Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2025/26

  • What if Suhl wins the league? Their coach is such an icon. Kinda new Karpol for different reasons.

Uhm, then they are champion? :/

Hollosy may act weird at times, but he has done a great job since he took over Suhl and gradually turned them into a top team. Also players seem to like him because many of them have stayed there for multiple years.

  • The TV schedule for the final series sucks big time  Right now only the 4th match is scheduled on free TV, so if the series ends in 3 matches we don't get anything for free. And worst of all, Sport1 in theory could show the 2nd match because there's a spot of two free hours in the darts tournament from 17:00-19:00 but they have schedulded "Analysis and Countdown" for darts in that time :wall:

    2 hours Darts-Analysis?! WTF.

I'm kinda hoping for MDR to maybe broadcast a bit, since it's "middle-german" final. I just don't know if it's possible and if they have the rights to do so.

I thought it was just a dummy in their schedule to be eventually replaced by the volleyball match, but Dresden scheduled it for 19:00 after all :aww::gone: I wonder if Margon Arena might not be available earlier that day because Dresden's home matches usually start at 17:30 or 18:00 on Saturdays :/

  • Lilly Bietau from Wiesbaden to Nawaro Straubing in 2nd league in order to get more playing time :| IMO she could/should have gone to one of the weaker 1st league teams, she made a good impression when she replaced Sain for a few weeks.

Marika Loker stays in Borken for next season. I was hoping to see her in a better team, she has a lot of potential and I doubt that Kira Walkenhorst can help her reach the next level...

Coaching by Kira Walkenhorst (olympic champion in Rio 2016 with Laura Ludwig) will be interesting anyway, because she is among the worst losers in sports you can imagine.

  • Another article says their budget won't grow anymore due to economic crisis so they have to rely more on young players, but still they will transfer 4 new players. Any rumors who will come? They'll need an OPP, 2 OHs and an MB (I guess Steinhilber will be 4th MB if she stays).

That's a general issue for the league: with LOVB in USA paying really high salaries for a short season and the usual drain of the best to Italy and Turkey the clubs had to increase their budgets considerably to stay competitive in Europe (i.e. maintain a CL quarterfinal chance), but they can't, in reality they are happy if they not go down regarding money.

  • Yes. Of the 14 players on this season’s roster, 7 are leaving the club.

The following players will remain in Schwerin: Anne Hölzig, Hannah Kohn, Finnja Frommann, Mia Kirchhoff, Suus Gerritsen, Jet Kok, and Marije ten Brinke.

Leaving players are: Anna Artyshuk, Leana Grozer (Italy), Britte Stuut, Vedrana Jakšetić, Luisa Van Clewe, Iris Vos and Florien Reesink.

Koslowski is quoted as saying that consistency in performance was lacking this season.

It is not yet clear whether the club will play in the CEV Cup or the Champions League, according to reports.

  • I think the seven players who are staying are a solid foundation. I consider ten Brinke and Gerritsen a strong starting middle blocker duo. I hope they sign a good libera. That will be key to taking some of the pressure off Kok in reception. There are a few rumors in Schwerin that Patricia Llabres is coming back, but I don’t know if it's true or just wishful thinking.

  • I could imagine Celine Jebens in Suhl? If Brancuska leaves.

That would be a major downgrade IMO. Overall Jebens played a good season but right now I think she's not ready yet to be starter in a top 4 team. It would go the same way like Kirchhoff being starter in Schwerin, not terrible but simply not good enough either.

  • The chance for Schwerin playing CL next season is rather remote, I think: if Dresden (for sure) and Suhl (questionable IMHO) both accept the direct CL qualification, at most Stuttgart will be asked to participate in CL qualification. And to be honest: Schwerin was so weak this season, playing CL would be totally undeserved.

  • Thank you!!

Let's see where these players will end up. And which other Dutch players will come to Schwerin. 😉

I am already dreading him bringing SV Dynamo duo of Strikwerda * Jelsma (S+OPP) to the Schweriner bench :sos: instead I hope these talents decide to go to a team where they can play a lot and gain experience. Glad to see Vos leaving and hope she makes the same kind of decision! She could be more useful in other teams

  • The height of the ceiling wasn’t the only problem. The free space around the court is very limited - especially on the side of the second referee/scorer table. Moving to Coburg would be an option if there is enough money in the budget to play CL in the first place

Since Suhl was able to play in the CEV Cup, the free space shouldn't be a problem. According to the CEV regulations, the same dimensions apply in the CEV Cup as in the Champions League: 35 x 23 meters. Perhaps Suhl uses a slightly different setup in European competitions than they do in the Bundesliga.

The real problems, however, are the lighting intensity and the spectator capacity. The former should certainly be fixable. For the latter, they would have to rely more on the CEV's leniency, since this would be their first time participating in the Champions League.

I don't know if this could be a factor. But the Dresden Titans are playing their playoff game in the arena the day before. Perhaps that's why the setup can be done later, which would then push the time back.
