Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2025/26

  • Suhl definitely deserves this title. What a season, what a development in the last years!

Still I believe that Dresden has the possibilities to win against Suhl, if they manage to get fit until Wednesday. So sad that they are currently physically not able to show what they can do.

  • Suhl signed two completely unknown OHs for this season and the risk totally paid off because both of them have done an amazing job. Most of all Foley of course, but Dotson's contribution must be praised as well. And Sambale's story is like a fairytale, from being a 2nd league player actively applying to Suhl for the role of 2nd libero to being the league's best receiving libero within only two seasons :obey:

They have a very good tradition at finding unknown or less popular players as far as I remember. And taking a look here I can say they found a lot of players that later played for bigger teams in Germany...

They sure did, but I wonder how this will go now that Suhl is also a big team. Assuming Foley to Dresden is true might be a "downgrade" for Foley if Suhl ends up being champion and Dresden 2nd :| Despite Suhl's great success this season it's still a question mark if they can repeat it next season because probably they'll have to discover some new players once again. Brancuska signed for two years but Busto buying her out if the contract is not unlikely IMO.

  • An additional piece of information: It has been teased several times during both women's and men's games on Dyn that the professional challenge will be introduced in every game next season. Today, during the men's game between Friedrichshafen and Berlin, experienced referee Joachim Mattner also confirmed this.

This would finally bring German league on the same referee level as Italy, Turkey, Russia and Poland have for several to many years now and is definitely a notableprogress.

Suhl is trying to win the championship with too few suitable players (they are altogether just 8 to 9, the starting six, with two liberas and Naujack). This can't work usually, for example Suhl would have faced big trouble (physically and with reduced home matches) in the finals against Stuttgart with its much broader roster, so everything works ideally for Suhl this season, which is more kind of an exception.

  • During the last matches of Suhl I noticed a woman sitting behind the court together with Suhl's scout also wearing Suhl clothes, and Kenzie Foley's Insta story now identified her as USA MB Madeline Whittington. According to Volleybox she played in Israel this season, so I wonder if she's in Suhl only so that they have a 3rd MB in training or if they'll sign her for next season :/

  • This woman certainly doesn't seem to have had a "straightforward" volleyball career path. After playing her first three years in NCAA volleyball for Illinois, she then played a season of beach volleyball for LSU (without appearing in an official match). And in the season before her stint in Israel, she probably didn't play any volleyball at all. Definitely an interesting history.

  • An interesting decision and especially an interesting timing for the announcement. Jakub Brečka is currently still playing in the league with Linz, albeit only in the third-place games. As league leaders, they surprisingly failed to advance from the playoff semifinals. Furthermore, I have no idea what ETV researched. But he are not Austrian champion. Neither this year nor last year.

It remains to be seen whether we'll also see Lucia Herdová in Hamburg or with another German Bundesliga team.
