Türkiye Women's NT - 2025

  • How do you recognize Alexia Karutasu? Do you think she could be a proper sub for Vargas?

Carutasu offers a totally different game style. she is less physical and athletic than Vargas but she is definitely more technical. A lot of nice tips, she is a better blocker. Her service is also not very behind of Vargas. I just don't know how she would react under pressure. Vargas delivered very well at clutch times last two years. Not sure if carutasu can do the same but she definitely need to get tested during the finals to see if she can deliver under pressure or she will crack? I'm happy that Santa gave jack a fair chance to prove herself but considering current performances, carutasu deserves the call over jack for finals

I'm curious if she could be a regular double sub and do something.

    In case Vargas stop, YES.

Totally agree with your comments about her style and performance in different areas. Her performance in the whole league season and 1st week of VNL, she proved that she can react under pressure. Especially China match was one of the unforgettable match for everyone and especially for her. I was about to have a heart attack while watching. Both teams very well deserved a big applause. None of the players on two sides gave up, until the last moment. That was a great exam for all but especially for her.

Of course, every player might have ups and downs and she might also have as others but being underrated along with some others by someone, does not reduce her value in any aspect. Lets hope the best for all and for Carutasu, in case she finds a spot in the finals.

The 25 player wide roster for the world's was announced?

If I am remembering correctly of all the athletes who were wide rostered on the vnl that ended up getting some time for a week, Aycin and Ayse were not listed.

Eda is back. Arelya and Aylin were listed (both were not on the vnl roster)

Sıla and Defne were on the wide roster but were not dressed.

S - Cansu Özbay , Dilay Özdemir, Elif Şahin, Sıla Çalişkan, Arelya Karasoy

OPP - Melissa Vargas, Aleksia Karutasu, Defne Başyolcu, Aylin Uysalcan

OH - Hande Baladın, Ebrar Karakurt, İlkin Aydın, Derya Cebecioğlu, Yaprak Erkek, Saliha Şahin, Meliha Diken

MB - Zehra Güneş, Asli Kalaç, Deniz Uyanık, Berka Buse Özden, Eda Erdem, Sinead Jack-Kısal

L - Gizem Örge, Simge Aköz, Eylül Yatgın

  • If everyone would be healthy, my 14 will be like this:

S - Cansu Özbay, Elif Şahin

OPP - Melissa Vargas, Aleksia Karutasu

OH - Hande Baladın, Ebrar Karakurt, İlkin Aydın, Yaprak Erkek

MB - Zehra Güneş, Asli Kalaç, Deniz Uyanık, Eda Erdem

L - Gizem Örge, Simge Aköz

  • idk what u guys think but honestly I think Berka is going to be better than Asli in the years to come. She's not there yet by any means, but she showed some good moments this vnl. But for Worlds, Asli is a viable M3/4 rn to give players rest. I just dont think she can the main Middle for crunch time.

I like ur list I think that would be a good roster. Due to uncertainty I added some "alternate" player that I think should be in place should a player like Cansu or Elif, One of the MB's, Ilkin or God forbid any of the other OH's not be avaliable.

S - Cansu Özbay, Elif Şahin, Dilay Özdemir

OPP - Melissa Vargas, Aleksia Karutasu

OH - Hande Baladın, Ebrar Karakurt (can be both OH/OPP situational moments), İlkin Aydın, Yaprak Erkek, Saliha Şahin

MB - Zehra Güneş, Asli Kalaç, Deniz Uyanık, Eda Erdem, Berka Buse Özden

L - Gizem Örge, Simge Aköz, Eylül Yatgın

  • Yasemin Güveli was also in the wide roster but not dressed up.

    I liked this...

I am in between Saliha and Derya, defensive and attack...

İlkin and Eda? Still a question mark to me. Hoping both are fully recovered but as I mentioned earlier, the gap of not playing match can be disadvantage for both. In a classic way, let's hope the best...

  • I would take Dilay to worlds, I think she should get as much as NT experience possible so that she would be ready for 2028 LA

  • Im surprised that tutku Burcu yüzgenc didn't get the invite for wide roster, she had a good season in Korea. I think it would be more realistic choice than Aylin who is only 16 although very promising

Agree, if Cansu would be completely healthy

Ik she was on the VNL roster but she did not get time this vnl. I also don't think she was mentioned for the World Roster? Which is a shame I thought she would get time esp since Aycin was a flop.

My concern with Derya is always reception. Ebrar and Yaprak are more obvious choices, and Yaprak managed in reception for the most part, Ebrar did to an extent, but when she mentally shut down, so did her reception quality. Derya's firepower is good but even then she can be inconsistent. I rlly feel like if Ilkin is unavaliable it would be important to have someone who can clean up reception and I think Saliha proved she was better than Meliha for that role. Plus if its the same Saliha that came off the bench to replace Ayse for China im ok w that. That was my logic.

Eda should be a bit more recovered, but she's not exactly "young" so having 3 other healthy MB's is important. Deniz could also be a question mark, how severe was her injury that she couldnt play or was it precautionary rest. Hence why I think Yasemin should have gotten a chance this VNL.

Calling Aycin instead of yasemin was already a dodgy call. Yasemin had obviously a better season than ayçin who didn't even play for most part of the season. Somehow it seems like Santa doesn't favor Yasemin. She is such a good blocker, she could be our carol/kurtagic if she would get more chances in nt and if she didn't get injured

Here, I would like to share a small survey, based on GS MBs. This definitely approve your opinion. Ayçin played 14 match and 49 sets, while Yasemin played 21 match and 78 sets (Timmerman 19 match 66 sets). Yasemin was much better than Ayçin, almost in all areas except serves.

She was way better in 2023/24 season, particularly at the blocks. She was excellent. The problem might be her personality. Last year was shocking for her and not being included in NT seemed to be unfair, therefore she lost her moral motivation. She was deserved to be included. It is possible that, she had some problems with Santa. My observations about her is; from time to time, she is a bit nervous, with a bit of severe personality, on the other hand her smile for one second is enough to take anyone's breath away. Very diverging. Last year while watching GS match, her former coach subbed her and while going out, I could not believe my eyes, when I saw her body language, reacting to his decision.

I still like her, no matter whether she is the part of NT or not.
