Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2025/26

  • Toni Stautz definitely doesn't like Waibl a lot. ;)

The fact that she's the one complaining about Waibl's complaints during the game is almost funny.

I also saw this yesterday and honestly I was shocked to read a pro player and a team captain telling such a thing to the press :wall:

Waibl certainly does complain at times, but not more or less than other coaches IMO. What Stautz is refering to is his complaints about Shaffmaster's setter dumps which were quite thrown most of the time, and in 4th set the referee finally called one as carry. However this wasn't at a decisive moment, so saying that "the referee decided to take the outcome of the match into his own hands because he was scared of Waibl" is by far the dumbest thing I've read in a while :aww: They only have themselves to blame, and I never liked Stuttgart for several reasons but having such a "captain" is yet another reason for me to hope Dresden will send them home 3:0 in 55 minutes today :hit:

  • OMG what a comeback by Suhl from 21:24 to 26:24 :white: and that overpass from Reesink on a lollipop serve :aww:

Also I wonder what the hell Koslowski was thinking to enter Grozer for Hölzig at the end of the set :white:

Koslowski actually explained the substitution in the today pre-match interview. Anna Holzig had an abdominal muscle injury and therefore couldn't generate enough attacking pressure. Since she was a front-row player at that time, he made the substitution to increase the team's attacking power.

He should have told Kohn to actually set Grozer then instead of sending ball after ball to Stuut :gone:

  • And the final of sensations is complete :white::super:

    Schwerin - Suhl 0:3 stats

MVP: Marije ten Brinke / Kenzie Foley

    Dresden - Stuttgart 3:2 stats

MVP: Marta Levinska / Eleanor Holthaus

Stuttgart has the better bench but in the semifinal series the key players have been Winter, Entius and all of a sudden Teresa Ziegenbalg for Dresden :white:

Schwerin as defending champion not reaching the final with the roster they have surely is a disappointment, but Dresden beating Stuttgart is the much bigger upset IMO. I guess before the season nobody expected Suhl to reach the final but their transfers all were on point :super:

  • As discussed Dresden was clearly better in the heads in the playoffs as Stuttgart, without that notable advantage they would have had no chance in the semis.

  • The spots for European Cups also are known after today's matches:

Dresden & Suhl -> Champions League

Stuttgart & Schwerin -> CEV Cup

    Münster -> Challenge Cup

I wonder if Suhl will use their spot for CL, it's very expensive after all and they're not a rich club :| As Cup winner they would also be qualified for CEV Cup so maybe they play there instead and Stuttgart gets to play CL after all, but I guess such things will be discussed after the end of the season.

  • The height of the ceiling wasn’t the only problem. The free space around the court is very limited - especially on the side of the second referee/scorer table. Moving to Coburg would be an option if there is enough money in the budget to play CL in the first place

  • I think people in Schwerin are glad the season is over. Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard on several occasions that there was a real lack of harmony within the team. Vedrana Jaksetic, in particular, had a tough time against the Germany/Netherlands squad. But Anna Artyshuk also seemed to be rejected by some of the other players. That might explain the poor performances. Team spirit has always been a hallmark of Schwerin in recent years; players like Meg Wolowicz always made an effort to bring everyone together. That clearly didn’t happen at all this year.

The Schwerin daily newspaper reported this week that Jet Kok and Suus Gerritsen will continue to play for Schwerin next year. I’ve also heard a few rumors that there might be a change at the libero position next season.

According to Volleybox, all of Schwerin's Dutch players except Stuut are under contract with them for next season. Not sure how reliable this is though.

Jaksetic and Artyshuk have been very disappointing throughout the season, especially considering how well Artyshuk did in Suhl before. In general I think Koslowski is a good coach, but it might not be good to mix club duties and NT duties as much as he did this season with bringing so many Dutch players to Schwerin.

I wonder if Luisa van Clewe regrets going to Schwerin, she got very little court time and I don't see her being in the mix for NT anymore with many other young MB talents shining this season in the league. Also Leana Grozer has been disappointing IMO, sure she had a lot of health issues but she didn't nearly have as much impact as last season.

I also think that putting the team together this way wasn't a good idea. As I said, I'm not sure if Reesink will stay. There will be a fan festival on Monday. The players who are leaving the club will certainly be announced there.

  • Who is Ziegenbalg? I don't remember her on court this season (or maybe very few times till yesterday). Is Akimoto injured?

Ziegenbalg is a young player from Dresdens youth team. She entered in 2nd set and almost played til the end. She hardly played before in other matches.

Akimoto has problem with her back. Don't know if it's an injury.

  • Stuttgart would only get into CL qualification as not directly eligible team and I doubt, that they would accept that at all. They got that offer even in this (now) past season and didn't make use of it.

Suhls hall is also somewhat questionable for the CL IMHO and their alternatives are rather limited.

  • 6 players leaving Stuttgart:

Stautz: ‘The likelihood of me going to Suhl is very, very slim.’

Varela: To southern Europe (TR or IT)

    Schaffmaster: Olympiakos Piräus

    Mogensen: CSO Voluntari

    De Paula: Likely to Fluminense

Martin: She had a lucrative offer last year but Stuttgart did not release her so according to Stuttgarter Zeitung everyone knew since then that it would be her last season in Stuttgart.

Everyone else will stay according to the paper.

They want to give their talents a chance next season:

Slacanin will be one of four OHs next season.

Jerkovic will be second setter after Kästner.

  • Another article says their budget won't grow anymore due to economic crisis so they have to rely more on young players, but still they will transfer 4 new players. Any rumors who will come? They'll need an OPP, 2 OHs and an MB (I guess Steinhilber will be 4th MB if she stays).
