in the semifinals last year on day 1 . I have no idea how they came up with that draw. It means a bunch of silly teams will make it to the 3rd round while ONE of the semifinalists from last year won't. There are other examples of this kind of thing

  • I was looking for promising youngsters here, aside from Niina and Akimoto, to follow as they go through college and progress to the league. I thought maybe Baba or Chuganji, but then realised they're16yo and still in high school. It would be great if you can throw some light on this, looking at the list below... the Japanese team at the Asian u20 event in the summer :)

Edit: Just a few, maybe 4 to 6 players who are in the this competition :/

  • Edit: Just a few, maybe 4 to 6 players who are in the this competition :/

Niina and her libero teammate, Rinka Inoue, are the only two Uni Girls on that list. The rest are HS

or have already joined V.League (Miina Inoue SAGA, Ichiyo Ito NEC, Riri Kasai Kariya, Anna Uemura PFU)

Most of the "promising youngsters" go from HS to V.League. Finding Uni girls to enjoy is a thing unto itself (Niina and few others notwithstanding

The girls who played the Eastern Zonal are a pretty good snapshot of top Uni Girls

Rin Honda is def one to fix your gaze upon. I also like Juntendo's libero Natsumi Kodama and hope she lands a good V.League gig next month. As you can see most of them are not 4th year

Aoyama has a lefty OP I like Misuzu Takahashi

Nihon has a couple: OH Maaya Ino and MB Naka Hasebe (Maaya is a freshman, Naka's 4th year and if she keeps playing VB will likely join a team that needs a good short MB :white:

When the matches start streaming tomorrow if I think of more when they come on I'll let you know

  • As for teams to watch and enjoy: Tsukuba, Aoyama, TWCPE, and Ryukoku are playing in the Empress Cup next month. One of them will likely win this, unless NSSU has something to say about it

I can't say much about Ryukoku because they play out west and I don't follow it much, but they are the only "Kansai" team that has a chance against the "Kanto" teams

My Fukuoka (who just got eliminated by Ryukoku tonight :( ) team this year is Meikai. They play Shenanigan ball, and have one of the most exciting players in all of Uni-land for me: #2 OH Aimi Tsuzuki (she played a year in Vietnam)

Nihon might have an unlikely shot

My underdogs I'm rooting for are Juntendo and JF Oberlin. All depends on the draw. It seems odd to me this year

I just noticed that TWCPE plays Ryukoku tomorrow so one of them won't make QFs, while a few crap teams will. Also NSSU plays Tokai so one of them won't go (although Tokai isn't that good this year, so it better be them who goes home :) )

  • This is how Shenanigan Good Meikai is. They don't settle for a 3 set win. They take it to four:

I don't know what time they actually start but they will be streamed at UNIVAS. I think first 3 matches will be at 11:00 JST. The second three 2 1/2 hours after that, and the last two at 2 1/2 hours after that

Everything could be an hour earlier, so stay alert

Matches of the night will be

Meikai v Juntendo ::: Two of my favorites that are really only at the level of troublemakers not contenders. Super sad to see one of them not make QFs

Ryukoku v TWCPE ::: Ryukoku's been winning everything in Kansai League the past couple years. Will be the best chance for a California Team to pull an NIFS, but I don't think they are that good. TWCPE is really good but also capable of complete meltdown

Everything else is pretty easy and predictable with the left hand column winning

  • Yep, started an hour earlier. Things are underway at UNIVAS

  • Tsukuba on the near side of the court for set 2 so you can tell who's actually playing by the numbers on the back of their shirts :white:

Same for Aoyama, who lost their first set to Kobe Shinwa. Buckle up girls

Same for Kaetsu, another troublemaker team at best but they are really happy to be here so they are fun to watch. They should clobber the team they're playing

I hate it when all the teams I want to watch more are all on the same court rotation

  • Aoyama buckled up. 15–3 to start set 2, on a major service run by my girl Misuzu who's got one of those cool southpaw sinkers :rose:

[-] Misuzu closes out the set 25–10 with another ACE

  • This is cool. Oberlin's got Tsukuba into overtime :box:

    rats. reverse jinx :white:
