Italy - Serie A1 2025/26

  • She probably is but but Novara already beat Conegliano during the Courmayeur Cup which was technically a test match but it should still count with the 5000 PR ads they ran just for that

On the other hand, Gabi is in terrible shape right now. No one knows if it's a problem with her thighs, knees or something else...

I think it's actually Egonu who made it work rather than "Bosio Magic" since there's more of her choking than actual consistency so far

It's kinda crazy how LVF spent more time promoting Courmayeur than Supercoppa lol and the budget looks like its a lot bigger too considering it was a pre-season semi-vacay showdown

  • isnt it kinda ironic that at the height of italian volleyball conegliano's main stars aren't italian well i mean yes fahr and ofc moki but they're already veterans. they've failed to launch any new talent

maybe sillah but again not italian

  • Milano's momentous win against Conegliano surely stole the show from the championship round, but plenty of things happened this Sunday.

Let's start from the tenacious performance by Bergamo against Novara. The hosts lost the first set, then bounced back showing some great defence and converting many break points. Back to the wall and down 2-1, the visitors fought fire with fire to avoid the loss and came back home with another win. I have the feeling Eze won the head-to-head against Cambi, but the latter surely had an hard time in finding solutions with the pins. At one point Novara had to run all its laterals with Herbots on the right side, but the Belgian responded well and supported a very consistent Alsmeier. On the other side of the net, Kipp is getting quite close to the best shape and had a very solid afternoon, sharing the load with Cesé, less effective than usual. Though, it must be said that the whole OH unit was quite mistake-prone.

Fun and entertaining battle between Chieri and Busto Arsizio, especially in the first set. The sweep may be a bit severe to the visitors, but Boldini's injury allowed Seki to show from the very first rally she's able to run a game quite similar to the one Sarah van Aalen is doing in Chieri. Unfortunately, the combinations with Van Avermaet weren't enough, because Obossa didn't have a great day, Parra faded away as the sets went on and Battista didn't give the spark off the bench. Balanced and well-rounded game for the hosts, barely showing any kind of slag from the last match. The distribution was evened and the attackers were effective, Negro basically hadn't to make subs because even in block, defence and passing everything worked just fine.

I don't know how much this is because I clearly misjudged Cuneo and its real potential rather than Monviso struggling more than expected, but who would've thought of seeing Salvagni's team in second place after four rounds where they faced teams like Conegliano and Scandicci? I must say Diop is doing much better than estimated, the Americans are looking like a smart purchase, but the whole team is working well on both sides of the net.

Way too many problems for Monviso, to the point it's even hard to list them all. Apart from the struggling in transition and with block-defence correlation, the problem with the OH unit is becoming more and more concerning. I get there are no phenomenons off the bench, but Marchiaro should try to change a bit more frequently. Feeding as much as possible a player like Malual, who does have to be in system to be reliable, is making the situation even more troublesome too. I won't charge that on Bridi, but today she showed some limits in the way she set the attackers.

I knew Scandicci wouldn't have shrugged off that easily the beating they suffered against Cuneo, and it showed today in the derby. Firenze knew they were the clear underdogs on paper and played quite relaxed, rallying around Knollema. They took full advantage of the complete mess Scandicci made in the second and third set, they didn't close it out but clearly they moved on from the absymal debut agaist Chieri. I don't know if Sentenza_69 will agree with me, but Malešević is getting better and more involved in the attacks, while Bukilić is still looking a bit of a sitting duck. Signs of recovering a decent form from Villani too. Scandicci managed to work it out in the fading phases of the match, when normalizer Bechis relieved Ognjenović (quite off today) and managed to do simple yet effective things, which helped everybody to get out of the hole. This is a closer version of the Skinner almost everybody expects to see, while among the of the few positives I would mention Weitzel (who's embracing her role quite well) and Graziani's entry.

An easy win it's probably what Vallefoglia most needed right now, for the boost in confidence as well as for finding more technical certainties. For a couple of sets San Giovanni in Marignano battled with the blunt weapons they have, but on the long run the hosts had it easy in overcoming the scarce resistance they met. I don't think having Panetoni would've made a big difference, but her absence is surely adding a problem to other bigger problems. With this in mind, performances and stats from the ones more under the radar for Vallefoglia - Bartolucci and Omoruyi - have to be taken cum grano salis.

I was ready to write about yet another blown 0-2 lead from Macerata, but for once the Marchigians were able to survive their own shortcomings and finally put three points in the bag. What a nice day from the diagonal, because Bonelli was everywhere on defence without losing much quality on setting and Decortes was a thorn in the flesh for Perugia for most of the game. Not a bad effort from Kokkonen too.

Perugia payed dearly way too many ups and down in the way they tackled the match and Gardini as the lone reliable option of attack. I've seen a lot of confusion in passing situations, which canceled the already minimal game in the middle (Ricci-Mazzarro isn't a thing at all at the moment), but I wasn't convinced by their block-defence too. Macerata was able to recycle way too many balls compared to them and overall looked better positioned and more willing on digging.
