Aoyama freshman is killing it and this overtime business is killing me

71st All Japan Intercollegiate Women's Championship 2024

The digging in this match is insane
... but the blocking isn't
-
Damn, I wanted Aoyama to win because they smoked more crack and were happier
Nothing against Tsukuba tho -
what a match...
You couldn't ask for more
-
... but the blocking isn't
I don't like blocking that much. Prevents digging and often ends the rally
-
Tsukuba's libero and OP are graduating, but the MBs have one more year, Niina, Akane, and Big Tank have two more years
-
If there was coverage like this for both Kanto Tournaments and all of this one I wouldn't need any other volleyball

The final is exciting and entertaining but it is cruel as well. The two teams were closely matched, but there can be only one winner. In fact Aoyama had stronger attackers... but its not just about attacking, there's defense, variations, stamina, strategy and a bit of luck thrown in. Tsukuba also has Niina who directs the flow of play like a traffic police, or an orchestra conducter, and whose setting skills remind me of Nootsara Tomkom the Thai legend. It's a pleasure watching this special young talent play.

I didn't really notice Emili bringing that much game, but there you have it. Tokai played a lot of Urara-ball
In case anybody questions/wonders why Tsukuba libero snagged MVP, it seems to be a rule that Team Captain wearing jersey #1 gets the MVP Award (same for Dare Fighter). Niina has to wait a couple years -

Niina has to wait a couple yearsI think everyone knows Niina is the outstanding player here and the one who did the most to win the C’ship for her team. The award ceremony at the end of the match says it all. It must have been a special moment for her... and just watching it gave me great satisfaction. It was a joyous, memorable occasion for me too

It's a weird tradition. You have to be a senior (to wear #1). I think I told you about Miho Yokota (over Minami Mandai) winning MVP when she didn't even play
The only Uni team I can think of who didn't have a senior wearing jersey #1 is a few years ago Reina Kawasaki (PFU) was Captain as a freshman. Don't remember her # but it wasn't #1. I guess that was their way of saying "we're not planning on winning" -
UNIVAS is taking their sweet time getting the VODs up for SFs and Final. It's such a crime they stuck with the crummy single stationary end of court camera until the Final
Speaking of awesome coverage that no one will care about except me, the 9-Ball SFs and Final are beautiful 1080 proper frame rate multi-cam zoomin like a mofo cool

My guess is that the SF and Final will never be seen again
The UNIVAS deal is that on their free plan you can watch VOD for one week after broadcast. It's now been a week and they never became available for free on the web. I imagine they were available to free users who use the app
Still says "preparing for missed distribution" but I've stopped holding my breath -
It's official. The SF and Final went straight to UNIVAS PLUS
QuoteJapan is taking everything I love the most away from me, one by one, year after year
V2 streams - goneHugh School matches behind a paywall
Summer League - gone
Empress Cup Block Round - No streams
National Sports Festival - A little sketchy
No streams of the first two Rounds of All Japan Uni and shit coverage until the Final only, and now no VOD
Kurowashiki up in the air given SV.League's schedule
Foreigners taking over V.League to become the best league in the world
Way to grow the game Japan. I mostly enjoy the U-Squad stuff now but I think my love affair with Japanese volleyball is not long for this world
