    Why didn't Dömeland, Roll and Pachale stay on the German team until the 2004 Athens Games?


    In the case of Pachale, she didn't even play in the 2002 WC, which was held at her home.


    With the three of them, Germany would probably have been champions of the 2003 EC, which would have allowed them to go to the 2003 World Cup, they would have had more points in the ranking and they would have been in Group A, advancing to the quarterfinals in the Olympics.

    Dömeland simply wasn't a very good player. Roll and especially Pachale were constantly plagued with injuries, so they weren't around much in NT after 2000.

    This is the list of players that was submitted to DOSB (German Olympic organisation) on 1 January, these players have the official status as NT players. However that doesn't mean all of them will be invited to NT training nor that there can't be other players who aren't on the list yet, but usually this is a pretty good summary of who is likely to be invited.

    I don't think so. Probably the camp will start some time in late April/early May and some players who are involved in their clubs until the very end of club season might join later, but there won't be such a thing as an early camp I think.

    some nts prepare training for younger players fresh from u squad earlier than the main roster minus the ones playing overseas since some of the more experienced players will take a break

    Münster's press somehow seems to have access to the list of invited NT players and announced that Emilia Jordan, Mia Kirchhoff, Elena Kömmling, Luisa van Clewe and Lara Schaefer have been invited (the URL tells the names). Training will start on 23 April.

    However the full article is paywalled, so I'm not sure if all of them are invited to the main NT or if this includes the U23 selection that will play Universiade. If anyone can access the full article, please enlighten me :)

    NT (apparently a mix of main NT and U23 NT preparing for Universiade) has started training this week. As usual there is no word from DVV yet, but looking at Instagram posts, the following players are there:


    S: Emilia Jordan, Corina Glaab

    OPP: Celine Jebens, Mia Kirchhoff

    OH: Lara Darowski, Elena Kömmling, Svea Naujack, Luisa Keller, Maria Tabacuks (Olesya Kulakova's daughter playing in Volero)

    MB: Marie Schölzel, Monique Strubbe, Anastasia Cekulaev, Luisa van Clewe

    L: Lara-Marie Schaefer

    My first thought also was Tabacuks, AFAIK she is German citizen through her mother but her "federation of origin" (aka her first player license) would be France. Other options could be Melissa Vasi who plays in Mulhouse but is German citizen or maybe Joyce Abgolossou?

    Is this official wide roster updated?

    After reading the FIBV's "Sports Regulations" document, which user ROL posted in the original thread, I also came to the same conclusion.


    I see Maria Tabacuks as the most likely candidate. She makes the most sense, especially with regard to the U19 World Championships. Given that Leana Grozer will most likely miss the event due to other commitments, it would certainly make sense to bring Maria Tabacuks instead of her.


    Joyce Abgolossou could, of course, also be a possibility for the World University Games. But since she didn't participate in the U23 training camp last season and isn't currently on the national team, like many other players of the last year U23 training camp, I would rule her out as a possibility.


    The situation with Mélissa Vasi is likely a little different. Compared to Maria Tabacuks and Joyce Abgolossou, her nationality and federation of origin are likely both German. This would suggest that the French federation would be interested in her and would force her to change the federation. I would rule that out.

    Matthias explained this page above already. In Germany, athletes are financial supported by the DOSB (National Olympic Committee) and the Deutsche Sporthilfe. To determine which athletes are supported, different squads are put together (Olympic, Perspective, and Junior Squad). Your link shows the Perspective Squad. This is the highest squad in women's volleyball, as we haven't been to the Olympics in many years and therefore have no claim to an Olympic squad.


    In most cases, this squad overlaps heavily with the wide roster squad. However, not everyone listed on this page has to be nominated, and others who aren't on the list can also be nominated. This is evident from the fact that the wide roster squad has 30 players, if I'm not mistaken, and only 24 players are listed on the page.
