Serbian Women's NT 2025 - The Hour of The Boss

  • Assuming stevanovic and popovic are assumed, don't you guys have anyone else as 4th mb except kocic? She is not bad but kinda meh for me. Especially considering Serbia has tradition of always having great players at this position for last two decades.

Everyone here know about my opinion on Busa but this time she really no business to be in NT after terrible season in Aras and now just vacationing in Greece😂

By the way how is lozo doing this season? Is she totally out of picture?

I feel like Kocic is perfectly reasonable for a fourth option tbh. She’s a very solid player especially in block. She isn’t some world class star but perfectly fine as a fourth option

  • I totally forgot about Kirov :sos:

She deserves NT call for VNL and to play 1-2 games against easy opponents. Idk how she does it without putting hands over the net but she is great blocker.
With Osmajic and Kurtagic being 2003/04 generation, I don’t think there is a place for another youngster. My guess is Kocic or Popovic will for sure make it to top14 unless Terzic decides he doesn’t need 4th MB.. even then I guess Osmajic would be out if she doesn’t show some absolute monster performance in VNL (which I’m hoping she will)

  • ,

I really like this team. I think that Mikenkovic will also have a place in the team. I truly believe that Serbia will probably be the favorite for the WCH with this team.

  • Finally with some time to comment on most important topic for me

Ideal 14 squad (considering everything, current shape, connection with other players, potential, long term plan, and reasonable factors)

    Ognjenovic/Perovic

    Boskovic/Bukilic

    Uzelac/Lazovic/Ivanovic/Tica

    Aleksic/Kurtagic/Osmajic/Popovic

    Jegdic/Pusic

Some hot takes and player of personal interest

Ognjenovic in NT is not ideal and wouldn't be my personal choice, but considering reasonable factors she probably will be in (though with her current shape maybe we are not that screwed as everyone (me including) thought at first hand).

Perovic is my favourite setter among youngsters since Balkan championship 2019, and after solid season in such a league as Serie A, she have to be integrated in a team ASAP.

I would definitely make a clear cut in our OH lineup, so Busa/Lozo/Milenkovic, thank you but no thank you, but i expect at least one of them among 4 OH's, probably Lozo instead of Ivanovic, still i'm manifesting this 4 players as mentioned above 🙏.

Popovic have good season in Russia, and have great connection with Maja, these two are deadly attack combo, having in mind Kurtagic attacking abilities which are still far from being great, having Popovic on bench could be an X factor in competition like WCH.

Miljevic, Taubner, Kocic, Gocanin would love to see in VNL for sure.

  • I fully agree with list above.

Bjelica is one of the players that also need to go and make a room for fresh blood.

Adding Cikuc, Punisic, Cajic(wild card), Medved, Zelenovic to make a 20+ wide list would also be nice touch.

  • this roster is definitely a contender to win the competition if Lazovic continues to shine and Uzelac can be a solid scorer. Both I think can happen but part of that is on Ognejnovic not them. She needs to be willing to use them

  • Are we absolutely sure Maja is playing this year? ;( I mean... We have to cut her loose at some point. I'd be more than willing to sacrifice this year (WCh doesn't mean much anyway now that it's held every second year, which, SCREW YOU, FIVB) if that's going to make a more solid foundation for the future. We need to start thinking about LA, like, yesterday.

I'm in two minds about Brankica as well. Sure she can be helpful IF she's perfectly physically fit. But then again, she won't last long either. With her, Tijana could maybe finally have a decent replacement (assuming Bjelica is gone, and I'm gonna SCREAM if Terzić calls her again), for a little while, but maybe it would be better to start investing in Taubner for the long run.

For me, Uzelac, Lazović and Tica need to be locks on the OH positions. I'm guessing Buša has gone full on Malešević on us and will just fade into the sunset. We KNOW Terzić won't have a full kindergarten team, but if there has to be one more experienced player on the team, I'd take Lozo over Milenković any day. It's doubtful that Terzić would too, though.

Aleksić and Kurtagić are locks, that's for sure. Osmajić needs to be there as well. And I'd really want to see Kocić instead of Popović on the team. I really do feel there's much more potential in Kocić waiting to be unleashed if only she really believed in herself and someone needs to be push her in the right direction.

Popović has only had one really good tournament with the NT and that was ECh '19, she's done fuck all the rest of the time, so she can stay away as far as I'm concerned. Stevanović is a goner, of course.

I have no ideas about liberos.

And Čikuc, Zelenović and the likes will never be more than, I dunno, Ana Lazarević back in the day, only there to make up the numbers. Just the way it is.

  • If managed correctly, Serbian volleyball can get back on track as a world power. Guidetti ruined the team. One thing, what is the issue between Stevanovic and Coach Zoran? Because I remember she left the national team when she was in her prime and only returned when Santarelli called her up? I read that there was a communication issue? But not really any other details. For sure tho, Aleksic and Kurtagic is a solid blocking duo, Kurtagic is young and has time to improve her attacking but her blocking is solid.

She wanted to skip 2019 NT season, apparantely she told that to him, but he didn't agree with that (he thought that she is too short with the NT and it is not deserving such a treatment) so he counted her not appearing on first day of preparation as her refusal, and he has principe that who refuse to play will not be called again.

I see. Definently safe to say she's probably out then.

  • I think the real reason was that she was upset for losing her position in the starting line-up to Veljković.

It wasn't much of a loss because Maja could never really set for her. Her best NT performance by far was WCh '22 when she played with Drča.

  • Today is March the 8th, a very important day in Serbia. The best volleyball player of all time was born today.

A gift from volleyball gods for international women day for sure.

    Happy birthday dear Captain! <3
