I didn't know Carutasu could speak Turkish very well
She moved to Türkiye at 12 and did both middle and high school there, so there you have it...

Amazing week from young Turkish team!👏👏👏👏👏
Santarelli: very smart roster composition. He gave opportunities to everyone and let them show what they are capable of. I like that he always combined youngsters with a few veterans like Hande, aslı, simge etc. with this way, young players dont crumble under pressure. He get 4th win as his 44th birthday gift today
Setters: Elif isn't at her best shape but I think she played decent. To me, Dilay is the shining star of the tournament. She should be in the roster with cansu next week so that Elif can also take some time off.
Liberos: Simge was good, same for Eylül. I'm happy that Santa gave up on Ayça and looking for alternatives. I'm not fully sold on Eylül yet but she played decent
Opp: Carutasu was the only real opp we had this week (Derya, yaprak and Ayşe played as Opp in double subs) carutasu had a fantastic performance in china game. She showed up when it mattered. She was decent in other games as well. She is totally a different type of Opp than Vargas. She has good ball control, her tips and roll shots worked really well. Also she get a lot of points from serves and blocks.
Middles: I was a bit doubtful with asli's presence in the roster but today's game showed us that an experience player like her was needed to step up at clutch times, her blocks were so good during our comeback from 24-20
Deniz uyanık was another revelation of the tournament, she was great at blocking every set she played and scored a lot with attack as well. Berka was okay but I think she didn't show her full potential yet.
OHs: the position made me happy the most! Hande totally redeemed herself after a bad start . She was one of the best outsides of first week (if not the best) not only her offense was insane but also her defense from position 6 is at a very high level (I would say comparable to Sylla/bosetti). Yaprak was amazing, she is such a fighter, she finds a way to score even with bad sets/OOS sets. Her reception has room for improvement but I like her attitude on court and 'volleyball IQ'. Saliha was very good too, she received very well and scored with a good ratio. Derya got the least chance to play due to her injury but at first game she was decent.
Very curious who will play in Istanbul at next leg. My pick would be:
Cansu-Dilay
Vargas-Ebrar
Ilkin-Yaprak-Hande-Meliha
Jack-Zehra-Deniz-Berka
Gizem-Eylul
Im actually fine to play with same roster and let A team to play 3rd tournament and finals but since turkey is hosting, I'm sure federation would push the iconic players like Vargas, Zehra, Ebrar etc. I hope eda is skipping whole vnl![]()
I like that Carutasu got to play each match. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but was there a rule that she couldn't be in the roster with Vargas together or did that expire/was that just a rumour? If it's still the case, getting her to play as much as possible until you "need" Vargas in the squad is very smart. She's indeed not comparable but she showed that in case Vargas were to be not able to join a tournament, she can be a good alternative! Especially with attacking MBs to share the load

A good summary.
So nice to see that, the new generation is very promising. Alexia, Deniz, Eylül and Yaprak were the outstanding players for us and still Berka and Dilay were passed this exam however, all I can say that, Alexia, Eylül, Deniz and Yaprak almost guaranteed their spot in our NT. Dilay's single handed set at the final was very professional and amazing.
I don't know what makes you think and being hesitant about Eylül but she was amazing. Even though she received total 13 balls in two matches, she managed very well with very high quality, 77% pos and 62% Perf and 22 digs with 67% success. In her 1st time presence in such a tournament is absolutly amazing. More important is that, all the 2nd balls she has got, passed for attack excellently and almost all these balls were killed by the hitters. Not only that, but she payed a key role in Galatasaray, for winning the 4th place. After the 1st quarter of the season, I have clearly mentioned that in other forum that, she really deserves the NT and has a very bright future. She keeps going with consistency. Glad to see that, this is happening. She really deserves this spot in NT.
Carutasu was good in almost all matches, even against Thailand, who made her crazy with defense but she managed with additional scores in Blocks and Serves with 9 points. She played a key role in the 5th set for winning the match against Poland and nothing to say additionally about her performance today.
So far, Deniz is not arguable at all. Shining and shining.
Yaprak was also very very good at reception with 50% pos and 37%perf very good at attack with 45% kill and 33% Eff but with 24 digs and %80 success. Just amazing. She was more succssful than Hande. Not much ups and downs, very consistent and overall, I consider her better than Hande, in terms of consistency almost in all areas. If she manages her blocking performance and club her overall performance with experience, then she will be almost perfect.
Only disappointment was Ayçin. Sad for her. Ayşe's ceiling is not high for these high level matches yet but even though she tried her best. She needs to keep going on for next year...
About 2nd week, not sure if İlkin will be able to join. Still unclear.
Not sure about Jack. In this new fast play system, it seems like, Aslı is a must. I am really curious about Santa's preference at MB line.
Overall, Alexia, Eylül, Deniz and Yaprak+Dilay... Welcome to NT

That was until last year, now after 2025 they can be both in squad at the same time, however i dont see her as a Sub for Vargas, they both have different game style, Vargas is with more High balls and power spikes, where Carutasi plays much faster with lower balls and so many tipps. I think it would create a big room for team to change playing style instantly to confuse opponents.
You need to consider Alexia, Vargas and Jack Kısal at the same time....

