S. Korea 2025-2026 V. League (Women)

  • Never ending bad luck for AI Peppers... or a blessing in disguise?

Stefanie Weiler, first pick for next season's Asian Quarter player for AI, is now out due to needing an Achilles Heel surgery.

No replacement yet, but it seems they have a chance now to get an MB (which they desperately need). Shimamura is still available, AI! :sos:

  • Here's our list of foreign quota players for season 2025-2026!

    Renewed:

    • GS Caltex - Giselle Silva 🇨🇺
    • IBK - Viktoria Danchak 🇺🇦

    Returning players:

    • Hi-Pass - Laetitia Moma 🇨🇲 (used to be Hyundai)
    • Pink Spiders - Rebecca Latham 🇺🇸(used to be IBK)

    New:

    • AI Peppers - Zoe Weatherington 🇺🇸
    • Hyundai - Kari Geissberger 🇺🇸
    • Red Sparks - Elisa Zanette 🇮🇹

Surprised nobody took Tuktu, nor did the stand out players like Demidova got chosen. But it is what it is. Congrats to the chosen players! :super:

  • I'm surprised Hyundai Hillstate let Moma Bassoko go. :what:

Zanette in Korea doesn't make sense at all. But it is what it is.

Well, I heard there was some discord between Moma and the coach Kang Sung Hyung. I think their coach can't handle Moma's fiery personality lol.

Why doesn't Zanette make sense playing in Korea? I saw clips of her playing and she's quite light, and not exactly explosive but reminds me of Tuktu.

    Thank you for the info.

IMHO Zanette will be a Pascucci bis.

  • Some shocking news ahead of the season: it seems Kim Heejin (known as the only successful opposite player for the Korean NT in Tokyo Olympics) is changing her uniform after more than a decade in IBK (largely considered as the club's franchise star - and the one in my profile picture). She's been spotted at a Hyundai Hillstate event recently despite no announcement from IBK.

She's declined a lot after Tokyo Olympics due to numerous injuries but she remains one of the few successful players with a large fanbase. Kinda surprising she didn't retire at IBK - and she could already given her age. But I guess IBK can't keep her due to her huge salary (if she deserves it is another matter).

  • It seems there are major changes happening at Hyundai. There are also talks that because they are taking in Kim Heejin, they are gonna let go of Hwang Youn Joo (Korea's most successful opposite locally). She's been in Hyundai for 10+ years now, thus a lot of fans are mad about the decision.

Though from what I heard she was offered a coaching position, but she insisted on playing (despite not playing regularly for the team since 2021-2022). I think she should have retired already to give young players a chance (she's older than KYK as well).

Good to see Heejin still playing, no matter which club she's joining. For me she's part of the golden generation which includes Hyojin, Yeonkuong and others. Now one by one they are retiring :(

  • Yeum Orkhon is let go from AI Peppers ahead of the 2025-2026 season. She was the first pick during her rookie season.

Unfortunately, despite being a tall player, she is constantly injured (she's had knee surgeries since her debut for 3 seasons already), thus her club has not maximized her.

  • Just saw it today, but it seems there is gonna be a competition amongst club players called "Futures Champ" where some clubs will participate, together with other non-pro clubs (Daegu and Pohang). Here's the latest schedule I saw:

Hope this opens up playing opportunities for young players! Also, they should use this competition as a test for a B-League.

EDIT: Saw another post by Hyundai:

It seems most non-pro clubs will play with the pro-clubs. :)

  • New rules to be implemented in the 2027 -2028 season!

After 10 years of the tryout system in the V-League, the foreign and Asian quarter player recruitment will be changed to a free contract system. This will allow for a better negotiation of players and would also allow them to get bigger player pool. We may even see bigger names in the league (NT players from big countries, for instance).

EDIT: Just read the report, they will implement this rule for the Asian quarter players this 2026-2027 season, but will probably take effect for replacement players in the meantime, given there are already Asian quarter players selected for the season.

  • Won't be surprised if the female's gets theirs reduced in a year or two as well

It's way too inflated currently - of course the men's are worse considering lower viewership & the salary cap being higher than the female's

I hope not. I know it's inflated for some players, but across the board, some players do deserve better payment. It's the distribution of salary that is the problem, especially for the women's league. I still think the salary for the foreign players, just like in the Asian quarter players, should be equal. I don't get why foreign players on the women's side only get 300k usd while the mens get 500k usd.

The fact that viewership, attendance, and national performance (previously) are higher on the women's side should be a good indicator that they should be paid more (not that it validates their inflated salary, but still).

  • I remember we talked about Minji one time, but I've forgotten regarding what :aww:

I got the impression she's a player you liked ?