Good to know, thank you!
I agree that they don't fit well in the same match squad, they should have either one or the other with them for a full week/tournament
Yeah there is a problem, when Jack Kisal and Carutasu wants to be there at the same time. However i really thing we dont need Jack though, she could help a lot of course but she is already 30 years old, other young middels are also doing well.
Good to know, thank you!

I've read on somewhere that Jack can only play after mid July, I don't know how reliable the date is and where it comes from but if true, she could still play in wch. I think she could help more than Carutasu as long as Vargas is healthy. Jack could replace both eda and Zehra during a long tournament like WCh. I still consider Ebrar as opp until she proves herself in club season
I like Jack but I also agree that there are several other MBs doing a fine job. I think this week also showed the depth they have on OH position... some interesting tactical choices to be made for Santarelli!

Cansu-Dilay
Vargas-Alexia
Zehra-Deniz-Asli-Berka
Hande-Yaprak-Meliha-Ilkin/Derya
Simge-Eylul
Simge will definitely be in the squad because he is the captain during the VNL![]()
Watching a game from the 90s, I realized that Caratasu reminds me of Leila Barros, not as powerful, but just as intelligent in her plays and ball control.

And more higher than her with 188-190cm with higher reach. Just ignore her hight as 183cm which was reflected during the matches.
it is Italy's thread, off topic but Hande is the best OH we have, she should be starter for sure and Dilay-Cansu should be our setter duo.
Also someone said none except Japan played good in the first week. Türkiye played really well in week 1. We tried almost all of our new players and win all games with a good performance.
To avoid off topic, I'm replying you here.
Although hande has been amazing last week, to me ilkin is the best OH we have considering her season in a leading role in GS. She can receive and attack as much as hande but she is getting less blocked at clutch moments unlike hande does.
I agree on Dilay, she should be our starting setter and prepped for 2028 LA, I don't mind either Cansu or Elif being her backup. Both has their strength and weaknesses

ı dont agree with you, ı cant see anything İlkin can do better against İtaly İmoco Vakıfbank Brazil than Hande. She maybe a bit better attacker but thats all. Also İlkin play worse in big games than Hande but ı hope santa gives her more chances.
İlkin - Hande can be our starting duo. 2 players will play in the starting6 not one lol
You can not compare Hande with Sylla. Sylla had a massive contribution to Italy's successes ( even in her messy era) while Hande is always really bad in semifinals and finals.
can be said she is the MVP of two OG qualifiers
She was one of 2-3 Turkish players that played well in Paris.
helped a lot in defense and reception in Eurovolley Gold also was the best Oh we have in 2019 and 2021 eruovolleys. she played ok in that torunaments and we won silver and bronze.
She has ups and downs in the VNLs but I still trust Hande if she can stay healthy.
the player should not we trust is Ebrar. I hope Santa does not think Ebrar is like our number 2 star as many people see.

She is sure a high level player and apparently you can not write off a player like her but when it comes to her performing in NT ( only if key matches) I can say that I have more bad than good memories. For instances: Εurovolley 2019 final, eurovolley 2021 semifinal, Olympics 2021 vs Korea, Eurovolley final 2023 vs Serbia ( and I do not count her performances on the last Olympic in semi and the bronze medal match because she had some injury problems , if I remember right) Her overall contribution is important, it is impossible to deny that but usually she can not handle the pressure in the most crusial matches and that's all ( not that it is a rule and that she fail in 100% but that's what happened in the past). For example, little do people will remember that Bosetti was worst than her usual standarts in the Olympics but everybody will remember that she was amazing in final, hence when it most mattered ( this is how usually works).
I would like to try Ilkin and see how she can play under preasure. Apparently you know that she performs great in TL, therefore I think that her era as starter in the NT must began.

Of course ilkin-hande should be our starting OHs. Ive replied you because you said hande is our best OH and thats the part I disagree with you. To me, ilkin has been in a better shape whole season. Hande has more experience in NT so ilkin needs time to show her true potential. Hopefully this season will be her season to prove herself on international level. I expect her to play even better now after removal of screws from her previous knee surgery.
I agree on Ebrar part, she should be considered as back up opp for double sub. We have two good setters who can alternate each other
